S-03 Hackers

Sorry guys I was kind of busy tonight and only managed to play 7 turns. Will finish this tomorrow.
Monty has rifles now and is showing resistance but his counter attacks are getting very thin along the turns. And more important, his golden age is just finished (I forgot that but it explains why he was churning units like mad)

WW is huge

IHT : replace gems to copper trade with Izzy with a (gems +11g) for copper
I take Alex extra 1gpt too by renogtiating a deal

Draft three units

Whip washington as they are braggin some nonsense about their home motherland.

IBT : an aztec caravel kills our caravel
Monty upgrades his units to rifles.
rifles war in the 1100 ADs is fearsome. Don't want to mess with standard deity games

Turn 1 : Another round of drafting (only two this time)

Kill an aztec knight near borders

The stack who took Cali is brought back into cultural borders to heal in forest

The stack in Philly needs another turn to heal

IBT : we get sci mthod

Turn 2 : I am going to concentrate on grenadiers now until steel comes in
Move stack from Philly. Upgrade some pikes to grenadiers (we have very nice pikes BTW at combat III)

IBT : I really thought I'd loose Philly. Monty attacked it with a cat then with some knights out of the blue and finally with 2 rifles. There's only a cat and a wounded grenadier in there by the end. We would have took it back next turn easily but I hate loosing cities back to AI as it is a silly way to increase WW

Turn 3 : revenge killing all the units involved in Philly attack and still living. Start moving the healed guys from the eastern stack

Talk about an easy pillage mission :

01-EasyPillaging.jpg

Drafting, whipping where there's crap tiles used or angriness pointing out.

Texcoco is hiding the defenders number with caravels.

02-TexcocoFirstClash.jpg

Well, he can't know how many units we have either and we don't have no loosy caravels just good enough to sink. Man, I miss civ 3 sinking ships and exploding planes in captured cities

IBT :
aztec knight (ak) kills cat, this is no fair fight

Turn 4 : a rifle kills ak, this is no fair fight
Troops advancing

IBT : the stack at Texcoco gets a serious beating. We loose about 4 grenies and what annoys me the most is that 3 of them were lost with 70% odds for our favour. Oh well, I am not sure to go after this city right now. Will be waiting in hill until reinforcements come since Monty seems to counter attack only at this side. Philly gets attacked too. Monty is still building a good bunch of units it seems

Turn 5 : Kill attackers at Philly
Bombard Texcoco to 0

IBT : Texcoco stack gets attacked again and we loose one grenie. Monty losses are far more important
The eastern stack gets a cat attack causing little collateral damage.
Monty attacks again with caravel and wins.

Turn 6 : kill aztec wounded caravel.
Philly is now completely secure since a lot of rifles are there
WW is at 12 in capital. Nasty

The eastern stack is near Teotihuacan

My reinforcements are not next to Texcoco yet but some rifles are wounded there, they will get promotions next turn and they have killed our units. I have a lot of cats so I decide to attack now though I don't know how many units are there in city. This will reduce the huge amount of supply we are paying

I start with 2 barrage II cats. They don't scratch the rifles one bit but both withdraw :). Good collateral damage
Then 3 cats suicide and grenadiers kill three rifles. The remaining odds are too poor so I stop here

IBT : Monty golden age ends. Oh so he was on golden age. He may calm down from now on

Turn 7 :
Bombard
Get lux to 20% and start a colo at Kara

session 2 starts : eastern stack starts bombarding teoTihuacan

IBT :
Monty looses two knights. We loose 2 grenadiers. Texcoco war is really a bloody one. But 4 fresh rifles are finally there to protect the stack and let it heal. I don't think I'll take the city next turn though

Turn 8 :
Philly out of revolt and whipped a harbour. Nice trading routes we're getting there, that's for sure

03-Philly.jpg

I finish bombarding Teo.. down to 0%. Suicide 2 cats (the garrison II rifle in unscratched)

Teotihuacan is down. 10 turns of revolt

04-TeoTihuacan.jpg

IBT : the fresh troops near Texcoco do their job. Monty suicides three knights and don't throw in any rifles.
He is completely ignoring the fact that teotihuacan has fallen and is sending units past it without even paying a look

