Secret panel can put Americans on kill list

I understand where you are coming from. I've had to argue this position to a number of otherwise reasonable and intelligent people in real life. But what this comes down to is doing what is right versus what is safe or convenient.
China oppressing its people is not right even if they think they are doing it for their own good.
The US killing suspected criminals with drone strikes is not right just because it might be difficult or costly to apprehend them.
And so on.

The only difference between you and me is that you want to stop this while I choose not to blame them. I chose not to blame them because I honestly can't say that I wouldn't have done the same thing if I was in their shoes.

Do I believe it is unfair to the Chinese or the people who are killed? Yes. Do I believe that those who do it are evil because of they did such things? Not really, because I can see why they would have made the decision to do that.

Do you think even a public panel should have the power to order the killing of American citizens without trial? Also, does American citizenship make a difference to you? (I mean this inquisitively.)

Ideally, sure, I'd like him brought to trial, just like how it would have been nice to bring Bin Laden to trial. During a war, that isn't always feasable...I doubt that this guy could have been brought into custody. During a war (and we are at war with the Taliabn), I don't think it is a major miscarriage of justice to take a guy out with a drone, rather than put more American lives at risk trying to arrest him.

I'd want that process to be public and open though, lest somebody think it's okay to apply this principle to say, a drug dealer or a mob boss....and just "off" them.
