Sengir03 - The Orwellian State

"Pre-play plan."

Also, I'll be out of it (well, more so) for about a week. Hopefully I can be more active after that.

Had a look; PPP

Whip Granary in Nippur
Upsalla, work 2 food then 3 food and whip on next pop growth for Granary.
Dur-Kurigalzu grow to 4 pop then whip Granary.
Chop 2 forests into Babylon's Library, and run 2 scientists, stagnate at pop 5

Basically just recover the Economy, if we have Iron, start 2 swords to take out Vandal, maybe 3
Do some scouting of Wang Kon as well, with the Chariot

Note that Ragnar and Wang both have access to Horse, while Washington and Sitting Bull don't.
Wang must have a double Gems capital, if not triple, worth scouting out for that alone, should be next target after Ragnars Capital is taken.

I think it looks like a good plan. I'd add a bit:

* Keep working our two cottages and build some more
* Watch the diplo with Washington to make sure he doesn't take Nidaros before we can. His power level is pretty high.
* I wouldn't move the chariot unless we have someone else to watch Vandal. If Wang or Ragnar tries to take it and fails, we may be able to kill-steal. Or even DOW to take it from a surviving but wounded conqueror, if we're prepared for the fallout of that.

Looks fine, PPP sounds okay as well. Just wanted to add that Babylon could use a lighthouse. Let's pray for iron. :) Will you continue with aesthetics after IW?

T+0

Whip Granary in Nippur, move a Thought Police to take over sentry duties on Vandal, move Mobile police unit to scout out Wang's (Agent of East Asia) lands.

Re-adjust the dot mapping to take into account the current settling of the city of Nippur. We have 3rd filler city if needed, but most land tiles are used now.

T+1

Nippur begins a Library, for running Scientists, out of its 5 food surplus. Move another thought police to watch over Vandal, as both Wang (East Asia) and Ragnar (Eurasia) have units watching the city now.

T+2 Seems as if a agent of Goldstein has taken out Ragnar's Sentry war criminal, what a shame. Moving to scout out Wang's Capital (East Asian) site now.

T+3

I now get the 1st view of Wangs Capital city site, not too bad off for food is he. They crawl like termites over the infrastructure, teeming with agents of East Asia.

Spoiler :

WangsCapital.png

Chop a forest into the Library in Babylon, Whip a library for 2 pop, put the overflow into a Heroic Pioneer unit to remove the whip anger.

T+4

Nothing of note, move Mobile police unit and scouting agent of Big Brother about. Build a Heroic Pioneer unit in capital for 9 turns to use up whip anger, Probably settle upon the blue circle close to the capital and work the fish.

T+5

Washington (Traitor to Oceania) now has Alphabet and Iron working ahead of us, but nothing to trade.

Uppsala begins a Library, slow building due to low pop levels. Iron working in 1 turn.

T+6

3 important things happen this turn;

  1. Washington Founds Confucianism and converts to that Religion. Breaks up the Buddhist Hegemony.
  2. Iron working is in, and its in the BFC inner circle of the blue circle city I was angling to settle. Upon a grassland hill, available to be worked with the fish.
  3. Wang has a Go at the Agents of Goldstein, Destroying I agent, leaving a city garrison 1 wounded agent as sole guard. With 2 of Big Brothers thought police in place, we stand ready to take city.

I attack with the 1st thought policeman, who's a combat 1, and lose at 35%, to be expected, but attacking with the 2nd Thought Policeman, unprompted at 85% was a risk , and what happens of course
Spoiler :

TakeVandal.png

HA HA I won!!!! yeah another city and blocking line competed

I whip the granary in Dur-Kurigalzu and just suck up, hanging 2 turns citizens in the park as an object lesson.

T+7

Akkad goes onto prole duties non stop, to stagnate the city, some heroic Pioneer units as well.
Babylon builds a heroic Pioneer unit with a prole to follow up. Chop river side cottage into that.

T+8 Nothing to report, move 2 proles to chop forests, another to build cottage on flood plain, should have done that from start, mistake. :cringe:

T+9

Nothing at all, move warrior of Oceania.

T+10

Dur-Kurigalzu, begins a 13 turn prole, same as whip anger, how's that for mismanagement.

