I played 5 turns last night, and the invasion should launch next turn.
A quick interim report here. More details in the main report when I'm inished.
Charle should loose 5 cities on turn 1 of the war, the rest should go by turn 3 or 4 I think.
Persuaded Liz to give us a free musical to help with happy problems.
Had to drop Sci to 50%.
Used a GSci for a GA.
got 16 marines ready to take over coastal cities.
Played two more turns tonight. HRE has two cities left, and most of the forces are regrouping to take Spain out.
I'm writing as I go, so the write up won't take long. In fact, I'll probably write up what we've got so far for tomorrow morning. Then we can comment while I take the next 7 turns.
We're going up to 1860, and we're going to start moving forces to their advanced positions. so turn 0 will be long
Looking at the happy problem: If we pick up radio, we can build rock and roll in about 6 turns, or Eifel tower in about 6 too. That's about 3 tanks each. Is that worth it ? I think so.
I think Liz is may be Rock and roll so I'm not sure.
England pipped us to the post with Broadway. But I ask her for a free musical, and she says yes
10 turns will probably have most of the rest of the continent wrapped up, and us ready to take Broadway anyway.
Interestingly, she has the Fission, so I wonder if she's going to go Nuclear...
We've still got 7 xbows and some other old, non CR units about, I'll get rid of those before the ships.
Humm. Horse Archers and Chariots could promote to helos with medic.... I've deleted some of the old crossbows, but not all yet.
The phants and cats at Giza go though.
It will cost 1900 to upgrade the 4 CR3 troops we have in giza, so I drop to 0%Sci for 1 turn.
The transports load up the infantry and do the first run across to England.
Humm. At Pithom we had 4 citizens, when we still had Gspy Slots.
War plan:
Augsburg must fall on turn 1 to take out his main navy. So, 1 BS , and 2 Dest will take down defences. A couple of Artils to soften things up, then at least 12 troops to take the city. Bring along 16 to be sure. (4 transports)
Take out the 3 frigates (3 dest)
We'll put 8 infantry, 2 Mgs and 4 artils south of Saxon.
Aachen needs 4dest to take down defences, then a couple of sicide artils, then at least 6 troops. Maybe 8 tanks here ? No, lets builds Marines. (3-4 turns should have 8)
We'll put some tanks 2SW of Vienna and 1W of Mainz. We should take all these cities on turn 1.
If I get time, I'll put some tanks 2SE of Florance too.
Turn 1: 1846AD.
Charle wants to swap some iron for oil. No chance mate.
Spoiler:
Charle starts a golden age. Pitty it won't help him...
I land the first load of troops at Augsburg. "No Charle, nothing to worry about. Just military exercises" and splilt them up to go to the various forward muster points.
I'm not sure we'll have enough to take aachen too. The naval city is target #1 and must fall to prevent his navy putting to see. It's not powerful, but it is large.
Turn 2: 1847
Move more troops to Elephantine.
Transports back to ship tanks over to muster points.
We want a few workers and corp-execs ready to muster outside Elphantine too for the consolodation phase.
Spread Mining to Athens, had to drop the tech slider down to 50%
For some reason I can't put the fighter in the 2nd ACC into intercept mode. But, once i move it to a different acc, I can. Strange.
Turn 3: 1848
Montie's demanding I cancel deals with Liz.
No way mate.
I queue up some missionaries for our new cities too in Memphis.
Troops nearly in position now. The transports just need to come back to grab the marines. We can put some tanks 2NW of Nuremberg too.
I think he'll be down to 3 cities after turn 1!
turn 4: 1849
Darius wants us to cancel deals with HRE. Sorry mate, we'd like to but... there's these military exercises going on see.
I've signed a new staging area 3S1W of Elephantine. It's 1 move closer to the conquest area.
We got A GSci too. at Thebes. Not sure what to do with him. A golden age could be good about now. It takes a turn off plastics
turn 5: 1850
Slot a few supermarkets in this turn.
And start building up our eastern fleet. Just incase those sneaky French try something
Looking at the northern canal idea. It looks like forts have to be in our cultural borders to do anything.
So I found El-Ashmuein.
A smoke with muster points adds 1 more turn before we can declare war. And I've forgottern to send the medic unit with them.
A battle ship is tracking Charle's frigate.
Turn 6: 1851
Plastics in. Use the GE to take 5 turns of the 3 gorges damn. We do have some happy problems. Radio next, hopefully get rock and roll.
Time for War charle boy.
[spolier]
[/spolier]
OK. I've miss judged the %age defence.
we bombard augsberg down to 48%, but the screen say 28% what's going on here ? And then I remember there's a spy there, so we revolt the city for 1 turn.
