Ruff06 - Testing / Illustrating BUG!

ahh, well - I didn't manage to sneak in any turns. Anyone can grab this game now.

since transplanted aussies are such spoil sports, i have got this. report tomorrow i think.

sorry for the delay, but i've played and am doing up the rport.

I started off by finding Izumo
IMG01-1150Izumo.jpg

In 1170, FDR made peace w/QSH, and Biz got all demand-y on us:
IMG02-1170BizWants.jpg

Next turn, the AP had another vote:
IMG03-1180PalaceVote.jpg

and a farm was destroyed by someone:
IMG04-1180Sabotage.jpg

Sitting Bull wanted a trade in 1190:
IMG05-1190SittingBullTrade.jpg

but I turned him down.

Stalin won the elections:
IMG06-1190Results.jpg

Next turn, more sabotage: a cottage got destroyed.

And here’s your BUG feature:
IMG07-1220Reminder.jpg

In 1240, Sally wanted us to turn out the coffers for him:
IMG08-1240SallyDemands.jpg

Again, I said no.

The Spanish made a move on the barb city just as I was about to:
IMG09-1240BarbCityFalls.jpg

Engineering came in, and I went to with Philosophy next.

We also hit 5 million people:
IMG10-Demo.jpg

There wasn't a whole lot else to do as our borders seem reasonably secure . . . for now.

I have it - playing now.

Here is a picture of the world as we know it. Civs far a way are our friends (Bismark, Stalin, Khan) and they get what ever they ask for. We also like trading with them. Civs a little way away (Saladin, Roosevelt) are ok and we can trade with them. Civs near us (Isabella, Qin) are our enemies and they get their just desert!

Ruff06-0006.jpg

So, in light of that,
  • I trade Machinery to Bismark for Feudalism and 50 gold
  • try to talk to Kublai Khan who will not even do that (!)
  • Trade Machinery plus 25 gold to Roosie for Theology and Horseriding

I also check our civics to find that we haven't revolted to Bureaucracy (where is Fox when you need him) ... :gripe:. I swap to this and Org Rel to spread our religion around (BTW - we are in 'no state religion' for the culture?). Lunacy - I swap to Hinduism later in my turn set (3 of our buddies are Hindu).

During my turn set ...
  • Qin asks to convert to Judaism - HA! no way
  • I find Satsuma on permanent Samurai build - that is a bit of a no no in an SG - turn that off
  • see that hindu buildings give us +2 hammers and take about 30 minutes to figure out why (haven't played much BtS)
  • finish our ring of cities
  • vote YES for 'Stop Trading with Isabella' in the Apostolic Palace vote (vote fails)
  • decide not to give Isabella 390 gold after she asks for it - the cheek
  • give Bismark (our buddy) 380 gold when he asks for it
  • learnt literature and start on The Great Library (failed, it fell to Roosie)
  • Started the Epics - decided that Kagoshima is to be a GP farm (gave it the pigs from next door) and started to build some farms there - also build a farm or two so that our military cities can work the mines
  • Traded rice for fish with our buddy Bismark
  • Swapped our spying around to watch our buddies Stalin, Sitting Bull and to keep watching Isabella and Saladin (I don't trust those two)
  • Traded Engineering to Bismark for Philosophy and 155 gold
  • Gave Civil Service to Sitting Bull (our buddy) after he asked for it
  • Turned Isabella down after she rudely demanded Philosophy
  • Discovered Music (free artist - what should we do with him? He will lightbulb Drama or Islam if we learn Drama - I am inclined to settle in our capital)
  • spread Hindu to our cities / also spreading confucianism

So, where is this game heading? Here is the state of play re relationships ...

Ruff06-0034.jpg

Qin and Isabella hate us - that is ok because we hate them! Our relationships with our buddies are improving. We are paying 19 gold per turn in army upkeep. Should we make them pay their way? If we remove Qin, a bunch of the '-4 you declared on our friend' might go away.

A change for BtS (I think), previously, you could tell if an AI didn't have something as it would appear on your list of things to trade to them (see pic, iron, copper and horses to Isabella). I know she has them (see insert).

Greyfox (up - some decisions and direction required)

negyvenketto (skip)

A change for BtS (I think), previously, you could tell if an AI didn't have something as it would appear on your list of things to trade to them.

Yes, and on top of that they will actually buy those duplicate things from you now. I can understand this in light of corporations, but it seems goofy in some cases, like this one with Iron to Isabella who would have to lose her capital to lose her Iron.

