RSG 02 (Deity) - The Randomness Continues

Surprise! [party] Just like that, the green dot plan is a no-go.

We get a settler next turn, I say we send him east where he is the least likely to find company. Pink dot has my vote for #2. For #3, the hill NE of that mountain is sure to anger Attila: I like it too :D

There is also the option of building no settler whatsoever, making pure archers and upgrading them ASAP to composites around turn 50-55. We could control the court by 70. This is a 2-city plan: do or die. With the kind of army it would generate, and given how early we would get another capital, this could lead to conquering another neighbor right after.

I feel good about our chances since Attila's Court is on utterly indefensible terrain from the NE: we could sneak our bows around N, conquer Kamakuro (pending a decision to keep it or raze it) and roll through the court. There is tons of desert down there: it'd be a shame if we had those lands with desert folklore active :mischief:

Agree that green dot is a no go, but pink dot is a smart move. I'm thinking that we need some archers as soon as possible. Do we have that tech? I hope so.

I like the move toward comp bows.

I have some term papers I need to grade tonight, but I can play tomorrow night.

I googled Kamakuro and I can't find that city. I have been to Kamakura, Japan though. Does that mean that Oda Nobunaga is in this game?

Kamakura is city number 33 on the Japanese city list so yes, they're in the game too. Let's hope not too close.

Sending our upcoming Settler east sounds smart to me, because we don't have the military power to upset Attila just yet. A war is probably inevitable though given how close he is.

I like the compbow plan on taking him out. That way we not only get rid of a warmonger - if successful - but we also get rid of a possible religion with a holy city almost right next to us (since they were so early with their pantheon). We most likely are going to want to found our own given our good luck with faith.

(I am known to be a sucker for the religion 'mini-game' that Civ5 pretty much provides you with. Don't let me drag us too deep into it. :D)

That mini-game always seemed tedious to me. I liked Marbozir's approach to religion though: Tithe (the :c5gold: is now better than the :c5happy: from CB imo), pagodas, mosques and religious texts. Leave it there, grow your :c5faith: with buildings that also boost :c5culture: and :c5happy:, use it to buy great people later down the road.

If Casimir is a big bad bully, do you think we can foment a conflict between him and Attila? It would be most unfortunate if they were to weaken each other's armies...

Don't you think that our capital will be surrounded if we won't claim S-SW city first? I suggest to start this city, build some defense army and then go for coastal (pink) point.

We have to find more people around Attila to make them fight too. Some friends would be nice:)

Where to settle our second city is a critical decision, especially with Attila so close. Let's talk about this. I really like opposing views as they tend to force a team into the best decisions.

My vote is to play a very simple, if forceful, archer opening: settle only the free city (pink), drown ourselves in archers, upgrade a bunch to CB, move North, declare war.

Anything bigger and we have more fronts to worry about. Anything longer and we give Attila more time to blanket the desert with HA's and rams. We'll need a bunch of spears to handle his UUs, too, but that can wait after we have built tons of ranged units to snipe him with.

Getting 1-2 AI wars going would help to alleviate that ticking clock but I don't like our geographical options, given where the Court is. IMO only 1 city is really safe, and we have better targets for conquest than for settling.

While we are deciding the second city location, what should the builds be? I'm thinking archers, and more archers.

More help for the old guy. I downloaded the mod from CFC - Events and Decisions.7z

How do I install it?

EDIT:Never mind. I hacked it open with a win zip exe program.

It sounds like Beorn and Gurra say send the settler to pink dot. Menelann says send it S-SW spot. I'm leaning towards pink dot, but let me open the save and examine it closer.

Let's look at how we may defend ourselves. Here is "The Gap" to our southwest:

With four ranged units on the red Xs we could control the gap fairly well, especially since Attila's units would have to cross the river.

I think this is what everyone has been talking about for an attack plan:

We would need four ranged units, preferably comp bows and one melee unit to take the city.

Preflight – Turn 30 – 2800 BC – Of course we are last in all categories. Casmir is first in soldiers. We’re researching masonry so we can bring the marble on line. We don’t have archery yet. That will have to be next in line. We’ll have to send the settler out unprotected.

IBT – Our warrior to the south take a shot from a barb archer and is red lined
Turn 31 – 2760 BC – Here is our poor warrior.

Warrior_zpshqyvyyv9.jpg

Move him to the forest to the NW. Use the social policy to get a settler and start moving him toward pink dot.

IBT – Somebody enters the classical era.

Turn 32 – 2720 BC – Worker is on line. Move him to work the hill for one turn. Settler moving east, scout moving west. Warrior heals.

Dial up a warrior for some defense.

Turn 34 – 2640 BC – Masonry=> archer
Start working on marble.

IBT – The Inca found Catholicism.
Turn 35 – 2600 BC –
IBT – Someone completes the Great Library.
Turn 36 – 2560 BC – Found Porto on pink dot. Start working on a monument, but I’ll switch that over to an archer in three turns.
Turn 37 – 2520 BC
IBT – Poland gets a pantheon. Attila enters the classical era.
Turn 38 – 2480 BC – warrior => warrior (I’ll switch that over to an archer in a moment)
IBT – Both the pyramids and Artimis complete. Two Hun warriors come to the edge of our lands.
Turn 39 – 2440 BC – Pop a goody hut for 75G
Archery => Wheel
Switch over both cities to archers.
Turn 40 – 2400 BC – Marble comes online. The Huns have moved off.

Post-flight – We’re presently at zero happies and zero cash flow. Here is the area east of the capital:

If we settle SW, say on the last X by the stone, we get to fight a defensive war with Attila. That has its advantages.

Biggest downside: we may not get to pick when the war starts. It will cement the composite bows agenda. We'll have to use our first built city's early turns on walls. Once we have defended, we probably will be better off taking the north path of attack anyways since the terrain is against us in the NW\SE axis.

Upside: hill city, good spot with abundant resources and 2 readily available luxes, much better spot immediately than pink. It makes the war easier to handle without going halway across the map through hills and rivers - yet. Fast healing means fast counter-attacks.

Well, I just convinced myself: settle the last X now, commit to composite bows, build 5-6 archers in a row @ Lisbon.

I'm on board with that plan aswell! Agree with Bugsy about building two Archers first, they could maybe head towards the pass early to make sure Attila doesn't come through with a Settler of his own.
