Sengir03 - The Orwellian State

I'd kill him off. OTOH, our reputation is probably terrible anyway, so that's nothing to care about.

Will try to look at the save shortly. Nice going in taking Nidaros + Birka. How many did we lose at Nidaros?

Yeah, the more I think of it, the less I like giving him ten turns to add more defenders at Haithabu.

Washington has enough on his hands right now. I'd rather move on Wang next, but it looks like we can't afford to send our troops south and leave ourselves vulnerable.

Question about religion: Can we adopt a religion once we control the holy city? Or do we have to actually found it ourselves? With only Islam left, the latter is probably impossible. And with Free Religion disallowed, we could end up spending the entire game in paganism.

I think I'm going to interpret that rule as: we can only follow a religion from which we own the holy city.

In true double speak, we MUST CONTROL the religion of the masses to allow it worship. Big Brother is the ONE and ONLY DEITY allowed TRUE DEVOTION.

The Proletariat, must be allowed their forms of Superstition and rituals.

How's the Religious situation forming up. Do we have an Alter for the Masses.

Wang need to Die next. Sitting Bull and Washington, are just going to be a pain, let Sitting Bull Poison Washington's water all the time.

Courthouses, are required, to maintain the public order, and give the Ministry of Truth access to Room 101 in all our cities.

Looked at Save, -6 Never seen that big a first impression negative negativity. OMFG!!!

Wang, needs to be taken out with Catapults and Maces, Might need a period of Consolidation.

I'd Advocate Taking out New York in a quick war against Washington, but take on him and we take on Sitting Bull effectively.

Wang will Quickly fall out as the Heathen Religion, Washington is constrained in cities, as is Sitting Bull in Quality of Cities. They'll be easy meat come Rifles and Cannons, or Muskets and Cannons.

Wang we need to Prune back, as he has the potential to run away now.

A period of consolidation of the new Viking lands, with some Sabre Rattling in the Direction of the Korean, will only set our Dominance.

Idea posed= Move the Capital to Uppsala long term. 4 resources, though 3 are silk, river side, and more central to our Overall empire. Babylon seems a bit of a back water now. Or even Nidaros as an ex AI capital, it has a lot going for it, once we eliminate New York.

PPP:

Babylon: Market
Akkad: scout boat, units, keep working scientists and stay at pop 5
Dur-Kur: whip galley, maybe use to make spies?
Uppsala: Units for happiness, market, possibly palace later
Nippur: units, Market
Vandal: scoutboat, units
Borsippa: ?
Nidaros: barracks
Birka: Monument

Trades: Currency for CoL from Washington
Aesthetics for Monotheism, Meditation, 135 gp from Wang

Take Haitbathu, which gets us Great Lighthouse. yay economy!

After Ragnar:

Option 1: what about a short pillaging war against Wang just to slow him down? We aren't going to be ready to take on him or Washington without cats, and even that will be tough, but taking out some improvements, especially cottages, might help. If so, do we want to research horseback riding while we finish off Ragnar? Downside: Wang will probably be able to bribe Washington into DOW us.

Option 2: Turtle and prepare for long drawn out 2 front war. Downside: Wang could leap way ahead of us in war tech while we are trying to build our army.

Option 3: Espionage war against Wang. Build courthouses and work spies. Up the slider. Sabotage his improvements and buildings. Steal his tech. Slow him down while we prepare for war.

Definitely want input on After the War!

Don't take Wang on just yet, he's got enough techs to bribe the others into it as well. Better to turtle and strike when we have siege.

Take our Ragnar if Possible, but maybe wait till Washington declares his hand, softens up the city for us, then we strike.

Wang..Hmm I'm more inclined to get Washington off side with Wang 1st. Then we declare a pillaging war with Horse Archers, but we'll definitely need Catapults, to take on Longbows.

Washington won't be a problem once we have Horse archers, they can take out Catapults he'll send against us, Chariots take out Axes, Cities can hold out against attacks, with Archers only.

Haitabu has the great lighthouse? That'd definitely be a nice price!

I'm for option 2. Eliminate Ragnar and get a good control of our empire through courthouses and generally improvements, before taking on a next victim. We can tech military stuff though to get prepared.

Big Sister did not skimp on narrative in this update. Only treasonous followers of Goldstein could possibly consider this a bare bones report, written hurriedly because Big Sister has another SG turnset to play tomorrow.

t190 250AD - hire some scientists in Nippur because of unimproved tiles. Trade for CoL, Meditation, and Monotheism. Sell our surplus fish to Washington for a measly 2gp. Move troops around Haithbawhatever to block off hammer tiles. Move the GG to settle in Nippur since it's our best production city.

t191 265AD - *curses* didn't realize Borsippa was about to go unhappy. Will have to stack whip anger there. >.<

Whip a galley in Dur-Kur

t192 - swordsman event. Yay! Whip a courthouse in Borsippa.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0066.jpg

t193 - sacrifice 2 chariots and 2 swordsmen to take Haith with 4 archers. The swordsmen were still wounded, but he still had population to whip more archers, so I figured I'd better move. Haithabu falls, and Ragnar is destroyed. Hurray!

