S&T PBEM Discussion Thread

Can I still change my civ? I forgot that the ability for legions to build roads and forts is Civ 5. I request a change to Greece.

Well BtS doesn't have the Venetian civ, much less the Noyyau

I went and picked another mediterranean trading civ for that reason though.

Old world that colonizes new world is a good idea! Just not a true Earth map please, there better be some randomization of landscape

Isn't that the mod that supports only 4 players MP? I like the idea but if this max player number is still true, and being a mod it doesn't fill the purpose started here (Greek can't play mods).

BTW, being a PBEM, how much time it takes on average for you guys to pass the turn? And how many ppl are playing the same game?

No, no you start with 4, but you can end up with all 18 as time goes by. Installing Mods is super easy -- download, unzip, done :) DoC does not support MP (which PBEM is).

Turnarounds are really depending on players' ability and interest to play as soon as they can. Anywhere between once a day or once a week. Standard is to expect turn be played within 48 hours even for complex game.

There is a Earth 1000 AD scenario that comes with vanila BTS and requires no mods. If you allow 1 player to control 2 civs -- things will go fast and fun.

Yup! Got it.

@Tigranes: I always get crashes when I load mods.

I would love to help you Greek but me and MACs can't get along. It's like two positive ends of magnetism trying to get together.

I may do this host as I was saying, if no one has a spare pc that can be kept on for the whole day, at least until 12th of august when my classes will resume.

So:
A: I'm still not decided to which civ, I prefer everyone picks theirs and then I get mine (I truly have no preference)
B: I may do the hosting
C: We may do a specific map or a mapscrpt. if it's a mapscript of Old/New world I recommend Totestra, which is a better PerfectWorld. If it'll be a scenario I have no preference.
D: I prefer not to engage in alliances by now

A - I'll do Persia. I like their UU, and I had a failed story with them a long while back.
B - I don't think I could host.
C - Stick with my previous suggestion.
D - Stand by my earlier stance, no alliances

On my stance on alliances, I say we have no preset alliances. Let us ally when we see fit to in an ever changing world of alliances, deceit, and war.

Yup! Got it.

Even those shipped with vanila BTS?

Perhaps you do not install mods in the right place.

But regardless, playing a ready to go scenario is always more fun than starting from the scratch on some random map. For example if you go with Earth 1000 AD scenario (no mods):

Take into consideration that if you host, you need another pc or enough RAM to be able to host and play at the same time

Could I possibly ask how to figure that out? :p

I'm sorry, I'm not too tech-savvy as it may be. I mean, it did take me a year to figure out how to load one mod.

It's simple.

Imagine you running civ to play. It consumes RAM memory for it to run (RAM is used to run things, when those things stop running they stop consuming RAM). You may check your RAM going to My Computer -> Properties.

But knowing how much RAM you have doesn't truly let you know if you're able to host and play. Actually you should test it, and here is why:

Hosting a game through PitBoss is the same as running the game, but you actually don't play it. If you want to play it you have to run another instance of the game, the normal one that you're used to and connect to the Pitboss. So you're actually running 2 civ games on the same computer, which means twice the memory usage of RAM with CIV.

If your computer sucks in RAM, you'll probably experience problems or slowness. Or you may get another computer and run one with the Pitboss and the other with your player.

I think my pc can handle it

So I'm hosting a PITBOSS game right now to check if things are working, anyone that wants to help me on this go to vanilla BtS - Multiplayer - Direct IP and put:
IP: 187.126.179.201
Pass: BOSS

I'll be there waiting

I'll do it

I tried it three times and it timed out those three times. I'm supposed to go to Direct IP Connection right?

I did. I capped the password and I copy pasted the IP see 187.126.179.201
