Saturday Night, Hamachi FFH3 ffh

I'll (hopefully) be up for gaming tomorrow. In the near future in any case. You might want to join FallFromHeavenTalisman password ffh as well.

I'd play, but I don't like war, and I hear everyone online only goes for conquest victories. It wouldn't be very appealing to me, mainly because I lose 90% odd battles (in my favor) about 2/5 times :/. So I just play IP games with fellow friends who also do not like war... then we have a grand old culture, religion, and altar fest! It's great!

Saturday afternoon 2pm EST looking for players.
Thanks. Right after New Year's I plan to return to gaming full time. I should be able to play between the hours of 4AM and 3PM your time on weekdays and at any time on weekends.

For scheduling purposes, I suggest you use GMT time since many FfH players hail from outside the States. I find this site: GMT very useful for that purpose since it translates your local time to GMT automatically for you.

Ah. But I've experienced every sort of game while playing with people from this site. I have even been in team games with humans vs AI a few times. I'm always up for a peaceful game, and most FfH players I've gamed with seem willing to go that route too.

Two things you might consider: Civ IV play tends to be much, much more aggressive than what is the norm in FfH mods. Many of the big wars I get into in FfH result from my need to prevent a non-conquest victory or to protect my own non-conquest victory. Also, the battle odds bug affects human players equally, so that shouldn't cause you to have a disadvantage in MP mode.

Ah, nice! Doesn't sound bad. I'm not very good (I usually run at about second place [but very close to first, if not first], score-wise, in Noble difficulty), but it seems like it should be fun. How does it normally go? I mean... don't these games take like a good twenty hours? Do people just kind of leave and get replaced? I've never played online before outside of IP games...

Ah, heh, so that combat odds thing is a bug? I figured my luck just stinks.

Online games take 1-2hours. Quickspeed. People have tier 2 units (mages, rangers, swordsmen, etc) around turn 100, and tier 3 units (archmages, druids, champions, etc) around turn 120. We generally attack each other around turn 120 (~1 hour into the game), with the more advanced person (people) making the walk to enemy land(s).

I suggest having a basic defense/weak attack by turn ~80 (30-45minutes into the game), and a strong defense/assault team by turn ~115 (~1 hour into the game).

Our games are pretty much always over within 2 hours.

For practice, I recommend these settings:

Quickspeed
Tiny (3-4 players), low sea level
Hub (ismuth 1 wide, pressed neutral, solid hubs, flat map, balanced resources)
Advanced start (default points [3 cities+?])
No_barbs
No-Tech Trading
Unrestricted Leaders
No Tribal Villages
Blessing
Compact enforced
No Lairs
No Unique Features

Note that we do not like fighting with warriors and axemen. If we wanted to do that, we could play BTS and have 8 people for a
"FFA Blazing Pangea!" in 5 minutes on gamespy server. That's why turn 80-90 is the earliest attacking done, with most (80% of the time) no attacking until ~turn 110. (Hub with 1-wide ismuths helps discourage mundane (early) unit rushing in general)