Izzy demands 300 gold. I agree quickly. She is now pleased. Good thing. An attack from her and we're toast. Kara would probably fall and there's no way we can defend Beshbalik

We got divine right

Turn 9 :
philly next building after the whipped harbour is a theatre. Liz has put an annoying city down there so we may as well annoy her a bit with our overwhelming culture

Start moving troops to the aztec capital city and converge to Texcoco with the finally built grenadiers

IBT :
Monty suicides 4 knights and a rifle. Stack still holding. I guess he is using some forbidden cloning experiments. It just seems like he has an infinite number of knights converging on Texcoco

Turn 10 :
Colosseum finished in Kara. There's no more angry faces at 20% lux. Resume grenadiers factory

Drafting, whipping

Asked Izzy to declare on Lizzie but she won't return the favor (okay, my demand is a bit more expensive, but she did say we were friends when she got money)

IBT : We go rifle for rifle

Turn 11 :
Our troops get to the aztec capital. It is defended by 4 rifles and a knight
Texcoco gets another stack of reinforcements, this time with grenadiers. Texcoco, your time has come.

IBT : the knight in the capital comes attacking Texcoco stack. We get attacked by the knight parked at the horses tile too. I deduce that Monty is using his last breath

Turn 12 : Texcoco has 7 caravels and 7 galleys
Send 2 barrage II cats (one withdraws)
Send 2 CR II cats. Both die but both wound rifles (great)
Grenadiers start mop up at >90% odds : city is down. finally

05-TexcocoFalls.jpg

Teno stack starts to bombard city

I also turn Philly and Cuzco to maximize commerce. We are going to take a bunch of cities and while they will be in revolt, our economy will be suffering. Add to that the fact we'll need to increase lux again.

IBT :

Liz comes offering sheep for ivory. I give her silk instead.
I use the opportunity to beg her for some money and she obliged

Monty don't move a single unit

Turn 13 : WW in capital is now +19. Lux up to 30%. It is ironic that the hard coup we got to WW is when we finally managed to take Texcoco. They should celebrate not whimp

We get Teno this turn. Last combat is pike vs knight. Funny when rifles and knights are all around the place.

06-TenoFalls.jpg

The number of our units in Aztec lands now is just overwhelming. I switch some cities to infra. We are at 0 gpt at 30% lux and WW would only go worse

IBT :
nothing special

Turn 14,15 : WW is now +21 in capital. I start a jail there.
We are moving on two fronts

eastern front :

07-EasternFront.jpg

Western front

08-WesternFront-1.jpg

Liz will plant a city in the middle of aztec land in the next turn. We can't do anything about it, revolts are just taking a lot of time.

Asperger, if WW become uncontrollable before you can finish the bastard, we can sign a peace treaty, regroup and blow him fast after 10 turns. But we should be able to clean the east at least before doing that

Sorry for keeping it so long

Wow Blid you look like you had your work cut out for you. I wondered too where all those knights were coming from. Our stacks did good. Tough turn and very productive. Monty is weakened quite a bit now. I am surprised that he got to rifles already. That is early for him to have rifles.

Why are we still at war with Roos? I'll make peace with him.
Let Lizzy found her city there, it will only cost her money.
Lizzy already has Astronomy, Steel, Physics, Artillery, Rocketery and probably more....

Isn't it true that if we make peace and declare 10 turns later, WW is immediately as high as before? Better finish him off immediately. Pity we can't make him a vassall.

Wow, great report Blid. That was really good fun to read. I like these deity wars!

phony war, it don't participate to WW so it don't matter one way or the other. I checked and he didn't have even 10 gold to pay as tribute so I ignored him.

Asperger said:

True, but during the 10 turns your economy can run at max speed and you can regroup all your units in the last resisting area to accelerate final mop-up. It also gives the opportunity to extort Monty money.
Anyway, I mentioned this since he has planted numerous crappy cities in the southern pole, but you still have many cities rape to take in the east and in the tundra

We sure need to do something about Lizzie once Monty is dealt with. War invitations with Izzy didn't work. Maybe we can try to accumulate a huge amount of money, declare war then try to bribe Izzy or Alex. A pity Izzy didn't discover astro yet. We can make surprise landing then and mass pillaging

Also, we can give a free resource to Alex to try to get him pleased again. He is very disappointing this game with his peaceful mood

Preview:
I don't like phony wars so make peace with Roosevelt, get his WM.
Cultureslider > 40%, can't stand angry faces.
Give Tiwanaku an engineer so soon we will get another GE.
We have 2 stacks, one going to the east, one to the south.

