Wow. If you're a Republican who can't win in Salt Lake City, where do you expect to win? (btw, the Tribune is not a liberal newspaper)

A choice bit

Crazy Mormon Newspapers said:
John McCain, meanwhile, crushed Mitt Romney to gain his party's nomination, but then blundered badly by not bringing the business-savvy Romney onto the ticket. Romney would have shored up McCain's poor grasp of economic policy.
Then, out of nowhere, and without proper vetting, the impetuous McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She quickly proved grievously underequipped to step into the presidency should McCain, at 72 and with a history of health problems, die in office. More than any single factor, McCain's bad judgment in choosing the inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged Palin disqualifies him for the presidency.

Thoughts?

Those crazy Mormons are on to something.

And maybe this just goes over my head because I'm not American, but why would Mormons vote Republican? Is there some sort of polygamy bill they promised to pass?

The Salt Lake Tribune is a far-left publication whose readership has been declining for years and now they are resorting to pandering to the far-left crowd to try and get readers back. Meanwhile my book is the number 1 bestseller, but the New York Times, a far-left newspaper, lies and doesn't even put me on the list. Buy my book for $26 off of my website and I'll send a free copy to a soldier even though you can buy three copies for less than that off Amazon and still have money left over.[/Bill O'Reilly]

I get the feeling that 60% of what Bill O'Reilly says is crap.

There are several reasons.

1) Geographic. Mormons in the US tend to be concentrated in some of the most conservative parts of the country...Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, etc.
2) Political/Theological. Mormons tend to be socially conservative .As a church, we oppose gay marriage and abortion (most of the time).
3) Cultural. The church was prob. a more conservative institution during from the late 1950s-1970s. We had a member of the John Birch Society as our president for a while (who also served in the Ike Cabinet). That helped turn a generation of Mormons pretty conservative. This is absolutely changing. This generation (17-25 year olds) prob. has more Dems than any LDS generation in 60+ years.

In retrospect, Romney would have been a great choice, although I've never liked him too much.

That is pretty incredible. It's one thing to hear so many Coloradan Mormons express support for Obama, but for the stronghold itself? Pretty sad for McCain, and it's apparently from the entire editorial board.

That seems awfully low. To be fair, though, he can easily win any argument against a middle schooler.

"Nuh UH! YOU'RE a stupid face!"

It seems that a big part of their reason is they feel McCain wronged the mormon Romney.

What has that got to do with it? You said that Bill spouts mostly crap, and I am he. :p
I never understood that kid. He was SO consistent with his stupidity, it actually seemed genuine. Yet, I don't see how anyone can truly be so dumb. AND, your email address is circled in that image in Red Stranger's uploaded image. So he circled it, or did an administrator or Thunderfall modify the uploaded image? He couldn't possibly have circled it and still believed it was O'Reilly.

EDIT: Apparently I made a mistake too. I reread the linked to thread too quickly. He said he thought that the user Erik Mesoy was Bill O'Reilly. So he probably circled the email address.

Meh. I'm a middle schooler, and I slaughtered this guy who believed global warming is a myth. (Don't ask me; ask my cousin) I doubt Papa Bear could be much harder. Back on topic, that is pretty suprising. But it does seem like one of the big reasons they did so was because his running mate isn't Mormon. (Of course, Obama's is Catholic, adding to the confusion.)

If the remains of the Repub was split by religious schism (Mormons and Fundies), then I think there was no rational way for anyone to unite it, short of some kind of core mediation (probably a big "as if!")

Given that economics is one of McCain's stronger talking points, not giving the VP spot to Romney (a proven manager and executive) was a terrible way to focus on the economy.

Morman's don't really make up that much of the party.