Spoiler:
Suicide 1 artilary, then barage/CR tanks take the main defenders out.
need a boat of marines too. then the infantry mop up
then it falls to us
Spoiler:
Ships and fighters drop the defenses of Aachen to 0
two artilaries die, then tanks and marines take the city.
Spoiler:
Bomb Mizo (or something like that, I can't open the message log any more) Loose one artil then clean up with infantry. It burns.
Spoiler:
We got another GG too. He's asleep in Amsterdam if I don't remember what I did with him.
Saxon: Loose one CR3 artillery. Infantry take out the rest of the defenders.
Spoiler:
We got the Parthanon there too. so more GPps
I guess it was optimistic thinking 3 tanks could take out 2 riflemen and 1 archer in a city. Next turn Florence will fall though.
The hills outside of Nuremberg stop us taking that too.
And I don't think I can take Viena without some air or artillery support.
so the tanks mop up the troops outside of the city.
tanks vs Knights !!
Spoiler:
lol
So, 4 cities down on turn 1.
Now to check what Izzy's up to.
Not a lot.
Set 10% culture to keep the citizens happy and productive. In about 15 turns, we'll have wine from our new cities, so that should help. (that's one of the things that bugs me about civ. Food is easy to move around and grow in other parts of the world...)
I can't see anything much for our workers to do, so I set them to sleep in regional centers.
Some near eElphantine, and some near Athens.
Pheww. A long turn.
Turn 7: 1852
Izzy moves her troops around pointlessly
A spy causes problems in saxon. We loose the forge.
!! WW is causing us -5 unhappy already We may need to drop into police state too.
I add a few jails in the build queues.
I'm keeping a few tanks in our cities now, incase there's any sneaky landings I'm not expecting.
Prague: Loose one tank, marines take the rest.
Spoiler:
(Well, the medic takes out the cats for the XP)
Marines onto Swordsmen. Don't you just love it
Nuremberg: loose two tanks, but due to blitz, we take it.
Florence burns too. No losses this turn.
Spoiler:
After the airships soften up Vienna, CR2/barage tanks finish it. Loose 1.
A transport of spare marines and a couple of destroyers take out Pisa.
Spoiler:
So, he's down to 2 cities. Probably a couple of turns to get those.
He seems to be a little cross with is, but still won't talk of capitulation. Ahh well we didn't want to anyway.
He left a GG running around un-escorted too. Shame they don't become ours.
It's looking good Simon. Nice warring! HRE is pretty much toast.
I wonder if Darius will give us war vs HRE or Spain for cheap now, thereby voiding his defensive pact with Hammurabi, making it less of a world war when we invade him.
CdG has a galley snooping around the vacant land in the north. I'm pondering DoW on him which will bring things to a head. Then we'll need the navy pratrolling CdG east coast sinking anything that leaves port.
From the report, the war seems to be going swimmingly.
We would be smart to build jails in any city that is 15 pop or larger. Hopefully we can finish rivals off quickly enough to avoid the switch to police state.
I probably would've saved the golden age for after some of charlie's cities come out of revolt (or even after the continent had been conquered). Generally it's better to use golden ages when not in war, as the WW unhappiness and newly captured cities in revolt mitigate the benefits.
I wouldn't worry about CdG settling in the open spaces. He would have to bring a significant garrison over by ship in order to make it anything more than a mild nuisance to capture or raze his new cities. It's your call though, we have the production and power to declare on the entire world and not fear much of anything.
Hmm... yeah, didn't catch the GA thing. It definitely would've been best to save it until we aren't in war. But seeing as we're probably going to be in a war a lot, it might have been better to build an academy. Doesn't matter though, as steamrolling is in order anyways.
The sleeping GG can be settled in one of our production centers. Or made into a Military Academy in one of those centers, either is good. We have no need for attached GG anymore.
We pop a Gmerchant. Time for refrigeration then Sids Sushi I guess. (If we can afford it) I send him to memphis anyway.
Healthy Troops are converging on Zapotec, and the spy to Ulm
Troops needing healing are heading towards Tarsus, Izzy's main force are in Salamanca, Quite a stack. so we should be able to bombard them quite well there.
A couple of minor skirmishes.
turn 9: 1854
Two damaged tanks get taken out by Charle's riflemen. And there are some wariors running around !!
Loose one artil when taking Zapotec. Ships to take down defence, plains to damage top troops, and artil to do some colateral damage before the drill tanks and marines going in. it falls.
Spoiler:
WW is killing us. I think we can just avoid police state.
The good news is the northern canal is now open.
