Sengoku-Deluxe: preview and discussion thread

Those look good Ogedei, I'll try them with womacks greener terrain to see how they look in game.

Here's a thought on some wonders:

The Flower and Willow World. This great wonder places a brothel in every city. Brothels increase, what else, happiness.

Good Idea 7Ronin!

And who wouldn't be happy after a trip to their local brothel? :D

Is there a difference between a brothel and a geisha house or are they one in the same?

Okay, I'll concede that the term Flower and Willow World refers to Geisha and not to prostitution. :p However, there were indeed brothels in Japan which did not masquerade as either teahouses or inns or under any other euphemistic appellation. The Yoshiwara Yuwaku and Shimabara districts referenced in the Wiki article were nothing but wall to wall brothels. Brothels have existed in Japan since time immemorial and still do.

This is a high class outfit we have here; instead of putting a brothel in every city the Flower and Willow wonder can put a Geisha House in every city. Of course if you would rather have brothels we can change the name to the "Nightless City" wonder. There is an excellent book about the Yoshiwara titled, The Nightless City or a History of the Yoshiwara Yuwaku. There are also two excellent movies which examine the issue of prostitution in Japan from opposite ends of the time spectrum. They are The Life of Oharu and Street of Shame. Both are considered to be classics.

Tak your comments on the space race have piqued my interest. Your assignment is to determine five elements of governance which Tokugawa Ieyasu divised to control the Daimyo following his assumption of the Shogunate. You already have some of them.

P.S. Sankin Kotai

Or you could name the wonder the venus butterfly considering that prostitution is the second oldest occupation I would find it hard to believe that there wouldnt be any in Japan.

No, not dead, just slowing down.I knew if I tried to make this into a big project instead of just a quick overhaul this would be the result.I get distracted too easily, adult ADD or something.
LMR(Lizardmenrule) stated he would give the leader heads a go so why don't you send him the artwork........

Hey, I´m back. Just had no intention of being in CFC... and lots of nerves over the match with Mexico... next stop Berlin now, boys!
Update from teh
Another difficulty level: Shikken (second best, just after Shōgun).

1)Sankin-kotai
2)Orders for public works?
3)Taxation?

bakuhan taisei?

What do you say about my proposals above?

Glad you're back. Are you referring to the aspects of the Shogunate? If so...

Bakuhan Taisei might make an interesting tech. It really refers to the government administrative system as a whole rather than to any specific element of Daimyo control. How would we work the others in? Taxation is already a feature. We also "demand" public works by making some features necessary before others can be built.

A slight digression:
Stone Crossbowmen. I am unable to find any reference which supports the use of crossbows in medieval Japan. I have also found that elsewhere in the world a stone crossbow, that is one which fired a stone instead of a metal bolt or quarrel, was used only for hunting. Anybody out there have any knowledge on this they can share?

There was a thread, I think in the WH forum, about crossbows in Asia. perhaps you could ask there...

I think that first, instead of the apollo project you could have the imperial mandate, and then you build a Bakufu... but the emperor never granted more than one Mandate... you should have to be in control of the Palace Gates in Kyōtō.
But if you captured the Palace Gates from someone who´s already started building his/her bakufu, then you could start building it as well... ¿?

This is an interesting idea Tak. I think you're on to something with this. Any suggestions on how we could incorporate Virote Considion's idea?

Place a required resource to build the palace gates under the city of kyoto and flag it as "required goods must be within city radius" to build.

Like some wonders -in RFRE, I think- that had to be built only in Rome or somethink.
You can build the Palace Gates only in Kyōtō, eh? I can think of two answers:
  1. No, they should be already built and with a VP location as well, so you can take tribute to the emperor and get points.
  2. They should be a SW. That way, if you lose control of the city, you can still win another way, and if you´re already building (or have built part of) your Bakufu, the new resident can still beat you to it.
Take your pick, lassie.
new part(s) x space victory: expulsion of Christians; suppresion of Militant Buddhism.

Also, Arquebusiers shouldn´t be "defensive" units, since then you could only defeat them with other Arquebusiers.
The european Interlopers (gai-jin) could be a civ that can get involved, and instead of trading workers you could trade gunpowder weapons (heavy cannon/muskets'n'arquebus) from them, and of course, you can expel them when you´re Shōgun.

@Virote Considon: where are you from?
