Rome VS Medieval II

Please look around the first few pages before creating a thread, we already have one (at least).

There is nothing wrong with necroing, as long as you have something to add to the discussion! Something this thread lacks.

Oh gosh, seeing my old post proclaiming that Empire: Total War was going to out-do both Rome and Medieval II makes me ashamed of my prediction abilities.

Not entirely true. MTW2 has Broken Crescent. The awsomest mod I have ever played.

Third Age Total war for M2 is the most fun I've had playing a Total War game.

No Total War mod beats Europa Barbarorum.
I never really got into EB. There was simply too much there, especialy with regards to the buildings and some other stuff.

Meh, it's not very difficult to manage after your first successful campaign, and there's so much else to recommend it that I wasn't put off by the issue of having more stuff to mess around with

Meh. If I'm going to play an RTW mod, it will be Fourth Age. I havent found anymod awsomer than that for RTW.

I never really got into EB. There was simply too much there, especially with regards to the buildings and some other stuff.

I was a bit overwhelmed at first (especially the excessively detailed installation guide, it wasn't nearly as difficult as it looked) but now I crave going back to it.. I just don't feel like I have the time to really play it right now. Same with Stainless Steel for M2, I also don't feel like reinstalling.

What about Mundus Magnus? I think that is okay if you want a better map and stuff, but without alot of added features.

Broken Crescent for MTW2 still takes top place for me. 4th Age for RTW:Bi ranks just a little bit below BC.

EB is the best by miles. In addition with Alexander expansion AI & engine stability its the real dream mod. Althought new Roma surrectum 2 is awesome. MTW.2 never realy catched me...I liked the graphic but that was all...recently seen EB2 preview of Rome..unbelievable. Cant wait!

Depends on what time period interests you. I get get bored of MTW, because I don't care about that time. BTW: I play moddless.

The battles in M2:TW are so awesome, if a little chaotic and hard to control. It's too bad the 'map' part of the game is lacking. If you could basically take the Civilization style map and empire management and combine it with the combat found in Total War, you'd have a perfect game.

I dont see too much different in feel between the strategy map aspects of the two vanilla games, but the battles are different in character and I prefer the Rome ones, they just feel more important, or more epic.

Difficult to put my finger on it or explain it exactly, but they both did a good job of making me feel like i was in the right place during the battles. Both awesome games. I just perfer the epicness of Rome.

It could simply be that I love both games equally but I prefer roman history to medieval history.

And I simply cannot wait for RTW2 - my anticipation of it is greater than it was for MTW2.

It may be me, but I felt that the Rome battle maps were larger then the MTW2 ones. In MTW2 I often feel like I end up at the edges of the map.
