Where do you get these names from? Wickwar is the name of a village in the same county as me, but I can't imagine that you've pulled up a map of the Cotswolds and randomly picked one of the names from it.

The game generates all the city names when the game starts in 1850. IIRC you can pick either an European set of city names and accompanying texture/model set or American.

I picked Wickwar as my main city because it was a bit central, by the river, but mainly it had some of the biggest cities on the map nearby. Wickwar was a pretty small city itself at first, but quickly grew into a regional hub as I started connecting it to the biggest cities on the map

My company also now subsidises a fleet of "very fast planes" connecting Wickwar to (so far) 2 of the corners of the map

These planes were pulling in 2.5 mill a year each until all the train lines converted to high speed. Now my airline loses about 8 mill a year overall. Ah well, just one of my train lines now pulls in 15-25 mill a year, so this luxury airline can be subsidised by the rest of the company. I've also upgraded all LRT lines on the map to the most modern vehicles, which is draining even more money there, but just a drop in the bucket compared to the high speed rail income.

Wickwar's central train station has 3 unused platforms left (each line gets its own platform). At some point I was going to make at least 2 of those a truly high speed line with super straight track, connecting to cities further away. Maybe that'll be the next project. Good thing it's a long weekend and I actually have a lot of free time

Here's the 'real' Wickwar for comparison. :)

Interesting, when I look at it in google maps it looks like there are rail lines running to the city, but they cut off and there is no station? I'm guessing there used to be a station but at some point taken out? Or is the map data just that bad

Right in the heading of the article: The village is on the main BristolBirmingham railway line, and once had a station, but this closed in January 1965. To the south, the line passes through a tunnel 1,401 yards (1,281 m) long. Wickwar also lies near to the source of the Little Avon River, which rises in woodland to the east. :)

Detroit and Kingston begging for action as they look on from the sidelines

edit: A solution to my LRT problems! A mod that turns roads into grass where cars can't go

but trams can

Reagan declared war. Didn't defend Mexico, tried to attack Vietnam and failed. And for that much of the contiguous United States was overrun by Soviet operational maneuver groups. And the final humiliation is getting wiped out by a captured nuclear missile.

What are you guys using as screen capture programs these days? I used to use FS Screen but it no longer works. The Steam screenshot feature only works if you have overlay enabled and I tend to disable that these days for performance (or the game simply doesn't work with it on).

I just use steam's F12, except for Kerbal Space Program, since for whatever reason it's the only game I play that also has something else set up for that key.

I didn't even know you can disable the overlay. Does it make a big difference?

Not a huge amount, admittedly. It usually only plays a big part if the game explicitly doesn't do well with overlays (i.e. the devs themselves recommend disabling Steam overlay or Discord overlay).

Here is an early battle as Pythium, the Emerald Empire, with a large-ish army trying to defeat an army guarding a Throne of Ascension (you need to control a certain number of throne provinces to win.) The Throne was guarded by some Blood Mages and Foul Spawn - the misshapen results of cross-breeding attempts.

A large mid-game battle where my legions are facing off against the giants of Phlegra. I have a strong front line of Emerald Guards and Principes, backed up by Serpent Cataphracts on the flanks (along with a contingent of levied heavy cavalry). The purple blob in the center behind my front lines are my mages - Arch Theurgs, Theurgs, and Theurg Communicants- preparing to enter into one of Pythium's signature features - very powerful Communions that boost the strength of your mages and reduce their fatigue from spellcasting in exchange for some of the weaker mages (Theurg Communicants in my case) being unable to cast spells.

One of my Arch Theurgs cast "Light of the Northern Star" which boosts the Astral magic path of all my mages, permitting my normal Theurgs to spam out Stellar Cascade. Individually it isn't that strong of a spell and just fatigues the enemy, but when they get their paths boosted and can shed fatigue through a communion it can quickly become nasty when spammed out. (When a unit reaches 100 fatigue is passes out and cannot take any actions or defend itself.)

And here we see that although the tyrannical giants of Phlegra reached my lines, thanks to the Stellar Cascade spam, their lines got strung out and their front line giants got fatigued out. Even though my legions are good, they are just normal humans and the Phlegran giants are nasty pieces of work if they can connect. My heavy cavalry and Serpent Cataphracts move in on the flanks and will soon prompt a mass rout. In this battle, I lost about 200 gold worth of units -all easily replaced. Phlegra lost close to 1,700 gold worth of units along with a fair number of magical gems they used to summon various monsters, like the cave drakes and scorpion beasts.

How do "snake cataphracts" work? I mean the rider is even lower on the ground than one who isn't riding anything. Are they at least faster than unmounted troops? ^_^

Serpent Cataphracts are slower than heavy cavalry but faster than human infantry. Their big advantage is that if the rider is killed, the mount will keep on fighting, and has some rather nasty attacks. Unfortunately, Serpent Cataphracts are overpriced, but still fun to use and provide a valuable flanking force for Pythium as they otherwise lack recruitable flankers and their light infantry are not very good on the attack.

I dont know whether to be ashamed that he seems to have gotten stuck..or amazed that he managed to get it stuck in a place that looks like there is no way that make sense for him to have gotten there in the first place.
