Ruff06 - Testing / Illustrating BUG!

I never knew I actually was put on this roster...however, I'll play tomorrow.

@r_rolo:

Yes, it is. I patched yesterday and played some turns, only thing I saw what was not working properly was the Domestic Foreign Advisor's Glance Tab. The patch did remove it utterly from the game, so I guess our developers here have to rebuild it anew...

First of all, the unit naming convention I'm using:

36384753jn8.jpg

Complicated, eh ? Ruff has put together a fairly comprehensive read-me where all the options are laid out straight and square. So don't be afraid to use it...of course the best read-me is no guarantee a moron like me will screw it up !

Anyway, on with the game.

It was a hot summer afternoon at the Palace of Kyoto. Tokugawa and his two elder sons, Shaziki and Yamamoto, were resting with his father in the shadows of a giant tree. At least they tried to. They were sweating as the river that flows beside Kyoto, and Yamamoto said: "I'm dying in this heat. Summer at Kyoto is hell." "Well said, my son" answered Tokugawa, "I've thought about this problem too. We will move downwards the river in summer henceforth, our workers have built a nice cosy mansion with lots of shade and refreshing water there."

58026968ws0.jpg

As the leaders found out some time later the simmer mansion was also a great place for settling future industry there - it had lodes of copper and gold just within reach.

74667093db0.jpg

A wise man from a far country once came to the summer mansion then, declaring that Tokugawa was indeed a great leader to his people.

56655549az7.jpg

However there are other powers in the world, for good or for evil. This the Japanese not only learned upon meeting the Chinese, as other tribes quickly followed.

58064690bp1.jpg

The ships went to and fro from the summer mansion to the capital, thus generating great traffic [read: I thought the Bug with riverside trade only avalable upon Sailing was fixed with 3.13, which I'm using].

83403221ru0.jpg

As Tokugawa was not only a benevolent but wise leader he soon ordered that his soldiers should be arrayed with new weapons. However tzhe names were difficult to spell [read: yeah, I f*cked up the naming code  ].

25433655pu2.jpg

Roosevelt of the Americans stepped by some time later, saying nice words to the Japanese. However he cannot be trusted - he's not Japanese !

84951633gp7.jpg

Our fantastic scouts also found the hideout of the Chinese. They're just to our south - I smell battle ahead...

40007468mw7.jpg

So, these were my turns. I played 16 to bring us to a round number. I teched to Mysticism after BW (we need culture for expanding the BFCs) and went for AH later. There is an Archer at the city spot at the nort east awaiting the Settler being currently trained.

I'd give it a go too, the work you've done on this mod deserves it !

That sounds like a sign up to me! Re the naming convention ... you can only have 1 'tt1' per naming convention. Type in what you were trying to do and I'll tell you if you are crazy or give you the proper code!

or ...

I looks like you were trying for something like this for air units ...

'1st Wing 2nd Air Corp 30th Div'

use this code ...

'^cnt[o]^ wing ^tt1[o][1:20]^ Air Corp ^tt2[0][30]^ Div'

Haven't tested it but it should work ... though the [1:20] random number seems a bit strange. If you wanted 20 units per corp, put in [20:20].

cnt[o] will give you a counter across all units (ordinal), resets to 1 when tt1 hits is limit
tt1[o][1:20] will give you an air corp counter that starts at 1 and counts to a random number between 1 and 20
tt2[o][30] will give you a counter that starts at 30 and increments each time cnt is reset

Sorry for the delay, but I have the file and will play tonight/tomorrow and post it forthwith (which probably means Sunday night).

I haven't done this before (cherry!!) and want to make sure I have everything set right.

Screw fun! This is serious work! No time to fart around tweaking BUG.

I'm doing my turns now, damn it! :D

You know you're a coder at heart if you procrastinate playing to write code. I'm going out to dinner now, but I'll definitely play when I get home.

The city bars weren't showing turns until growth or build so I thought the unofficial DLL was the problem, then Civ itself when that wasn't it, but now I think it just reset my UserProfile (preferences) when I updated to 3.13.

One crisp October morning, Tokugawa came to his nephew and spoke of a plan to venture west to explore the unknown. In his place, the nephew would look over the kingdom but leave all decisions to Tokugawa's wise ministers.

Alas, the nephew was young and rash, and the ministers often referred to him as Emperor Fool behind his back. "It will be up to history to judge me fairly," he mused.

We shall see . . .

While scouting the borders of the vile Chinese, Kazuki made a disturbing discovery.

Copper.jpg

When they attack, they will be wielding fearsome metal weapons. Best that we begin our defenses now.

But not all is bad news. Our farmers and hunters have worked together to tame the local beasts.

AnimalHusbandry.jpg

And they've even found a certain breed that will prove more useful in the fields than in our bellies.

Horses.jpg

As fears of the barbarians to the south grew, talk of expansion north toward the unexplored jungles turned to action. Without his uncle's charisma, Emperor Fool was unable to quell the fear, and so a train of settlers left Kyoto to found Tokyo.

Tokyo.jpg

EF was always dreaming, and it was with delight that he heard the news of a method for sharing his dreams with others.

Writing.jpg

And soon the leaders of the other tribes sent forth emissaries seeking writs of agreement to enter our lands freely. Filthy peasants! EF sent them on their way.

BUG Highlight: We added some new alerts to Civ4lerts, one of which tells you when AIs become willing to sign Open Borders agreements.

OpenBorders.jpg

As his advisors are fond of telling EF, "Good. Bad. Who knows?" Not long after discovering a method of building more durable structures . . .

Masonry.jpg

. . . the slaves put to work using that knowledge revolted. EF wanted to ignore the problem, but his advisors convinced him it would be better to invest a small sum in order to put down the revolt.