Turn 10: 1855
Umm defences are down to 0, and the troops there under aerial bombardment. Shame there's nothing close enough to take it this turn.
Charle was trying to pull a mini stack back into Umm, but I take it out in the field. Looks like CdG is about to roach over the north of charle's lands. Wondering weather to declare on him too to keep him off the island...
We need police state to stop loosing population due to WW. :-(
I do the switch and things look a lot more manageable.
Liz has rock and roll. So I swap Aluminum for a Hit single and wine. (if we asked for it and got it, it would be a new 10 turn piece treaty. Swap sugar for rice too.
there's a stupid amount of overflow at Amsterdam, So I build an airport there.
So, I push science up to 70%, (-230/turn) Radio in 4 for bombers and Eiffel tower.
Turn 11: 1856
Artils, fighters, infantry and tanks take down Ulm with no losses.
troops start heading south to stage in Tarus.
Turn 12: 1857
OK. Radio + Bombers are due in 3. We can use 8 bombers so that will take us about 1 turn to produce.
So, I think we move the troops back to Augburg to save on maintenance. then move them back in a few turns time.
Turn 13: 1858
The three gorges damn is in now. So our already stupid production got more stupid.
Spoiler:
there's 4 tanks in the north pillaging the old towns giving us some cash.
We've a bunch of spies now making their way to Spain's cities.
Anything we can't get bombers or ships to, we use spies.
Radio in. research dialed back down to 60%. (-28)
Medicine in 6. (Sushi anyone ?)
At the moment, Izzy's troops in Salamanca are getting bombed by fighters every turn. She's got a lot there though.
While I'm thinkg about it, I sell Sugar to CdG for 21gpt.
And pigs to monty for 6
And corn to Hammy for 21
(More money than sense, the lot of them )
Turn 14: 1859
Lots of bombers roll off the production lines. we've 8 in theater now.
Lots of Izzy's troops move around for no reason.
CdG starts trying to throw his weight around. Sorry mate, there's a war on you know. !!
Spoiler:
Liz will have industrialism next turn, so I dial up some anti-tank troops. Best to have a few in the bag as it were.
We have around 15 cities where we can build just about anything in 1 turn !! Scary.
Turn 15: 1850.
Lol there's a vote for the AP. And it's just us in it.
Time to take on Izzy's main force.
Spoiler:
I check the log to see which battleship got damaged from an airship, and it crashed again, so I missed the rest of the IBT.
Bombers go in. (lots of collateral damage)
Tanks go in next. Our CR1/barage tanks area already at 99% !!
Lost one tank attacking from a transport at 90% !! Sheesh. 9 times out of 10 that would have worked fine
Not enough tanks to take it on turn 1. Maybe I should have put the marines in the boats Doh.
I've sent 5 empty boats over to pick up the marines so we can make shorter work of the junk cities. Bombers + marines should take them quickly.
Artils soften up Santiago too. Take out a couple of defenders, but not enough to take it.
I've signed up the two airports we've built so far. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm always forgetting where I put them...
I'll get the mining execs and missionaries to stage at these locations.
A quick look at france, shows he has some cities defended by longbows and axes. !!
I've queued up a couple of spies to put onto subs to send over there. See what's what.
There are spies in England now too, maybe we can steel fusion eventually.
Hammy and Monty seem ready for war. Take a look at this.
Spoiler:
Blimy. Izzy is optimistic isn't she ? She's facing complete destruction in about 5 turns, and she has Barcelona building the Apollo program !!
Spoiler:
And, that's about it. Take a good look round on turn 0. I think there's still some moving around etc.
Sorry it took so long !!
We need to plan how to crack open England after rolling over Persia. England has quite a few infantry about the place. Now, obviously we can just use huge numbers and roll over here. But, to aid the learning of us and any lurkers, I think we should try to plan it to take her with minimum loss to ourselves. So, if we need some air-base cities, build them. If we need particular troop combinations build them. She doesn't have flight yet, so we should be able to dominate the air. Once she does, it will be trickier.
Charle's old cities will come out of revolt in a turn or two, so keep an eye on them and their costs.
Don't be afrade to sell an tech that someone is just about to complete if the money is right.
There's a GG and a GM asleep somewhere. GM for sushi I think. Not sure what to do with the GG
Roster.

Remember, we're in our modern war eara now. We want some detailed posts. Don't worry if to goes over the 48 hour play (but let us know that you're playing) The 24hr "got it" deadline stays though.
Lets try to discuss any mistakes, as well as advice we have for the war.
My s
I should have left the marines on the boats to take the sothern spanish cities. And had some more troops ready to take Santiago. Would easily have shaved off 1 turn of the war.
