RSG 02 (Deity) - The Randomness Continues

I tried four different ways. No joy. I just spoke with our IT guys and I have one last thing to try.

:aargh:

After six days on the throne the young Queen Maria Bugsette I got so angry at her kingdom controlling device that she jumped up and down on it until it lay in pieces at her feet. She stormed off into the forest where legend has it that she was mistaken for a "waskily wabbit" and shot by a hunter out of season.

The rule of the kingdom was passed on to Queen Menelann.

Sorry guys, I think I am going to have to be a lurker. My machine cannot handle the mod. :dunno: :(

Some thoughts on your situation, feel free to ignore if I'm posting out of place ;)

Spoiler :

Overall the situation looks a little grim, I think. This post comes across as more critical than I intended, sorry for that :)

The Good:

- You should expect a Prophet any turn, a religion could give a nice mid game boost.
- Many archers are built (but if upgrading is the plan where is the gold coming from?)
- Belgrade could soon become a solid ally

The Bad:

- Global happiness is -1, but food tiles are still being worked! Basically this is taking 0.25 food instead of 1 hammer. Not good in the early game. Lisbon is a special case since the food surplus comes with Faith, and I think the Prophet spawn chance is affected by the amount over 200 faith, right?

- Trades. I think 1-for-1 should be done as soon as possible. There are options. Maybe this is part of the "no exploit" play?

- Diplomacy is not good at all. All three AI covet Portuguese lands. Attila is in false friend mode. I think an attack is imminent.

- GPT is a problem.

- Infrastructure is very slow. What is the caravan for? External trade, I guess. With Poland?

- Need workers. If you don't steal them they need to be built.

I'd join in if you don't mind a late comer entering the fray.

:wavey:
Olodune welcome!

Any ideas on why I couldn't load the save?

We'll slot you in after Menelann

Beorn
Gurra
Menelann <= up
Olodune <= on deck
Bugs - sidelined

Olodune welcome!

Nope. I downloaded the save, installed the mod, and loaded the game with no problems. I don't have other mods on that machine.

And thanks for the welcome :)

Rename Porto to "Pink Dot",

According to Google, "Pink Dot" translates as "Ponto Rosa" in Portuguese ... that is not too far from Porto.

Also, since Catholicism has already been founded, I suggest "Nossa Senhora" as our religion, assuming we get one. Short for Our Lady of Fatima. Which is fine since we haven't founded Fatima (and since religion titles have limited character counts :p )

A final suggestion: we already have more archers than we'll have upgrade gold for in the near term so perhaps we should finish up Construction and upgrade two archers to CBs? That will give a little more firepower on the turn of a Hunnic attack ... you know, in case Attila feels like being Attila :)

... you know, in case Attila feels like being Attila :)
What could you possibly mean by that?

Welcome! and great points all around :goodjob: I think the food-tiles-for-faith is an ok move given how close we are to founding a religion, but yes, it deserves a good mention and a swift reset afterwards.

Attila has been in false friend mode for over 20 turns now. It's coming.

Sorry I haven't been here much the last week either - swamped at work.

Tried the save, loaded without a hitch. Have you tried other saves? Like mine, or your last set's? I'd be very distraught to have you left out of this game, especially with it being your SG and all.

Sorry guys, I just drove away from all stationar computers:( I may play on Monday-Tuesday or play the next turn instead.

Sorry again:(

I can play if you guys want - or we can wait - either way :)

If I play the next set I'll pause for discussion if we get a Prophet.

Olodune, why don't you play. We'll put Menelann after you. One of the IT guys at the college has some ideas on how to make this work.

A very short set, for happy reasons this time around. It is so nice to play a SG set again
------------------------------------------

0 Turn:

- Rename "Porto" to "Ponto Rosa"
- Adjust some citizen assignments to work more hammers while we are unhappy
- Start on a Granary in Ponto Rosa
- Queue up Construction -> Writing
- Discover we have one more worker than I'd though. Nice. :D
- Shuffle a few Archers, and make a pleasant surprise:

Spoiler :

What a city this will be (one day)!

IBT
- Attila asks that we don't settle near him, I agree.

1 Turn:

- Construction launches us into the Classical Age, upgrade a single archer for now
- This open up our first Decision Event :)

Spoiler :

This is basically an option for a little more gold if we need it, I decline for now. If we accept this right after a social policy perhaps we can avoid the culture cost? How zealously should we horde our magistrates?

IBT
- Discover that the Incans have a trade route running to Attila -> I think we are less likely to see war between them
- Bogata seeks protection -> I am not going to accept until we can string that with another influence gainer.

