[SDK] Dale's Combat Mod!

Announcement!

Firstly, thanks everyone for your help in finding these bugs. It's been greatly helpful with the save games etc. :)

To that end, I think we might have a winner! :D

Beta 3.3 is now uploaded. I played with this DLL file into the medieval era with no bugs, freezes, etc. So all good thus far.

Have a play with this one and see if you can kill it. ;)

BTW, if we can go 2 weeks with no bugs I'll call it the release version. :)

wow :eek: 2 weeks of playing civ4 I'll take that challange don't think the mrs will :mischief: but it's for a good cause :thumbsup:

Well i think its safe to say the "waiting for other civilizations" bug has gone:goodjob: I downloaded your 3.3 beta and loaded my saved games that all had the same problem :sad: and it runs fine up to and past where the bug/bugs were, where as it wouldn't before:thumbsup:
 
Lucky you didn't have nukes set under MAD doing that. I changed the save file generation. ;)

But glad to hear it's gone through now. :)

Just played another game as Ghandi up to 1000AD. The mod is rock solid I'm pleased to say! :D

It was interesting to watch the AI hitting my sword/archer stacks with axes/archer combos. Really made a mess of things we did.

War started fast (as all wars do with the AI) but the stack attacking made it harder to get into the heartlands. Basically the war stalled on the inner sanctum of Mao's cities.

Sure is a lot harder to wage war against the AI now. :)

EDIT: The look on my face musta been priceless when I watched three archers in the capital fend off two stacks of sword/archers. ;)

I'll agree with that. I've tried almost everything to kill it. i'm in and out of worldbuilder giving myself alsorts of units to stack and try the AI really does make full use of this mod I love it. well done Dale mate you've made one hell of a mod it's put the excitement back into the game that was missing from the vanilla. you have my vote for best mod:trophy: :woohoo:
 
I think that I have found a bug in your mod,
This is save game - i did nothing in options so it should be palying like vanilla civ.
You should only end my turn.

Hi Dale i've found a problem but i'm not sure if its your mod anyways washington asked me for rifling so i gave it to him but when i ended my turn it came up civi4 has encounterd a problem and needs to close so i reloaded my saved game and before he asked me for it i gave it him and the same happend again. I've got my logs, i can keep playing but i'm going to get -points for not helping :( (mod v3.3)

nope can't keep playing because washington then researches it and then it comes up with the encounterd a problem thingy
 
Tsu Chi has definitely found a bug. Now to work out what caused it.

Boneys, I can't recreate the rifling thing (didn't crash on my system). Try this: take my DLL file out of the folder so it's using the vanilla one. Does the crash still occur? If yes, then it's something with your mods.

Lol, been playing most of the day dale i got to 10bc and it encounterd a problem again, but when i play the vanilla without dcm i'm up to 760ad without any problems:confused: i have no idea why i'm getting the problem with the mod running,:confused: :twitch: :badcomp:

could it be i'm missing something?
I downloaded your mod and replaced your CIV4UnitInfos with mine (all your tags added to each unit that you tagged + my added units, right tags on the right units checked enough times now lol) I just don't get it mate the game runs fine. and your mod runs fine too upto the low bc's then i get the crash, If you have any ideas i'll try them out:(
could it be that i have my CIV4UnitInfos in your mod folder aswell as my custom assets?

EDIT nope it's not that. I could send you my civi "my games" folder so you can play my game with my units and see whats up with it but its 67.4mb's so i'll have to use civi's "yousend" thingy if your ok with it then pm me with your email addy so i can send it.

on the up side tho this mod kicks ass

I've asked thunderfall to give it a notice on the main page too, His reply was "hes been working on the mod for a while now and it looks good, I'll be happy to put it on the main page as soon as its out of the beta stage":D
 
Sorry Dale, game crashed in 550 AD :(

On top of that, my worker and GP were killed when defending in a city (3 swordsmen attacked my 4 archers, behind city walls)... is that intentional? I mean - are they included in the stack or is there a chance that non-combat units can be killed during a fight?

It's a great mod anyway, I have one proposal though - is it possible to remove the announcements ("Your archer was killed by a American swordsman etc.") during a battle? I can see the results right away and do not need to wait for the messages to appear.
 
Okay, I've just isolated this (thanks to Tsu Chi's save file) but there is an issue when the AI has a worker, settler or GP in the attacking stack's tile. I'm currently working on a way to fix this.

If you have a save which is stalled in an AI turn, reload it, go into WB before ending turn, and look for a battle with an AI non-combat unit involved. Either move it out of the battle or delete it or whatever. Just get it out of the battle. Let me know if that works (worked on Tsu Chi's file which had a Russian settler in the city the mongols axe+archer stack is sitting next to in the right-centre of map).

Some good news though, I've fixed the movement after battle thing (where sometimes the defender moved, or the attackers didn't move into the empty tile) as well as speeding up the initial start of combat. Also, I've sped up AI vs AI combat (no animations run for them now) which helps to elleviate the delay in some AI turns.

Any chance of trying with just my units file and none of your units in? I've had no crashes, and no one else on other sites has reported a crash. In fact, some of them are almost up to nukes in their games. Also, try a new game but have task manager running in the backup, and when it crashes check the memory usage and see if it spiked or rose gradually or was even throughout play. This'll help to track down a memory leak if there is one.

By "crash" do you mean the cursor timer spins with "Waiting for other civs" flashing on screen? That's a freezeup in an AI turn (see my post above on what to do).

funny you said that dale i have started a game with just your units:D but i'm not playing it again till tomorrow :( I'm trying to sort out a laptop i was given by my sister i just hope that plays civ4 when i've sorted it;) think i may have a problem with the intergrated graphics while playing civ4, but any ways back on topic I'll let you know what the out come of the game is in a day or 2 mate:goodjob:
 
Hi dale, crashed again - out of civ totally.

The English and Huyan Cupac are at war but couldn't see the battle, so went into world builder and put them at peace. still crashed.

Here's the last save.

I am enjoying the mod though, it's bl**Dy tough to take cities.

I found a bug, here's the savegame.
Game completly crashes, out of civ. Just end the turn.
 
This may be a little of topic. But are you going to be converting this mod over to Warlords at all Dale?
