Can't ever see Washy or Sitting Bull ever being big enough to be able to research more than a few techs for us even at Monarch. But keeping them alive for Role-playing purposes may be a good idea.
I don't think Wang will ever have enough good land to be useful. Once we take his Capital, and I'm not even considering attacking Wang, in my set. He'll be fairly much useless.
Only providing unhappiness in his old cities, and being hated by Other AI's. Full Elimination of the Enemies of Big Brother is the only real way we should conduct ourselves.
O.K. as we seem to have approval from the Central committee on a plan of Action, I'll proceed.
1st thing I do is close borders with Wang, this has the effect of Dropping his trade routes to Zero, and boosting ours to 30 a rise of 10.
In my PPP, I explained why, this, NEVER EVER REOPEN borders with Wang. NEVER!!!!
Plan is to Grow cities, build Courthouses, Harbours, and trade for Civil Service and Fedualism.
Border cities will all get a Monastery as next build, as that's the Quickest Culture boost, apart from Teching Drama and building a Theatre. (which we may do yet?? what did we decide.)
Spoiler:
See what a marked difference it makes to us and to Wang.
In addition, its worth mentioning, that this also affects Sitting Bull and Washington, who now can only trade with EACH OTHER, or with us. We're big enough, now, that we can get by with no foreign trade routes at all, but for now, we keep the goods flowing.
T+1
Looks as if the Scouting work boat, was bounced back being between two of Wang's Borders. Have to wait till expansion expels the work boat out again. Possibly look at starting a settler for that 1 tile off shore Island, for an intercontinental trade route.
Think about 2 settlers, need to fill out those cities, and we need to make a decision on moving the capital.
T+2
Hmm Washington comes on by, asking for a conversion to Confucianism. As pre our Variant, I say NO, can't be good for relations.
Uppsala, works 2 of the Plantations of Silk, as it has better science and commerce multipliers than Birka.
Akkad needs 2 grassland farms, to grow with 2 scientist specialists. I'll convert a cottage to a farm.
T+3
Workers move to build more farms, nothing much else.
Hmm all 3 have Civil Service, but Sitting bull wants all our techs' and 15 gold to trade it away. Want to keep Monopoly on Calendar, but it won't last long, and he's building the Colossus for us to take off him.
T+4
Uppsala, should really be our Capital in my opinion. It has 3 Silk Plantations (Now), worth 2 science each at 50%, and is more central to our empire and future expansion plans.
Vandal hires a 2nd Scientist, and Akkad, is relegated to growing on plains farms only now with 2 specialist scientists.
T+5
With a Great Scientist due in 1 turn, I decide to do something, I usually never do, that's Bulb Philosophy, and trade it for Both Civil Service (equal beakers) and Feudalism (1600+). Wang has the Tech, and the Religion. It'll keep Calendar, Compass a Monopoly. Get most value out of Great Scientist, as opposed to Academy (13 Beakers) or Settling (6 Beakers).
On the Wonders front, Pyramids STILL hasn't been built as yet. No stone of Marble for us, or opponents, Wang has in the Ice Marble. I see no need for wonder spamming. Troops and taking the Continent is best.
T+6
I bulb Philosophy,
Spoiler:
Beauty of this is, Wang Can't trade it off on us, but we can on him Have to wait 1 turn. 2 Catapults are now available, in Akkad and Vandal. Workers are just building farms or chopping out existing city sites.
T+7
I have to put a turn into Feudalism, as Washington wants Calendar as well, but will give up gold and Civil Service. I was worried that might be the case, but its 1642 beakers or 200 less. Too much a monopoly, as Sitting Bull Doesn't know it I fear.
Sack a Scientist in Akkad, to get a Confucian Monastery out in 10 turns.
Nidaros, goes over to working the 2 new farms, it needs to grow!!!!
Dur-Kurigalzu hires 2 Scientists to stop it growing into unhappiness. This of course kills our gold/turn rate.
Vandal builds a settler for when the Galley returns, settle that off shore Island 1st, for the trade routes.
Nippur has swapped a Catapult in front of Garden, when built, will need the garden to raise happy by 1 point.
Uppsala, should be made capital (Need discussion) and Babylon, Super Science city.
T+8
Washington is being tight fisted about Feudalism, I tech I hardly ever bother with. Won't trade it for Philosophy as yet, another turn required, or is he researching into it??