2 Turn:

- Incan Catholicism is Reformed with Jesuit Education. We may want to keep that in mind for later.
- A Prophet is born.

These are the current religions (+ Church Property has already been taken)

I think we need a money founder belief. Tithe is the obvious choice, but I don't think that we should discount Initiation Rites either. Since this is likely a low faith game, I'm not sure we should take Pagodas. Religious Community, perhaps?

Spoiler :

I like to finish the set either Friday evening or Saturday morning, so hopefully we can collect some opinions by then :)

Whales is awesome!

My votes for tithe and pagodas. We'll have strong faith input from desert folklore in Attila's lands - when we grab it. Then, happy juice is my preference.

Magistrates is a very limited resource, so before enacting a decision that requires them we should look through other decisions and see if there are any other very good decisions which use them that we are going to want to enact soon.

Basically, you have 2 from the beginning, receive 1 per era, and after researching Mathematics you can build the national wonder Judiciary Court for 3 more.

For religion, I support Tithe for Founder belief. I am on the fence when it comes to Pagodas, or any religious building for that matter. My reasoning here is that you have to invest so much faith in something that takes a long time to actually earn the yields back - especially if you don't ahve much faith per turn to begin with because then you won't get them built very early either.

But I suppose Pagodas are the best of the religious buildings given that they give both happiness and culture in addition to faith. We might really need the happiness boost that a few Pagodas could provide.

What other follower beliefs are left?

(Oh, and just for flavor - which religion will you use as base for 'Nossa Senhora' you thought we should go with - one of the other Christian ones? If so, I think Orthodoxy has a nicer symbol. :D)

Magistrates [...]

I think we definitely want the two Portuguese special mandates - one gives extra Trade Routes! (Medeival Era+, 1 magistrate, 300 gold) - the other gives Gold (requires Navigation, at least 8 naval units, 2 magistrates). I think we should save magistrates for those two. Other options looks very nice as well -> some give a partially random GP for 500 gold, once per era!

We need more gold

Ok, Tithe makes sense.

I would love to get Faith from Attila's floodplains. We could set up little shrines on top of all his dead swordsmen. However, we are nearing the end of the CB effectiveness window - and we only have 1 CB. We could poach a city if Attila is fighting elsewhere but I am a little hesitant to declare right now, but maybe we should. If we can break his units before they turn into Knights and Longswordsmen that would be good. No bribes are possible.

Yep, that was my thought as well. :c5faith:

I'm not a big religion person so I'm not familiar with all the specifics. I usually go for whatever will give me the most money or happiness. I usually avoid buildings unless they are available through another religion.

Ok, that is three of us who aren't crazy about Pagodas (at least on this map).

Nossa Senhora will require her worshipers to Tithe away their sins and and do something useful. Probably build stuff. I'll play in a few hours.

Here we go. Our religion.

Turn 73

Spices are finished - happiness is restored. Re-adjust citizens. Rejoice.

Turn 74

Spear by Belgrade is killed, but another spawns immediately in the camp. Plink away.

Turn 75

Attila enters the Medeival and makes a purposeful move towards us ... and doesn't attack. :D

Turn 76

Writing is finished. We have a choice of either Philosophy or Bronze Working or Sailing. All make sense, but I think we should go Philosophy since the National College is going to be late enough as it is :) This means Mnt. Mariagurra will go straight into a Library after the Monument. The others will finish their Granaries first.

Turn 77

Caravan is done. The best route is Lisbon <-> Kamakuro, followed by Mariagurra <-> Warsaw. I think the later is safer. Maybe Poland will be our friend.

Turn 78

2nd Belgrade Spear killed.
Caravan route increases our beakers by 50%. Yes, we are behind

Turn 79-80

Not much ... Great Lighthouse and Chichen Itza built in distant lands.

Our New CS Ally

Lisbon grows.

Notes for the next player:

1) Lisbon's borders just expanded to a new floodplain, but the worker is a a little distant (one of 4 possible expands).

2) Ponto Rosa's Granary will allow more hammers to be worked one its cultural borders expand to the gem tile. This is the slow library.

3) We are swapping 1-for-1 resource deals with Pacha and Attila, this means another spice hookup can get us more happiness.

4) It would be great to use Cargo ships between Ponto Rosa and Lisbon, but I don't think we can reach yet.

Beorn - on deck - if you can play this weekend, grab it, perhaps
Gurra
Olodune - Didn't bribe Attila. Not even a little.
Menelann <= up
Bugsy - sidelined until his IT guy gets creative. Sounds dangerous.