SlaveRevolt.jpg

Apparently, some of the families preparing to expand our empire sympathized with the slaves, and it took some time to placate everyone and get them back to work.

News from EF's wandering uncle reached Osaka. Though the west is a barren wasteland, beyond it lies a vast ocean full of wonderful creatures.

Wasteland.jpg

And without warning a barbarian party swarms over the nearby hills and attacks the men EF had sent to watch over the south-eastern lands. When will they learn it is pure folly to rise up against us?

Attack.jpg

What is this? News of a people so foolish they allow a woman -- nay, a temptress! -- to lead them.

Isabella.jpg

The lands beyond our sight are strange indeed, and these Spanish might just be interesting enough to earn our friendship . . . in 1000 years maybe. For now, however, they can gawk at our wonders from outside our borders like everyone else!

Some final news from Tokugawa and Kazuki: the wasteland, though vast, is not endless. And at its border they have discovered a rich cache of fine stone. Perhaps some day our borders will extend far enough such that we could use it to build a stairway into the heavens!

Stone.jpg

----------

Mathematics is on the way (for chopping), Osaka is building the Great Wall to keep out the vile hordes, and a Settler should pop out of Kyoto in a turn or two.

We should start planning which city locations are best suited for comm or prod. Osaka looks great for both. Normally I'd go comm there (gold and spices, FPs), but it also probably has the best possibility of prod. The downside for prod is that it will be on our rear border with the ocean to the west.

I sent that archer southeast to start pressing our border to China as well as grab the rice/cow, but feel free to settle elsewhere. My normal inclination is to expand toward the AIs and save the backyard for later (as much as we can with our expansion rules).

Here is the save:

So, how'd I do for my first time?

nicely done. Have a few Greyfox like gripes, but no biggies and all to be taken with a :D. BTW ... I've played my 20 and the biggest news is that ...

Ruff06 [X-Tokugawa](Japan) declares war on Saladin(Arabia)

YES ... the score leader! Report and save coming.

Niccely done EF!:) Congratulations on your first round of an SG... for some reason I think you had a blast.;)

Ruff did you just attack our poor Arab brothers...? For shame! I hope their borders touch ours.:p

Yes, I had a great time making up the story as I went along. :) And please, let's here the gripes and criticisms as I'm a big boy and would rather improve my reports than "save face"..:)

And ya, that Arabian guy was giving me funny looks at the winter festival. Good call! :goodjob:

First of all ... I create my usual SG reminder telling me when to stop playing ...

XJapan0003.jpg

This is useful for when you might get carried away. Strangly, it didn't fire! I did have to save and load the game as I took a Dunk'n Donut run break. Do reminders carry over? Someone should check!

Next ... an overview of the country (with culture turned on).

XJapan0000.jpg

So, we hate China (way too close to us) and we slightly dislike America (blue in South East). The others ... just don't know ... depends on where they are. I will try and get some scouts out so that we can work out who our friends are.

Now, for the customary SG gripe :gripe: ... why are we farming rice when no (current) city can work it. Sure, our next city could work that farm, but our current capital could work a cottaged flood plain ... I move the worker ...

XJapan0007.jpg

Usually, I don't play with alerts so I was looking forward to the alert about Osaka growing into unhappiness. Well, no alert ... oh oh, another bug. But wait ...

XJapan0011.jpg

... someone put 'don't grow' on and didnt say!! That is a fairly big nono in an SG. Ok, gripe over. The rest is just random stuff that occured during my turn set. That said, we still have some work to do on our alert options ...

XJapan0012.jpg

So, I disable the 'don't grow, swap to a worker, city grows into unhappy, worker whipped, no more unhappy ... but will that slow down the Great Wall ...

XJapan0014.jpg

... answer: NO. Still due on turn 95 ... and now we have an extra worker. Unfortunately, we missed the wall by few turns. I mine and road the gold to raise our happy. I also roaded our country for quicker movement and connection of the copper and horses!! I hate having minded / pastured items that I cannot benefit from (ie axes and chariots) due to lack of roads.

XJapan0026.jpg

Started Alphabet after mathematics came in. Some other AIs have Alphabet because we can trade tech with them. We also met the Germans ...

XJapan0030.jpg

... don't know if we like them or not as we don't know where they are. We also missed the Oracle ...

XJapan0010.jpg

Big Fight News!!!

Now for the big news of my turn ... I had signed OBs with Saladin ... he was a good 15 tiles away and while not in the category of FRIEND, he wasn't an enemy.

XJapan0032.jpg

We did have a 'nation' touch our borders during my set (If you look at the next picture, you will see some other BUG work ... the city screen is showing worked tiles (hammer). You can also swap that over to commerce) ...

XJapan0022.jpg

... you will have to look closely, but the Barbs are touching our borders. I started building some chariots and axes to take care of this afront! The problem with the Barb city was that Saladin took it ... and then when it came out of resistance ...

XJapan0034.jpg

Oh, we failed quest of the war chariots! boo hoo! How do you see what quests are currently 'active'?

Yes, I'm still lacking in the whip department, much as I try to crack it more vigorously.

Sorry about the no-grow. I went around all the cities at the end to check for those ... but didn't save again. Durrr. :(

Farming the rice was just lame. My bad. Good turnset, and I can't wait to see how our battles against Saladhead go. :goodjob:

nono - EF ... the correct response is to look at my turn set and have a gripe about that. Say, that I left all the cities unhappy because of my use of the whip! Or, why didn't I finish alphabet so that we had a clean start

Do we have an alert about the whip anger going away ... that would be nice ... or being able to add an auto reminder about it ... or something.
