Great job with the tanks, I would've added a load of 'walking stukas' for extra giggles :)

Daftpanzer was finally killed in action on Iwo Jima. After capturing Mount Suribachi single-handed, he was shot in the face by a Japanese sniper panzershreck, fired from over a mile away.

Have you given Forgotten Hope for BF1942 a wirl?

Stukas are very rarely brought when fighting against human players since they cost so much and really require at least vet2 to be worthwhile.

Though I really should have bought a halftrack to reinforce from.

Yikes does that server really take over two minutes to respawn? o.O

I could see myself losing interest and alt-tabbing to a browser if I had to look at my corpse that long :)

I'm totally out of touch with mods. For some reason I thought Forgotten Hope was a mod focused on the east front only, but now I've looked it up and will definately get it once I've got a decent connection. Forgotten Hope 2 also looks interesting!

They seem very effective vs the AI, especially when the AI crowds all its troops in bottleneck areas :) And I like to use them en-mass against enemy HQ's for the finale.

Yeah it was my own server, with no other players except me, just so I get custom botmatch and map list. I set the respawn time really high because I don't like continual waves of bots spawning at the last few command points. The bots seem to ignore the respawn times though!

EDIT:

Exploring San Andreas' netherworld of hidden interiors and ghost locales for the first time. After accessing it in Ganton (using a jetpack to go through the roof of the gym there), I float around in a vast void of blackness for a while until I splash into...grey stuff.

weirdness002.jpg

I see a crane, of all things, in the distance, and float toward it. Nothing happens when I enter the red event triggers. It appears to be a version of San Fierro's dock crane.

...which is appropriately near a version of the railroad station and CJ's garage.

weirndess004.jpg

I land near the "garage" and walk into one of the sheds that the user can store cars in. I hit "enter" out of curiosity and my player exits the jetpack and gets into a ghost-car: a Saber, which is interesting because I have a white Saber in that garage. CJ can also get into my ghost-Bullet, also in that garage.

weirndess005.jpg

Going to take my ghost-car down the ghost-highway into ghost-San Fierro for a ghost-night on the town. The radio works, and I listen to K-Jah.

weirdness005.jpg

I run out of graphics shortly, and start bumping into things.

A few minutes later, I plant some explosives on the ghost-freeway ramp to see what happens when I die. After the screen fades to black, the game stops responding. I had to bring up the task manager.

I have machine guns, (relatively) accurate artillery, a semblance of battlefield medicine, and poison gas. They have hordes of poorly trained and equipped men.

260,000 casualties is right up there! The deadliest ever, assuming those ancient far eastern wars have been overhyped: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_battles_by_casualties. One wonders about the psychological impact of 1/4 million wounded russians lying around the Estonian countryside.

@Smellincoffee, you got into this dimension by going upwards? I'd have thought the map designers would've left any junk stuff hidden deep underground. I guess something weirder is going on? I love those ghost cars! Can you commit crimes in that realm and do police appear?

After playing Civ on and off since about 1996 I've finally completed a non-scenario game without getting bored and using cheats.

Domination victory in Civ4BTS! Almost had diplomatic and space victories too. Conquest wasn't far off either.

Chieftain? No wonder you were getting bored before.:p
Though it is a problem with Civ that most games stop being competitive long before you have officially won them. I end up abandoning lots of games because of this as well.

I hadn't really played more than maybe a total of several hours of Civ4 before so I wanted to be able to learn the game without the AI breathing down my neck. And that is also why I chose a smaller than default world with only 4 other civs.

Well, I went up from my initial point, which was the interior of a gym. The gym's interior could be deep 'underground': to get inside the gym the player walks into a yellow marker, and the marker sort of teleports the player into the gym's interior.

As for crimes, I don't think so: there's no one to commit crimes AGAINST. I suppose I could test it by chucking grenades...

The weird thing is, I don't think I'm in the netherworld proper: according to my instructions, I'm supposed to ascend out of the gym, and then go two blocks west until I see a yellow marker, which will transport me into "heaven" where I can float around visiting hidden interiors.

I have no idea what this ghost-San Fierro is.

Anyone else been playing APB? server just went down, website been destroyed, yesterday they said a new patch was coming out. Supposed to be an MMO didn't last 3 months. Lasted 2 months 17 days I think, feel sorry for the guy who I was teamed up who had just bought it.

Spoiler :

Yeah I'm real bummed about APB. :( I really wanted it to succeed too and I put so much work into my police cars.