1250 AD
Lizzy adopts free speech so she get 2 gold extra from her towns. She founds a nice cute little stupid city in the middle of our empire, Monty comes one turn to late with his settler, a brave grenadier kills the protecting aztec rifleman and turns the settler into a worker.

1civ4lizzycityaa9.jpg

The stack in the south is too big for the 2 silly aztec tundra city's its gonna take/raze so send a few back to the eastern stack.

1256 AD
bombard Tlacopan and Tlatelolco.

IB
Astronomy comes in. Aztec caravel destroys a caravel.

1262 AD
Caravel takes revenge, and gets upgraded to frigate.
I've given it a deep and profound thought, almost couldn't come to a decision, but at last decided to put research on communism (7098 turns).

Battle of Tlatelolco:
- 4 grenadiers (90 - 99%) defeating 3 riflemen and one knight > Tlatelolco is ours.

2civ41thcaptureby0.jpg

Battle of Tlacopan (city of furs):
- bombard to zero,
- 2 grens (78 - 88%) defeat 2 riflemen, Tlacopan is ours

3civ42thcapturehh8.jpg

IB
Catapult and knight suicides against our stack.

1268 AD
We now have 4 stacks for 4 different aztec city's. After their capture/raze Monty will be thrown back to south pole.
Stacks arriving at Xochicalco and Los Angeles.

1274 AD
Other stacks arrive at Thracian and Tlaxcalca, which shows more cats then rifles in these city's.
Karakorum : jail > frigate
Culture: 40% > 20% (this needs some whipping)

IB
2 cats and a knight destroy themself against my stack, another cat retreats

1280 AD
Knight goes scouting spanish and english territoty.
Our frigate these turns busy clearing the Midsea of aztec caravels(3) and a galley.
Lizzy has Steampower (and coal)

IB
One silly catattack.

1286 AD
Battle to raze los Angeles:
- cat suicides,
- 3 grens (94 - 95%) defeat 3 rifles and the tundra city of los Angeles has gone.

Battle to raze Xochicalco:
- cat does damage and get destroyed,
- 2 grens (94 , 79%) defeat rifles, we destroy Xochicalco and pillage a town and a mine

civ42thrazefb6.jpg

1292 AD
Monty doesn't give up: another settler appears, but i'll give him no chance.
Our brave frigate ("Protector of the Midsea") has destroyed all caravels and galleys in the neightbourhood without any help or rest.

Cancel the sugar & silk deal with Lizzy: we get only one health-resource and 12 gold for 2 happy resources....We shouldn't support Lizzy.
Get 2 extra gold out of our existing deal with Isabella.

IB
We get physics. Washington, Olmec and Karakorum have uranium, but olmecs uranium is near the new english city.

1300 AD
Battle of Tlaxcalca:
- 1 cat suicides, another retreats
- 4 grens (95 - 99%) defeat 4 rifles,
- 2 rifles destroy 2 cats and we take Tlaxcalca.

Battle of Thracian:
- cat bombard to zero,
- 2 cats suicides,
- 5 grens (96 - 81%) defeat 4 rifles and 1 knight,
- rifle (97%) def. rifle,
- 4 rifles crack 4 cats ,Thracian is ours.

5civ4finalcapturexj6.jpg

We make peace with our beloved Montezuma, him rest two pole-city's,

6civ4peacemontyzx7.jpg

i refused to take one city from him in the peace deal.

Culture > zero, we make 122 gold/turn.
Alex gives us 200 gold.
Do the following trait with Lizzy:

4civ4coalhorsedealsq2.jpg

we can't do anything with coal, but are horses for use for her ? She ain't no Cathy.