In the north, I should have had more tanks spread out better to take things down quicker. Saving us 1 turn of the war there would have meant we didn't need the switch into Police State. Fortunately as Spiritual it wasn't a big deal.
And, I've got no real goal for the builds going on at home. They finish so quickly it's a huge effort to go through the cities setting what troops we want in 5 turns time. (the time it takes to get into theater.)
Barcelona contains the Hanging Gardens, as well as Shwedagon Paya. Madrid has Angkor Wat, Chichen Itza, and the Church.
We appear to have all the health resources on the map already (someone check to make sure), so Barcelona might be worth keeping. I'm not really keen on Madrid though. It does net us 16 gold from the Church, and a bunch of settled Great Prophets...
They are both quite far away from Saxon though, and so is Santiago come to think of it.
I think I said keep everything EXCEPT Ecbatana. Ecbatana is garbage because of too much desert and water, but all Darius' other cities have lots of cottages.
I also notice that Liz has made some new cities (i.e. Warwick, Newcastle). These can burn, as they are built in farmland and such.
Love that we're using Darius' cities as airbases to attack Izzy . Who's next, Darius or Liz?
Darius next I think. He should be no threat at all. Then Liz. If we were being logical about it, Liz before she gets many tanks about. But, we want some modern opposition so lets take Darius first.
Oh yeah, I think Mighty Dwarf posted earlier that he couldn't play anymore... First post on Page 17 or something.
EDIT: As for the Great General... Settle him in one of those cities that is making 7XP units. Amsterdam already gets 11XP, so you'd need 3 GG to get to 17. Alternatively, a military academy somewhere would probably help (although I prefer the XP).
EDIT2: Someone must've been using BUG mod, now that I think of it. I've read that it makes the event log crash at times. And it's been crashing like nuts for me (I just don't click it anymore).
As for builds in our homeland, jails would be smart if we still lack them, followed by hospitals and airports (if healthy enough). Other than that, we can gear up our navy on the east coast to prepare for the eventual invasion of CdG and cities like Amsterdam should build units non-stop (mostly tanks).
I'm not so sure about Sids sushi corp. I don't think that we really need the extra pop, and until we get recycling centers we won't be able to handle the unhealthyness caused by the massive extra population.
I don't have time to check the save right now, but I'll do so later this evening and try to throw out some more specific comments.
Edit: One more thing... Be careful about basing aircraft in an ally's cities. If one of our enemies has OB with them too, then they can destroy our planes by merely walking a unit into the city tile. To prevent this, leave one or two units in the city to protect the aircraft from insta-burn.
Our bigger cities got jails in an attempt to avoid Police State (and failed) so they probably all have them now.
Their are two airports built, we may need a few more.
Hospitals will boost health.
Is there a need to handle the extra unhealth, or doesn't it just find it's natural limit ? a city of 18 at stagnet but healthy is still not as good as a city of 24 with 5 unhealthy points. Or, am I missing something else ?
I was more bothered about the money it would cost.
As for buildup on CdG invasion. We could do with subs now, and some anti-tank. But I think there's a good chance infantry will be obsolete by the time we get there.
Marines will always be a good bet though, and a couple more carrier battle groups. (two carriers, 2 dest, 1 battleship I guess)
Madtown makes a good point. Sushi is not going to be worth it if we're just increasing unhealthiness and burning that food to combat it. Also, we're at the happy cap in many cities, so the extra pop really will be useless.
If we can do a smart spread of Sushi though, to the remote cities that still have lots of happiness and healthiness to go, it might be worth our while, and that way it won't burn money feeding unhealthiness.
Wise advice about basing in foreign cities, but luckily, Izzy is not on good terms with Darius, so has no open borders with him (but she DOES have open borders with Liz, so don't base anything there).
At this point, a jail in every city means we can war indefinitely, which is fine. A quick run down of cities that still need Jails: Asyut, Avaris (actually Avaris will never get big enough to NEED a jail...), Lisht, Bursis, Kahun, Mendes, El-Ashmunein, and all our new HRE acquisitions. Out of those, the most important are Asyut, Lisht, and the HRE cities, because they will eventually need one.
One more thing. We've got cities like Navajo, Amsterdam, and Elephantine which are pissed purely due to being crowded. We need Mosques there (one is already going up in Elephantine). That also suggests that it might be a good idea to spread the other 4 religions on the Spanish continent back to our home turf and build temples for the extra happy (obviously we'd want to keep holy cities then).
And Quotey, be careful, because it appears that the destroyer stack by Susa is not on top of the carriers near there, and they have basically no defenders.