BTW, did I get skipped? I was waiting for more people to play after you last played since you played right after me, but now you've played again. I don't much care, but weekends are my best chance to play and report, so if it's cool I'd like to play this weekend.

I sometimes use the free artist for a GA, but I'm cool with settling in the capital. I'm in favor of a little skirmish with Qin, more so in favor of removing him from the game. I never could figure out why destroying a civ didn't turn those "-2 you declared war on our friend" to "-5 you destroyed our friend".

EmperorFool - the roster got totally screwed so if you want to - grab the game and play.

And Hindus hate Osaka. Two missionaries failed to spread Hinduism to this quaint little backwater town. Heathens I say! Of course, this same town was the main producer of Confucius missionaries -- who were all successful in spreading their faith thankyouverymuch, so I guess it all balances out.

Edit: I forgot that I settled the GA in the northeastern city instead of the capital. It already has a market, and the +12:culture: will help push out the border there.

An AP vote was called to stop trade with Qin. Our friends voted against it, but our semi-enemies voted yes, so it passed.

The turnset started out nicely enough. Bismarck declared war on Kublai Khan on turn 1, and Saladin followed suit on turn 2. Spain laid low except, moving around some troops (7 catapults and 2 elephants up Northwest) and founded a city, completing the encirclement of our territory on the west coast.

NewSpanishCity.jpg

Qin or Isabella no doubt were responsible for the poisoning of Satsuma's well.

SatsumaPoisoned.jpg

This wouldn't be the last little spy adventure in our territory. Apparently we have a few "admirers."

Bismarck asked us to join in his war with Kublai Khan,

NoWarWithKhanForBismarck.jpg

but KK is our friend, and the enemy of my friend is not my enemy if he's my friend, or something like that.

While our Hindi expansion may not have gone very well this turnset, everyone else went bonanza. Here is one turn:

HindiExpansion.jpg

I thought my game had gone awry when the sound kept repeating until I noticed the messages were for different cities.

Somewhere around here a windmill and hamlet were destroyed by more spies. Our spy, however, brought back the first maps of China's capital and southern coast.

FirstLookAtChineseCapital.jpg

ChineseSouthernCoast.jpg

And while Osaka clearly doesn't like Hinduism, it sure does love copper. :)

MoreCopper.jpg

And now my turnset has come to a end (notice BUG's addition of displaying reminders that fired that turn in the flashing end-turn text). I'd trim this screenshot if I weren't feeling so lazy right now. Look at the bottom center of the image, in the trees.

LastTurnReminder.jpg

Here's a look at the various attitudes with the war indicators.

Glance.jpg

This gave me another idea for BUG's scoreboard. Back when I was building the aligned icons feature, I made translucent versions of the various icons that show in the scoreboard, including the fist. I was thinking that this version of the fist could be used for two different purposes (via option or just choosing one):

  • Civs that are at war with a civ that you are at war with (war allies, in a way, even though they could be your enemy as well), or
  • Civs that are at war with some other civ.
This would give you a view of what other civs are at war when they are at peace with you.

Okay, turn log:

And the save: Ruff06_X-Tokugawa_AD-1450.CivBeyondSwordSave

A quiet turnset, the only highlight which I am glad to report is I accomplished what Emperor had not ... completing the Hindu Ring :D

About victory direction, I think it might be best to go for space. So, when we got guilds:

bug-AD1460-guilds.jpg

I immediately go for Education, which was bulbed when a scientist was born:

bug-AD1500-scientist.jpg

And we are now a few turns away from Liberalism. I don't think anyone can snatch it from us, so might be possible to switch to other techs one turn before Liberalism is in to enable a more expensive tech for Lib freebie.

Related to teching, Hinduism building just got a bit more lucrative:

bug-AD1490-UoS.jpg

Production wise, I built a few knights and pikes, seeing that Izzy is heavy with elephants, cats, and knights. Also built a few spies to be stationed in our cities, since the number of sabotage is getting frequent.

bug-AD1480-spy-sabo.jpg

Well, I suspect its either Izzy or QSH. If it was the former, she got what she deserved then:

bug-AD1490-votes.jpg

Despite sabotaging our mines, we still manage to pop something out of them:

bug-AD1525-sit.jpg

Note that Izzy is amassing quite an army in the NE as indicate din the above screenie. Might be good to beef up our defense a little.