1308 AD
Start build of Forbidden Palace in ....? somewhere at a strategic location probably....

1316 AD
Upgrade a few Longbows in bordercity's.

IB
Steampower comes in

1322 AD
We have coal near Texcoco, Tlaxcala and Huamanga, and offcause just like uranium, near that new english city.

1328 AD
?? moving troops to spanish border and so on

1334 AD
Military tradition comes in, we may build Westpoint, and within 1 turn we will get our second Great Engineer in Tiwanaku.

7civ4ourworldxw6.jpg

Next victim will be Lizzy i suppose

i just saw that farms in the eastern aztec area are not irrigated ...

save

Sure, Spain and the 2 aztec city's will be (almost) enough but if this was a sologame i would say that's to easy i want just another challenge, that is take on Elizabeth. OK, Lizzy has artillery and we have cats, but almost every city can make units from now on (we make +220gold/turn).

Maybe it's just more exciting for me to see how you guy's take on Lizzy, i should have played my last turns in this game....

Come on Sooooo! Let show us how great a warrior you are by taking on Elizabeth!

Blid, it's just to easy to play after you, you always give me enormous stacks and an exhausted opponent ;)

I played 10 turns and I recommend others do the same from now on.

On the inherited turn I make inland cities grow because they have nice tiles to work. I draft from the coastal cities which would otherwise be working the coast. I cancel open borders with lizzy because she is probably getting more benefit out of them than us.

I squeeze in a harbour build in Karakorum because it's our biggest city so should be able to get the juciest trade routes. Also I use the great engineer for West Point here. On my second turn Al Gore found we could change this crappy pig iron into nice shiny knives and forks. Oh, and cannons too. I spent most of our cash upgrading our catapults. Most of our coastal cities switched to our cheap drydocks.

On turn 3 we advanced towards England through Spain. On turn 5 Al earnt a cookie for biology, which is great. And by great I mean totally sweet. Our cities are growing rather rapidly now. Izzy dropped down to cautious so I gifted her some stone for a while to try and improve her mood. It hasn't had an effect yet.

Turn 8 we get Artillery. We also declare on Elizabeth. My first target is razing the two closest cities, Canterbury and Hastings. Canterbury is weekly defended but hastings has a naval party. We don't really have enough siege units but that brings us back to Mike's roosevelt quote.

There is also a stack of 7 or so highly promoted grenadiers 1 turn away that you can't see in that screenshot.

On the first IBT we suffer no casualties. No doubt artillery are heading our way but we don't have a counter for them until someone discovers infantry. Bombard.

On turn 9 we finish bombarding but get heavilty artilleried. Only 1 rifle won in defense, and we lost 3 rifles, 2 grenadiers and 1 cav at Canterbury. Lizzy sailed a party of 2 artillery and 2 SAM infantry on transports from Hastings north. I predict they will land at Karakorum so be ready for them. Less SAMs in Hastings for defense though. A frigate is sunk by a destroyer out of the blue.

On turn 10 it's payback time. In between turns we got penta-artilleried again, and lost 2 rifles, a gren. 2 of our troops won.

At Hastings there are 6 defenders:

2 arti
2 redcoats
2 SAMs

Our forces:

10 rifles
1 cav
3 cannon
6 grens
1 pike (medic)
1 cat

Our barrrage catapult dies as predicted, but out of our 3 cannons, 1 wins and the other 2 withdraw (all cannons were wounded to strength 10). We go ahead and raze the city with no further losses.

Canterbury has been reinforced. It now has:

3 artillery
7 SAMs
2 redcoats

The good guys have:

2 cannons
1 cav
4 rifles
15 grenadiers
2 knight
2 cats

A cat withdraws and another loses. A cannon loses and the other withdraws. Luckily the stack has our combat 2, pinch, city raider 3 grenadiers to attack. Man, they rock. They take out the top defenders and leave our regular combat pinch rifles/grens to finish the job. We raze the city with the loss of 2 grenadiers.

In the south I had a frigate and a cat bombarding Brighton. It is only defended by 1 redcoat and 1 SAM so no need for suicide siege weapons. We take the city by softening up the defenders with 2 rawly drafted (and hence 3 exp) rifles and finish the job with experienced troops. It has crappy terrain but is a canal city.

