SCOTUS Nomination II: I Like Beer

Can't people defend themselves against false accusations too?

How do they prepare the defense ahead of time? Do you think Kavanaugh got together with his handlers and said "Hey, we should be ready for a girl from Yale to come forward with a false accusation that I waved my junk in her face" just out of the blue? Had a premonition?

If Kavanaugh is guilty, which is definitely a possibility, then I'll gladly throw the first stone. I admit not having followed this very closely, but it doesn't seem to me like his guilt has been properly established.

It is hard to establish guilt in the minds of people who are willing to reject clear evidence of guilt.

If you haven't been following it closely, how did you reach the conclusion that guilt has been properly established?

I do not think Kavanaugh will make it through the nomination process. He will be withdrawn by Trump as soon as the FBI report drops.

They'll move on to the next stooge and ram him through even faster than they have tried to move with Kavanaugh.

I'm kind of curious where this tactic is coming from. This is the third, or maybe fourth Kavanaugh supporter to use "I haven't been following this closely, but...."

This would be forgivable if @metalhead hadn't given you a nice recap on the specific subject we're talking about.
Which post is that? The one where he said that the accusations themselves are technically evidence?
Let's put aside the issue of whether he is guilty of the accusations. Given all of the lies he stated under oath and the tenor of his testimony (accusing the democrats of being out to get him, it's all a Clinton conspiracy, he's going to get even with the Democrats, etc), how can you still support him as a judge on the supreme court?
Well, how do we know if this is a conspiratorial witch-hunt? Personally, I'd like to look at the evidence

Maybe he made enemies with some people in Yale? Maybe he had political disagreements with her, and maybe he thought she'd go so low as to lie whenever it's convenient? I don't know

As far as I know, it hasn't been properly established. I could be wrong though, which is why I was asking for proof. Hobbsyoyo tells me that you had a summary of all the evidence against Kavanaugh. Is it a post in this thread? I can't seem to find it

Kavanaugh supporter? Me? Really? I suspect that I disagree with Kavanaugh on most issues

Don't know if any of you caught this but yesterday when Trump answered questions about Kavanaugh he said Kavanaugh admitted to having a past drinking problem during his testimony. That certainly did not happen. I'm not sure why he said that other than he doesn't actually know what Kavanaugh said but realized he does in fact have a past history of alcohol abuse and mixed up his narratives.

I don't know
And yet you're so damn sure of yourself.

Yeah, forgive me for not trawling through all 100+ pages, as I do not really care that much.

If you don't care, why are you participating?

Serious question. You don't care enough to educate yourself, you don't care enough to pull on any loose threads, but you care enough to vehemently rally to his cause even though you "probably disagree with him on most things"? With no information? Just, here's a man being accused of a few terrible things. He isn't in chains, so it's all lies. Therefore, Kavanaugh #1! Kavanaugh #1! Kavanaugh #1!

This is pointless. If you want to contribute, you can do so honestly.

I think they are going to take it to a vote. He goes down on a democrat and RINOs evil obstructionists sword and the base is driven to the polls to provide Trump the backing he needs to get things done.

I could see that happening too.

They were discussing the polls on PBS Newshour yesterday and it appears this episode has dampened the hard-on that the Republican base has for SCOTUS appointments while energizing the Democrats on the subject. Here's hoping the Democrats stay pumped and the Republicans stay deflated on this issue.

Weird how this pattern seems to be emerging
I wonder whether there has been a single public rape case in the history of the internet where some random man didn't feel the need to say "I haven't been following this closely but I'm pretty sure it's all lies"

Can't people defend themselves against false accusations too?

What, false accusations that they somehow knew ahead of time would be made? How utterly stupid do you have to be to believe that?

I have made some enemies....some are evil democrats who might lie about me....what sort of random attack might they dream up....I predict....it will be a claim that I waved my junk in her face.

So far I have not heard that he prepared to counter Ford's testimony before she came out publicly, only that he prepared to counter the penis-waving allegation.

This can support the notion that Ford's allegations are all made up or it could support the notion that he was blacked out and really doesn't recall doing this to her. At this point, which of those two narratives is more likely to be true?

And yet you're so damn sure of yourself.
And how is that? I've stated many times that I don't know the details of this case, and that I'd like to see the evidence.

I don't care enough to read all 100+ pages. I'd simply like to get past all the bipartisan mudslinging and look at the evidence myself. That's why I asked for it.

Or it could support the notion that unlike Ramirez, who didn't have the decency to drop completely out of his life so he could just forget about abusing her, Ford did. Not, forgot because he was blacked out, just forgot because he figured there hadn't been any consequences so there never would be. I'm kind of guessing that the dick waving as a freshman at Yale was his wake up call that he was no longer dealing with high school girls that he could pretend would never amount to anything that could threaten him. Ramirez might have been poor and having to work, but she was going to Yale. People probably told him "she is going to be a lawyer someday and that little salute might cost you."

He must be one of those, if there aren't pics it didn't happen.

We've got that. The part we don't understand is why you then shut your eyes so you couldn't see what you asked to look at.
You see how these kinds of accusations against Kavanaugh could be used for political gain, right? You understand that, yes? As for the evidence itself, there's what? Supposed inconsistencies in his story? Ok then

He must be one of those, if there aren't pics it didn't happen.
Yeah well forgive me if I'm not ready to convict a man with no evidence

No one is convicting Kavanaugh. He is not on trial. This is a job interview. One which he blustered, lied and shouted his way through.

Which is why most men get away with it.

Yeah for me, it's everything else that disqualifies him regardless of the accusation. Which I'm inclined to believe anyway.
