I agree that they could have chosen sites that were not literally on top of civilian areas, although in that part of London there is a limit to how far you can get from someone's home. On the other hand, how secure is a temporary structure in a park and how much would it cost to put up? I am sure the budget for this is not inexhaustable.

The thing I am taking issue with primarily is the idea that this is totally unnecessary.
This is clearly a fatuous argument. Bombing a house is totally avoidable.

A temporary structure in a park or industrial area could be surrounded in temporary fencing and access restricted. Part of Wanstead Flats is already going to be fenced off for use by the police.

The cost would be in the region of £50k to £100K for the pair, now.

Probably simply because fighter aircraft have a significantly longer response time than a SAM. Minutes, rather than seconds. An aircraft doing a mere 300 miles/hr will cover 5 miles in the minute it takes a Eurofighter to get in the air and get up to speed.

There has also been talk of pop up helicopter attacks.

I suppose a helicopter could be brought in on the back of an artic. There are plenty of quite roads at the weekends or evening within a couple of miles, where a helicopter could be uncovered the rotors deployed and take off .

I like how we're being accused of NIMBYism when, to my knowledge, neither Silurian nor I live in any of the buildings affected. Indeed, I would be among the people to benefit most from having SAMs on those buildings, all the more so if I'm right about it encouraging terrorist attacks on those buildings instead of other buildings in East London.

The only people I suggested as being guilty of Nimbyism were those whose back yards were affected. In some respects their nimbyism is understandable, but their stance that this is unnecessary is not. And that is the substance of my posts.