We should probably withdraw to Spain to heal. We also need more siege weapons before we can take on London.

We just a nonstop warring machine.

Well, I beat on Lizzy some more, but she got one counterpunch in. This is going to be short, sweet, and picture light, so I can go to bed sooner.

First order of business was razing Norwich, which was a crappy size 2 city that Liz someone snuck deep inside our perimeter.

I spent most of the first few turns drafting, moving troops west, and healing up the stacks from Sooooo.

In 1418 we discovered Rocketry. We can start upgrading to SAM infantry once all of our City Raider grenadiers get into our territory.

At this point we are unable to draft. Apparently we can't draft Riflemen anymore but we don't know Assembly Line so Infantry are right out too. I don't usually pay much attention to SAM infantry - in fact, I may not ever even have built any against the AI, but usually I seem to pick them up after we already have regular infantry anyway. So usually this gap in draft coverage isn't an issue.

Too much drafting will prolong the game anyway. We are closer to the land domination than the population percentage. Usually it's the other way around, but I guess we've been heavy on the whip and draft.

In 1424 I'm done reducing the defenses at York and I press the attack. Things go surprisingly well. We lose 2 riflemen, but kill 2 infantry and 1 SAM infantry. We take the city.

1430AD will forever be remembered as the Year Liz Strikes Back or possibly The Year Where Mike's Ignoring All of the Battleships Bombarding Our Coast Bites Him in the Rear. She landed a couple of SAMs and an artillery on our east coast and razed Thracian. There were so many battleships and destroyers on our coasts that I just plain missed it. Even with our new drydocks, our Frigates don't have a prayer.

As of the save, there's still a hostile SAM running around, but there are enough units arriving to take care of him.

I did manage to save the galley guarding the clams at Karakorum. He retreated into the city when an English destroyer showed up. The clam nets got trashed though.

Dover was garrisoned by two English infantry and I lost 1 Artillery, 1 Cavalry, 1 grenadier and 1 rifleman taking it. Southeast of Dover is Leeds, which is founded on top of Oil. We may want to take that from Liz and deny her Oil.

1448 Railroad comes in. Our workers have something meaningful to do for the first time in centuries.

Isaac Newton is born in London. Unfortunately for the English, his nursery got hit by our artillery and he didn't survive the Battle of London. We lost one artillery and 2 low level grenadiers, and London is ours!

There are troops heading NW from York to take out two more British cities.

There are also troops in Spanish territory east of London. I suggest they move towards Phrygian and Coventry.

Our City Raider Grenadiers are heading towards York. When they get there, we can upgrade them, there should be enough cash for the top 5-6 units. Though you may want to wait until Assembly Line is researched, since regular infantry are Str 20 instead of 18.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/56599/Hackers_AD-1454.Civ4SavedGame

I have to say, I didn't expect to do so well at York or London. Maybe I got a little lucky, but right now we have a define case "Quantity has its own Quality" going on with our military.

Great work guys ruining Lizzy! Getting from cats to artillery within a few turns is also not too bad. Only point of doubt is actually taking the far away english city's. Think i would have razed them. If we finally go to war with Isabelle these city's may become a probem.

Alex is willing to go to war with Lizzy, but that will not be neccassary.

Good job guys. We are in London already
I would lean to keep those english cities too. Spain and grecce would otherwise plant cities there in no time, I don't think we want that. They pay nearly nothing on maintenance on deity and they start earning fruits immediately.

As for next war, we can go against Alex instead of Izzy. It is far easier since there's a choking point where we can turn its stacks to dust with artillery before we go on

Just to make thing a bit harder and more interesting....why don't we go for conquest ?? Leave Lizzy a few tiny city's (for her techs), than take on Isabella (keep most of her city's) and finally raze everything of Alex and raze the other civ's......

Forgot to mentoin outright that I only played 10 turns. These stacks are pretty big, so 10 was enough for me. Of course, if someone has the time and feels like playing 15, go for it!

I kept the cities because I thought we were going for domination. Conquest just seems like a lot of extra work since we'll be doing it with inferior units.

Make sure that Liz isn't totally eliminated though! That would ruin our Internet connection.