T+11

Nippur is about to chop a forest with some residual whip anger, move prole to head of Queue.
Chop in Babylon, goes into heroic pioneer unit, with overflow going into prole for residual whip anger.

T+12

Nothing much, chops go into Babylon, get a prole next turn after Heroic Pioneer Unit to build Iron mine, others are busy elsewhere.

T+13

Doh!!! I misread the whip, it was 85 overflow with a whip, I didn't so its 5 turns, with 5 turns of anger :goodjob: remaining. :lmao:

Spoiler :
Babylon5turns.png

Great Scientist due in Akkad in 12 turns. Don't whip this city, just leave it to build proles/Heroic Pioneer Units.

T+14

I settle Borsippa, due to the precedent set last turn, away from the fresh water source, so as to immediately work the coastal fish. Proles to follow will build the Iron mine, and another city will need to build the work boat. No agents of Goldstein stole this away from us.

T+15

My time has come to an end. Big Brother, has given the Prole's right roggering. More must be done to build up the Glorious Empire of Oceania.

Spoiler :
Endof15.png

Agents of Goldstein were sighted, and a nest of these vipers was uncovered and destroyed.

I pass the chair over to the next adherent of Big Brothers Plan.

Norvin Green is back from Room 101, to follow up on Big Brother plans.

3 Serial games in 1 day, well 2 1/2, still to play out that last one.

More Proles, 1 less nest of Goldstein's agents.

East Asia has Been sighted, the Turn coat from Oceania, has broken away form the Buddhist Hegemony, signing his death warrant.

The last traitor of Oceania, continues to hide in the north.

Agents of Goldstein, have stolen ALL our Happiness resources, Shortages will have to be endured by the Proles to ensure Big Brothers Eventual Victory.

Issued by the Ministry of Truth.

Nice job snagging Vandal IPEX.

Babylon worker>LH>worker

Akkad - after the GS in 10 turns I'd farm this baby up and build a wb for Borsippa

Dur - farm it as well + finish library

Uppsala - farm FP for growth, finish library

Nippur - 2 mines and a barracks, I'd ditch the library for now and build a barracks

Vandal - switch and whip a monument

Borsippa - get the iron connected and fish

In our NE I'd move the marked city 1E onto the plains tile for more green overall and eliminates need for filler city

Down south by Vandal I'd let WK settle that coastal city as it looks like he doesn't have a lot of space left to settle

Tech Aesth>masonry>construction and start to prep for clearing our continent

Are we settling the GS in Babylon or building an academy? I assume bulbing Math is a no-no?

Looked over the save:

First the cities:
* Babylon should be working cottages instead of coast.
* Akkad should claim the silk cottage and work it. Slows down the worker, but we need to keep the cottages working! Agree that Akkad should not be whipped. Keep those scientists working!
* Nippur is working an unimproved forest tile. Move to lake.
* Vandal obviously needs worker turns. I'd put a monument ahead of the lighthouse in the production queue, since it has no seafood anyway. Also it should claim the flood plain cottage that's about to be completed.
* Borsippa needs worker turns. Maybe slot a workboat in Akkad ahead of the worker to grab that fish?

Tech situation looks grim, but Aesthetics can hopefully get us caught up. Perhaps philosophy too, if we bulb it.

Time to open borders with Ragnar to scout his land with our Mobile Scouting Unit, Big Sister thinks.

No more Heroic Pioneer Units should be settled yet, while we rebuild our economy.

Ragnar has one decent city and two crap ones, but we'll need to keep/replace at least one of them to keep a blocking line up. Best guess at locations:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0058.jpg

Washington and Sitting Bull are bff's, so once we finish off Ragnar, we should be prepared to graduate to worst enemy status. As we should be. :smug:

The horse Blocking city, mover 1 North to the plains hill, 4 hammers and 2 food from a pasture as well as 1 extra hammer in the cities initial square.

Opposed to current settlement of 1 extra from horse, with losing 2 food working the plains hill.

Hammers are the same, yes, but we have 2 extra food, and a 25% defence bonus on a northern border city.

Blocking line yes. Washington and Sitting Bull should now gradually start to fall out with each other.

I recommend the settler marches with the army. The AI tends to keep a few in reserve.

