It's not quite as bad as it sounds...
I share President Bush's hope that freedom will prosper in Iraq.

I agree with President Bush that freedom is the best way to deter war because free nations seldom attack one another.

I remain cautiously optimistic that the free election this month in Iraq will be a very important step toward reshaping the Middle East and countering the oppression and violence that has too often marked the history of the region.

However, as Americans we need to realize freedom is about more than elections.

...

It's time to ask, bluntly, whether self-government can work for people not operating within a Judeo-Christian worldview.
But it's still pretty bad.

So, CFCers, can any of you think of any countries that have successfully managed self-government and yet remained outside the Judeo-Christian worldview? ;)

India and Japan to name 2 if I understand the question correctly. Or does the wink mean this is a joke?

Turkey just to name one... and this is sheer stupidity considering the CHICOM's are doing pretty well.

The wink was just to distance myself from the views of this author, who obviously knows nothing of history.

Heck, the people who created the idea of a Republic sure as heck weren't genuflecting to a cross.

Some, occasionally, after they saw us doing it. Its not the form of government that is really of interest to me anyway, besides maybe a communist/fascist state any other government system can be part of the "judeo-christian" worldview, its the morals and ideas that bakc up the government (whether its a constitutional monarchy, republic or anything else, its the ideas that the people under the government hold that truly defines them)

Government alone cannot unite people, government can simply give them a base from which to run there own country, how they deal with the outside world, and world events is totally reliant on there "worldview"

Looking to "democracy" to unite the world is a fools errand. Democracies can and will fight wars, cause trouble, and be just as bad, it will simply be less often and far worse when it does happen (the only thing worse than 1 man in power with bad ideas, is the whole population in power with bad ideas...)

Keeping in mind that the US democracy was forged with a secular view in mind,
It makes me think that some people in that noble land have forgot a few vital ideals...

;)

If I read by skipping the even paragraphs I seem to agree. If I skip the odd ones it sounds absurd. Could it have been written like that on purpose :crazyeye:
