I'll propose a new unique technology, called "Reaganomics". It replaces Economics for the Americans, and causes you to lose your entire treasury upon discovery, and the game's inflation rate doubles. Otherwise, it functions just like the original.

So recession would just be when you have - in a turn? Even when your sliders are up to 100%? Perhaps a slightly more sophisticated system, taking into account the sliders. Possibly a recession could be when you have - and your sliders are less than 50%?

As an alternative, Rhye's mod has a Depression event that affects Free Market economies with vast imbalances between your amount of hammers produced and the amount of commerce you are generating. This idea might be a better way to determine whether or not the event should trigger.