We really need Hereditary rule. Once we have traded for that (extorted better) Babylon, Dur-Kurigalzu, Akkad, Borsippa, Vandal (with rice) and Nippur could run 2 scientists easily. That's 12 Scientists, running in the early game, or 12*3:beakers: 36 Science with growth.

Babylon can work 2 Science specialists, with growth in 3 turns, while building a work boat ( I was getting tired), allowing the new citizen to work the river hill at Population 5. Boosting our science rate from 23 to 30.

One city can just pump out basic Ministry of Love units (warriors) as happy police, to allow the generation of the True armed forces of Oceania.

Monuments, I forgot we had them, confused between games, yes whip Vandals monument.

Nippur is building a mine on the Grassland hill being worked, will only take 4 turns to complete. Work boat ahead of the worker, :goodjob: Norvin green. I concur with that idea.

Dur-Kurigalzu work a Coast tile, to eliminate the cash burn, puts worker out by 2 turns.

Moving the Northern planned city 1 East, loses a hill, to settle on a plains tile, and gather up the filler site of grassland, a bad trade off. The filler site is eventually captured by culture, filler or not.

I'm not big on working cottages as opposed to working specialists early on. Emancipation gives 100% growth to cottages, 3 Science and the GP points is more important then working a Cottage, they can be used by population growth.

Its more important NOW to grow our population, improve the tiles (more workers) and Cleanse our Continent, then working a cottage here or there.

425 b.c. Turn 145

Drop :science: to 0% as we are losing gold at 30%. Vandal gets a monument at the top of its queue.

410 b.c. Turn 146

Bump :science: back to 30% as now we can finish Aesthetics in 9 turns.

395 b.c. Turn 147

Vandal’s monument gets whipped and we are asked to join in with the Confucian ranks. Denied.

Sengir03_04.jpg

380 b.c. Turn 148

Two workers finish, one going to the iron mines and the other to clear the land of some woods

Washington is on our border of Uppsala with 2 axes. More than likely he’s scoping out Ragnar.

Spoiler :
Sengir03_06.jpg

Speaking of whom, he asked for OB, which I accepted if only to get our stray warrior home for MP duties.

Sengir03_05.jpg

365 b.c. Turn 149

Workers are popping up everywhere. Whip the library in Nippur.

305 b.c. Turn 153

Iron is online.

290 b.c. Turn 154

Our research of Aesthetics is now complete. We can get Masonry in 7 turns at 0% slider with running our science specialists. Our GS is due next turn.

Sengir03_07.jpg

245 b.c. Turn 157

GS settled in Babylon.

230 b.c. Turn 158

Borsippa’s fish are netted.

200 b.c. Turn 160

Masonry in. Slotted in Alpha. Perhaps we can trade Aesthetics for Alpha with Washington after we put a turn into it. Hopefully after that we can snag Math while teching to Priesthood and getting Monarchy in trade.

I'll look at the save tomorrow probably and add comments.

Big Sister's comments are available now. Big Sister's comments were always coming tonight.

1. Drop research back down. We shouldn't need a full 100% turn to enable the Alpha/Aesth trade
2. Build a spear or two for chariots. Big Sister is not adept at stack composition or estimation of necessary casualties though, so hopes that someone else can advise further.
3. Wang founded Taoism in 215 B.C. We need to hit him after Ragnar before he goes runaway tech on us. Sending spies to sabotage his libraries and monasteries might help too, after we've placed Inner Party members in each of our own cities, of course.
4. Have marked two tiles for roading, and one for sentry, in preparation for our Heroic Destruction of the enemy. Both roading tiles allow troops to reach Nidaros in two moves, but the silk road will likely keep him from moving anyone from City 3 right away. We could also send one or two units north from Vandal to keep City 3 tied up.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0059.jpg

5. Turns out City 2 was exactly where IPEX recommended resettling. Big Sister did not guess wrongly as to its location. The map was always correct. City 3 may require razing and replacing.
6. Scoutboats should be sent out soon.

