RR14 - Wa shaa Allah

10 turns played. No issues other than freakin' Monty beating me to the Internet by 1 turn. I did not expect that. Here is a summary. Not many pics.

1) We own all religions and shrines. I took a few Chinese cities. He has 2 left on the mainland with our troops knocking on the door. Everything is slow going. I lose multiple spies per turn in his cities but was still able to revolt and then pound with air strikes. I've amass some ships and troops near Khmer to start hitting Qin's island holdings. Of course, we have plenty of troops to pick up off mainland China. Qin has Mechs but we have Modern Armor, which rock quite nicely.

2) Monty broke away from Qin a few turns in and I immediately took peace just to avoid harassment. Monty has built Apollo so that is a concern, and built a part, but he has many techs to go and he won't get free ones anymore from Qin - other than the fact that he has the Internet. (Actually, we may want to consider tech choice such that we don't have 2 civs with the same tech that Monty does not have. After Robotics, we really don't need anything else anyway)

3) Izzy went down easily, of course, a coupla turns in. I razed those cities which BK quickly resettled.

4) Lizzy is a tad bit more trouble. We really did not have the troops initially to launch an assault other than the wounded troops from the Spanish war. I've been slow flying troops in. I took 1 English city on the coast. I decided to keep this one as well so that we have more landing pads, but we definitely want to raze everything from this point in SA. The raze city event is a PITA though that's for sure. BK will resettle but we will take him soon.

5) We keep popping GEs and GPs. At this point we might as well just settle them or burn a GE on West Point. We could settle the rest in Mecca which still sorely needs hammers.

6) One of Qin's shrine cities had TGD, so all the eurasian cities are powered up nicely now.

7) I don't fully understand the mechanic behind gifting cities, i.e., when you can. I'd like to gift Chinese cities to GK or Sury but something needs to happen first. I was not able to gift Nanjing to GK initially but now he owns it. Hopefully we can gift the southern chinese cities to Sury. I guess we could raze one of the coastal cities, but it might be nice to keep one for a port, although we can just use existing Khmer cities.

8) Note that Coventry (around Zimbabwe) revolted to Mansa once. I threw some troops in there so it should not revolt again. I would not mind just gifting him the city, but it won't give me the option currently, which I find just odd.

9) Flipped Mansa twice into OR. Lost a few spies. We need more down there. Honestly, we don't need to bother flipping him again until the last few turns of the game.

10) We have a navy in Ireland, Portugal, and Paris and I've started the process of building up an invasion force there to start hitting Eastern North America. Probably should just quickly wipe out France and Rag. We are at a point now in which we can quickly amass an army over there. Other than very new cities, there's little infra to build in established cities.

11) We can build up a little force in South Africa to take Madagascar from BK once we take him, and then use it to start picking off islands.

12) Qin is all over the place. China will still take some time to remove from the game and we need to focus on Monty fairly soon.

13) Once we remove China from the mainland, we may have enough troops over there to split and hit Wang or Toku. We will need some more ships though.

14) I took out quite a bit of Qin's navy but he still has a lot of ships around.

15) Note that Sury took one of Qin's cities in what I think is Malaysia. We can rebase some air units there and fly in troops to help take those islands.

Sounds like good progress.
It also sounds like the time to play is getting even worse for play time than my last set. Fronts sound even more confusing not that island hoping has to hit...

Yes, looks good but sounds daunting... I won't have much time during the week and will be away next weekend, so if LK feels like it I'm happy to swap. Otherwise I might be able to squeeze out a few turns during the week and hand over. And to be frank, I wouldn't mind either calling this a win and getting on with RR15. The task ahead in RR14 is still enormous but I think the win is beyond doubt. Personally I'd get more enjoyment out of a new game. But maybe that's just me. :)

I'm in no rush to see it - try and get what you can done and I will pick it up later in the week.

I agree - RR13 was a question mark to near the end. With China busted, I don't see a real threat left.
Japan, Korea, Euro remnants, should all go easily. It is just a question of real life time. It has become a major challenge with all the fronts to deal with.

Well, nocho, the game is not that won :D There is still a lot of cleanup to do and we do not have a unlimited ammount of turns to do so ... OFC that China was the only serious contender up, but again we still have to make sure that we can fulfill our variant ( that is, to win and to get all the alive civs running Islam ) in due time. We still have the whole set of SS techs to get, just to get started ...

On the set, good progress, lymond. China is all but gassed out. Maybe it is time to think on cleaning up Asia by killing WK and Toku while preparing a decent fleet to the island hopping stuff in the Pacific ... S. America needs more troops, though ... like you say, what we have there might not be enough for the task in hands.

Bwagh, killing and razing everything alive right now and keeping our vassals in the fold would work, right?

Why do we need SS techs?

Sorry, but no turns from me until next week. This is a bit too time consuming for my agenda right now. 1 turn likely takes as long as the entire set I just played in Apocalypto. :p If LK wants to jump in, that'd be fine with me. If not, have patience. :)

I don't want to see this one again, but got it.
This game is just to much...