He'll trade this
Spoiler:
if next turn, still no dice I'll do that.
T+9
I make the 2 trades this turn,
Spoiler:
we still have a Monopoly on Calendar, but didn't pick up horse back riding, a 5 turn research tech, not worth hitting the trading limit for IMHO Nah, (rather arrogant)
Swap into Bureaucracy, for 1 turn of Anarchy. Didn't see the need for Feudalism, or Caste system for that matter. Capital still at Babylon.
T+10
Put chop into Nippurs Catapult, then Whip it, with over flow of 51 +42 Going into a Courthouse, which gets 100% for an Organized leader. 1 turn build I now hope.
T+11
Nippur ends up 6 turns short, it only got 116 odd hammers
Spoiler:
I put another chop into it, 88:, to give it some overflow.
I whip Uppsala's Market (1 turn) into a courthouse, for the gold saving, and 100% overflow, and re-growth next turn anyway, so don't lose out at all.
Spoiler:
Well 1 turn
T+12
Washington comes by asking for a Calendar trade for Horseback riding and gold, no F'n way Hosea!!!
Select Literature as a 3 turn research tech. Have a go at Great Library in Babylon, don't hold out much hope but might as well try
T+13
What did I say to you all???
Wang came on by asking for open borders, its refused outright.
Akkad, gets 2 pop whipped into a courthouse.
Spoiler:
Nidaros, wins back its inner ring to the North, Immediately uses the rice available now.
Think about 3 pop whipping Vandal next turn, what to overflow into?? Hmm Decisions decisions. Babylon builds a Settler in 10 turns after market due in 2, Vandal will take another 14 turns. Galley not available, do we settle another city to the East.???
Metal Casting is known by 3 of the Civ's, us alone don't know it, so we can trade Feudalism to Sitting Bull for it and Horse back riding, once he builds the Colossus. Turn or 2 into it would be needed
T+14
Realize now, Next person can 1 turn Whip Market into the Great Library, along with 3 forest chops, that I have workers moving to do, we may actually have a chance of getting it. Seeing as the Other wonders are so Slow in Falling. Why not.
Literature is 1 turn away, 3 pop whip Vandal, over flow may be applied by next person. I'd suggest building troops as well, or Science while growing to Pop 9.
Fire Scientist in Nippur, put on mine to build troops faster.
Babylon, fires Scientists, so as to Maximize overflow from whipping next turn, and to allow re-hiring once those forests are chopped into the Great Library.
T+15
Ha Ha, I decide to play 1 extra turn, do some actions, then think better of my actions. 219 turns, but...BUT!!!, just finished a tech, I picked Music for the great Artist, and trading value, but we'd better decide on next tech. HOLDING TECH ONLY, DON'T
Spoiler:
I haven't whipped the market in Babylon as yet into the Great Library, moved a few workers. Sorry, bad form I know.
I've had a rethink on Capital movement, Nidaros, would be a better site;
Spoiler:
3 Grassland Hills
4 food Rice un-irrigated, 5 with Irrigation.
5 food Corn, 6 with Irrigation. In 2nd ring, where Irrigation has to run.
Its only 5 pop now, using farms to grow, but lending some out to other cities so they can grow. Has potential to have Moai statues, for Naval forces, with Hills and food.
An excellent Military city. Hmm maybe only heroic Epic city. Maybe.
Note on Wang, he's relying heavily on his Off shore cities for his trade routes. If we take the 3 cities on the mainland, Wonsan and Seoul, Both Holy cities, then Pyongyang Last (on a Hill), we could leave the Island cities till Astronomy to take.
Spoiler:
This report is for Big Brothers Eye's only, Not for general release through the Ministry of Truth to the Proletariat.
Edit (I had to replay the last 3 turns, as I Accidentally hit enter, and removed the option to whip the Market into the great Library, and had some other interactions. ) Sowwie.
Great Library gone in 25 AD. Which means the Music GA is almost certainly gone by now as well.
How about Optics next so we can send out some caravels and meet our future victims? Looks like at least one of them is a culture whore, so we can probably skip the culture techs and focus on war.
I'm find with moving the capital to either location. City specialization is not my strong suit.
What I can make from the screenshots is that it improved our domestic trade from 22 to 30 but deteriorated our overall trade from 59 to 47. The 20 gold in foreign traderoutes we lost with Wang was substituted with 8 gold in traderoutes domestically. Wang likely lost more than we did though. Whether that's a good deal or not is not open for debate.