Cities:

Babylon: No change
Akkad: Work cow instead of corn to avoid growth and get more hammers
Dur-Kur: About to grow to unhappiness in two turns. Change clam to plains farm to make it 5 turns instead? I don't know the whipping math, so can't say when the library can be whipped.
Uppsala: Needs no more tiles improved until our happy cap goes up
Nippur: In one turn, start working the corn again for growth out of whip anger.
Vandal: Whip granary. Send a worker to pasture the cow - border will pop in 3. Claim the riverside cottage from Uppsala.
Borsippa: Whip granary.

Big Sister is Watching You.

Turnset done, mostly military buildup. Whipped a bit as well :D

Turn 160:
Set research to something sustainable

Turn 161:
Vandal: Gran > Lib

Turn 162:
Trade Aest with Washington for Alpha. Going the Poly > Priesthood line for Monarchy
Lose the Cornfarm at Akkad to a ungood event.
sengir03_1_badevent.jpg

Turn 165:
Uppsala: Lib > Barracks

Turn 166:
Babylon: Sword > Spear
Akkad: Sword > Spear

Turn 167:
Poly in, set research to Priesthood

Turn 168:
Nippur: Sword > Sword

Turn 169:
Priesthood in, set research to Monarchy

Turn 170:
We get a doubleplusgood event.
sengir03_1_goodevent.jpg

Turn 171:
SB asks us to cancel deals with the vile Vikings (mind the alliteration). I agree, as he's on top of the hitlist anyway, and the diplo plus will mean I can trade for Monarchy a bit faster. Warrior goes flying though
Trade Alpha for Monarchy; set research to math, as construction will be nice for upcoming wars.

Latest troop count of Ragnar the not-so-ready:
Nidaros: 2 Guerilla archers, 1 regular archer, 2 chariots (city walls + 40% defense)
Haithabu: 1 Guerilla archer, 1 regular archer (city walls, 20% defense)
Birka: 3 regular archers (no walls, 20% defense)
One spare chariot running around protecting workers

Dur-Kur: Library > worker

Revolt to Monarchy

Turn 172:
Reconfigure cities to grow a bit.

Turn 173:
Akkad: Spear > Sword

Turn 174:
Babylon: Spear > Sword

Turn 175:
Nippur: Sword > Sword
Whip both Uppsala and Babylon, they should build another sword next. When those are done (including the one coming from Nippur, also in 2 turns), we'll have 2 spears, 2 bowman, 2 chariots and 10 swords for the attack. Some more should come shortly afterward. Might be best to take out Birka first (practice a bit, wait for more reinforcements), then continue to Nidaros. On the other hand, that'll allow Ragnar to whip more defences. So next player can decide that.

The save and pictures have always been here.

Next turnset done. Next turnset has always been done.

The first few turns were spent getting the last troops out for the Viking campaign and then a few more turns to get the troops in place. Those coming from the eastern training camps eagerly marched day and night in order not to be left out of the action. Finally the hound dogs of the Babylonian army were unleashed the night of turn 182 and after a bloody battle Nidaros fell into Big Brother's loving arms.
SNGR330002.jpg

The army moved on to Birka and it was taken as well but the chronicler forgot to make a painting of the happening. The chronicler hasn't been heard from since.

Ragnar's remaining city is defended by 2 archers, while the galley and worker regiments present impress our fearless army even less. However, we need some healing and the city is on a hill so we can wait a few turns before attacking.

On the tech front we made 2 important advances, first mathematics was discovered and on the last turn also currency. In a joined effort nearly all cities of the Babylonian empire put their production towards helping research to speed up this feat quite a bit. Now that we have currency however, many cities have been put to building wealth instead.

There are some interesting trades to be made.
SNGR330003.jpg

First, I'd take all the cash from Wang for aesthetics. He'll actually throw in meditation as well (might be handy for a philo bulb).

Secondly, from Washington we can get CoL+15g for currency. Big Brother rejoices at the thought of building courthouses all through the empire and hiring not-so-secret agents to maintain order.

I'd suggest we either continue with construction (catapults, garden) which nobody fashionably wants to trade away or civil service after the CoL trade.

Washington will make a nice new target, NY stole Nidaros' food resources actually. He should have longbows by now though.

Eep... my turn again?

I'll take a look at the save and try and get a PPP out today.

Ragnar will give us Meditation and Monotheism for a 10 turn peace treaty. Thoughts?