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0067.jpg

t194 - construction is in. I set Nippur to making cats, and start on Calendar. And thanks to Wang gifting us a fort, we'll have silk online right away. Hehehe...

t195 - Sitting Bull demands tribute. I tell him to get bent.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0068.jpg

t198 - d'oh! I let DurKur get unhappy again, so whip a courthouse.

t199 - and now Sitting bull is willing to trade us Fur. now I'm mad I whipped.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0069.jpg

t204 - Calendar is in, and I'll stop early so we can discuss next tech.

After Haithabu fell, I mostly focused on repairing our economy - getting courthouses online. Wasted worker turns cottaging a floodplain that isn't in any city's BFC, and screwed up on happiness in Borsippa and Dur-Kur.

Markets can be 2 pop whipped in Uppsala and 3 pop whipped in Babylon. Whip anger is about to expire in Nidaros, which will leave all but 3 cities free of it. We have excess happiness now because of the Fur trade, and Silk will be available in 2 or 3 turns, so we can grow a bit or whip more.

Korea continues to run away with tech, but someone else has the Great Library, so at least we don't have to worry about that.

Washington is way out-spending us in espionage.

Tech choices:

Work Civil Service or Feudalism until we've put enough bulbs in to trade for Calendar?
Compass for Harbors?
Metal Casting for Forges?
Literature for Heroic Epic?
Something else?

Great scientist is up in 6 turns. We don't have an academy yet, but bulbing Philo is tempting.

1) nocho
2) happyturtle
3) IPEX-731BA5DD06 <<< Up
4) Whosit (skip until 17th of August)
5) Brian Shanahan (skip until Aug 18)
6) Norvin Green <<< On Deck (unless the traitors come to their senses and are released from Room 101 before this)
7) Sengir

Hmm me again PPP

Basically its going to be recovering the health of cities and growing the population.

Nippur goes over to a Garden, for the Happy and health. Hires 2 Scientists.

Babylon, hires 2 Scientists.

Haithabu, works the horses. While building its monument, then a Courthouse (Ministry of Love)

Vandal, Catapult then Garden, look to hire 2 Scientists there, hire 1 initially.

Borsippa, hires 2 Scientists to grow in 9 turns, Garden due in 10.

Dur-Kurigalzu, works the Coast, to recover most of the gold we're now losing.

Spoiler :
Growth.png

Column I have selected is Growth, as you can see from population and growth , we need to get Bigger and Badder.

Basically grow cities, build courthouses, and run Scientists. Close borders with Wang, explained below.

Tech to Go for, I'd suggest Compass and using both that and Calendar to trade for both Civil Service and Fedualism. Or possibly even Machinery, with a picking up of Metal Casting.

Wang, is relying on being financial and using coastal tiles for research. Growing our cities, will allow us to blow past Wang, both in research terms and military terms.

Both Sitting Bull and Washington, are contained now. They can only fall further behind as time goes on. It's still very early, and we're the 1st to Calendar, a “High” Priority AI tech, so its been mentioned.

Going Compass, we get Harbours for 50% trade routes, which we going to rely heavily upon.

Spoiler :
Wangs also getting 22 :gold: from Trade routes, by cutting open borders with him, we effectively cut those routes as he has to go through us. This will Curtail his Research, target him for next elimination, and bring us into better light with the Oceania turn coats.

Major game changing move, we close borders, and never re-open them with Wang, NEVER, till he's dead, and we get internal trade routes, then we shut them with the North.

Play in 16 hr's or 72 hr's if wanting more time.

Spoiler :
Big Sister approves. :goodjob: Do we want to let our scoutboat finish nosing around his southern island first, or just cut him off hard now? And did we want to kill him dead, or vassalize him and make him tech for us?

Spoiler :
And why are we talking in spoilers? Is it to keep Goldstein from learning our plans? :crazyeye:

I agree with making the South a private 101 room for Wang. That'll make it easier for us to subjugate him later.
Also, I'm in favor of killing all AI's on our continent. Having them as vassals doesn't seem to fit the theme (though if someone can present a convincing argument to the contrary, I'll agree, and I'll have never suggested otherwise  )

Plan looks good IPEX.

I think having slave nations, researching tech for Big Sister to use to further ensure happiness for the masses, fits the theme just fine.

I'm back from my secret mission for BB
Spoiler :
Which I can happily relate finished with lots of Goldsteinean turncoats jumping off the Cliffs of Moher with only slight persuasion.

Nice work on eliminating one of our Eurasian foes, Happyturtle, and I agree with IPEXs analysis, we were never at war with Eurasia, we were always at war with Eastasia. Slowing Wang Kon down by any means neccessary is good.

So I can slot in at any time.