1940 AD
Back into the grind - we are through the biggest threats with Russia dead and China crippled. However, we still have WAY too much to do and not enough time. 43% land isn't a domination threat yet, but I really don't want more cities unless very strategic.
I switch EP to Korea. The one city I see looks easy, so we may be able to go mass raze after we get rid of the last of China's main land cities.
Some of our worker actions seem really odd. I click alt-backspace to get back all worker control. We don't need ice forts, and other odd builds.
We need to eliminate the remnants of the European civs. Motherland misery is the big issue in a lot of our cities that are tight on happiness.

(IT) We have more problems I didn't know about. Sury just complete space parts!

1941 AD
I switch Salamanca to airport to rush it next turn. We have no easy way to reinforce South America.

I raze Lin'An. I found nothing of worth in the city.

This game is a monster, so getting a decent number of turns in will take days.

We should make sure Sury techs non-space techs and we should be fine.

Curious - I don't play into late eras much. Do airports in destination cities allow you to fly in more than one unit per turn?

Yes

1942 AD
I razed Guangzhou and China is kicked from the mainland. Our troops need something new to do, so I declare on Korea.
I raze Tianjin, and China's island holdings start to shrink.

1943 AD
Gunships vs. Hwacha - does this war seem a bit lopsided?

I declare on Japan to begin softening up is cities.

I begin to assault Hurrian. England has packed a lot of troops into this city, so it will take a bit.

1944 AD
Screw it - time for a complete world war. I declare war on HRE.

Hurrian is razed.
We capture New Castle and now control the Falkland Islands.

The paratroopers raze Pyongyang. The bad part of the razing is we have the stupid partisan event.
We capture Seoul, as that will be the base to parachute into Japan.
Wonsan is razed.

It was a bloodbath, but Macau is razed. Scratch another one of those annoying island cities. This one was really tough, with no access except by sea. Mech inf defending a city on a hill.
(IT) At this point I don't want nukes in the game. I don't think we need them. I vote yes to a nuke free world.

yay! no to nukes!

sounds like you are making good progress

1945 AD
Our paratroops begin to land in Japan.

Ningbo burns to the ground. One of the two Chinese cities in Australia is toasted.
(IT) HRE shows up with a large stack by Chichen Itza.
The world is nuke free. :)

1946 AD
Mainz (HRE) is razed in South America.
Tainan is razed, and China is kicked out of Australia. I can now start sending our air forces to the Americas to help that front.
Liverpool and Hastings are razed.
(IT) I pick Stealth as the next tech. Better air units help and we are not speeding up the space race.

1947 AD
Pusan is razed. I notice the Korea has lost Cheju to Khmer.

I am starting to send our workers toward Baghdad to go to sleep. It is getting to the point that I see no good worker actions.

I raze Prague and Madagascar is free of enemy cities.

1948 AD
Augsburg (HRE) is razed in South America.

Namp'o is razed.

Hakata is razed. This took a bit due to collecting up all the paratroopers, and not a lot of nearby airbases.

Summary:
Being stuck with a vassal building space parts is a headache. Not to mention too much to do in too few turns.

The world war is crazy, but our limit right now isn't troops - it is marching time. I'm trying to have troops marching in multiple directions at once.

Plans forward:
Japan - slow grind with the paratroopers. Japan isn't a real threat, and I don't want to waste transports to get troops there. New forts are being built by Seoul for additional air support. I never realized that forts have to be inside your borders to use them. I can't figure out why else I can't rebase my plans to the completed fort.

Korea - I have some troops fighting them, but all new troops are going to the Americas. Korea is the only target that our vassals can fight. They are so backwards that I hope our vassals will take some cities from them.
England has 4 cities, all in South America. Sweep them away, and move all troops north.

HRE - clean out South America first.

Inca - Once South America is clear, our HRE and English troops can wipe them out.

North America will be the headache. I've been pouring troops into Chichen to capture HRE cities to give us a base to fight Monty, the last serious threat.
China is a slow grind of landing our islands. Our transport fleet is moving towards Tasmania / New Zealand right now. Once those two are free, we can pick reinforcements via our troops healing in Australia. From there we need to simply keep hopping the islands. Stupid fleet just split in 2. Watch this when moving next turn.

Stray units without an airbase are heading toward Spain to join a transport fleet heading there. These strays should hopefully let us get the Caribbean Islands. Leave the transport fleet there at least a couple of extra turns past arrival. The go to orders will have the ships arrive before the troops.

The iron works city of Baghdad has space elevators followed by Apollo program queue. We may as well hedge our bets on how to win. One less city building troops won't matter much at this point.

Got it, will try to play some turns over the next few days. And pound some heads and keep our vassals from winning the game.

I'm kinda afraid we'll hit domination. Of course we'll raze everything, but I think our vassals might settle the empty spaces and get us over the threshold. Should we maybe clear out the Americas first and then continue the Asian business (China, Korea, Japan)?