Its a good deal in the respect that what weakens our enemy, strengthens us.
Why its changed so??? I really don't understand. Maybe we picked up trade routes with Sitting Bull and Washington, so they didn't change, but we did.
I honestly didn't look internally in the cities, before I did it, I just did, when I realized that Wang can only trade through us as the Gate Keeper. I.E. We Culturally control the coastal trade routes on both sides of the continent.
Wang has at least 4 cities off shore, so will be doing very well with 2 trade routes per city, being foreign trade routes. As we have the Great Lighthouse, we should settle that 1 tile island off shore A.S.A.P. to get a Guestimation of what Wang's getting with his routes.
Tech next, Hmm Optics or Machinery. Probably Optics and Astronomy, for foreign trade routes. Trade for metal Casting with Sitting bull using Feudalism, or Compass.
DON'T EVER TRADE WITH WANG, DON'T EVER OPEN BORDERS. Keep him out of the trading circle, and don't trade off a tech he DOESN'T Have to the other 2.
Who's up Brian Shanahan, I pass the game on to you. Big Brother is expecting a detailed report.
Or its the Ministry of Truth and room 101 for you.
Oh dear I was reading along happily, not realising I'm up. I'm taking the save, and I'll look at it in a half-hour (10 turns of boring Micro to do first and post a plan).
Sorry for my stupidity in not being able to read Happyturtle's roster properly.
Looking at the save I agree on the infrastructure rebuild, so finish the courthouses, spam monasteries in sicience cities. Borsippa is currently bringing us in 6bpt building research so keep on that for a while yet (monasteries are only giving 1.05 beakers each yet and are taking ages to build).
Cap gets a chopped out settler. Our current settler cannot access the island a yet as the nearest galley is 17 turns away and Akkad can build one in 13 turns (4 for courthouse, 9 for galley). If we want to settle there I'd use current settler for mainland, and settler out of cap for island.
On tech we've a choice of Drama, Theo, Music, Nationalism, Paper, HBR or MC. I'd go Paper personally, simply to try for the free tech at Lib. But if there are more pressing concerns elsewhere I'd be happy to know.
Please feel free to tear apart my plan, and make a better one.
Theocracy would be the best I'd say, if we're looking at Declaring on Wang. Swords and Multiple Catapults would do the Job, Maces would just be over kill.
But, we don't a religion till we take one, so no. so...believe it or not, Horseback riding, for Horse archers and spam catapults and take out Wangs Mainland cities.
If not that, Optics for Caravels, and see who the other 2 Civilizations are, BEFORE they decide to come a calling upon us.
Papers always a good choice, Big Brother can start to keep comprehensive files on the Proletariat, and publish some propaganda for the masses.
But, we don't a religion till we take one, so no. so...believe it or not, Horseback riding, for Horse archers and spam catapults and take out Wangs Mainland cities.
So you recommend a tech I never do myself. Obviously it'll come in before my 15 are up (paper is 9 turns), so what do you suggest afterwards.
I can start on that army spam in a few places in a few turns.
One final note, I prefer Uppsala to Nidaros for a new capital, it's the best city for maintenance on Wang, and we can always FPalace Boston later on for the North.
Wouldn't tech HBR, if we want it, trade for it. We could probably get MC in trade as well. Paper is good, but only makes sense if followed by education immediately (fine with me). Otherwise trade for MC and go machinery/optics.

Wang, the only other AI willing to trade will give MC for the bottom two, or HBR gold and world map for Compass (he has paper). Please note I haven't tried any other combos, but I don't think I'll be trading any time soon.
I like Optics. Meeting the other civs opens up trades, and will let us know whether we have a shot at Liberalism, and the circumnavigation bonus will help us the rest of the game.
SB will trade HBR as well if we want it. Washington takes calendar+literature for MC+change, don't think it's a bad deal. Otoh, he has machinery already, so if we get MC from Wang somehow, we can maybe get machinery from Washington. Maybe research into MC until Wang will trade it for calendar, 2 or 3 turns probably, and then try for machinery with Wash. Maybe better sit on compass for now. If you really don't want to trade now, I'd rather go paper-edu.

I don't mind about trading, it's just I'm not the most imaginative about finding options. I'll give it tonight, look at what's best/consensus and redraft my plan tomorrow, for play shortly later.
