September Update Thread

Is there a chance for 1-2 new leaders on the next patch. Small leader dlc. Or do the steam depot updates rule them out?

Personally i think the next update will not launch before thursday next week.
I think firaxis will take its time to milk the new multiplayer scenario with another livestream and talk a bit about untold changes in upcoming patch. I still think there might be some surprises before the patch reaches us. Like an announcement for the future or something sweet on the next update.

I don't know why they would include alt leaders as free content and not advertise the heck out of it. But if they are, it's not as it's own separate free DLC.

Just had a thoughty. If Veterancy is being extended to include Harbour and its buildings, wouldn't it be only logical to include Aerodrome and its buildings as well? As long as Aerodrome remains military purposed thingy? Yes, no, too late, next patch? Pretty please?

I would like to think that this means there is more to this Patch than has been announced:
1. 'Tweaks' to Combat Factors and Bonuses among the various categories of Units? - an easy Patch, no graphics required at all, just Numbers and Civilopedia entries.
2. 'Correction' of the now-excessive costs to repair/rebuild Districts? - again, a number-crunching exercise not requiring animation or still graphics changes.
3. 'Upgrading' some of the marginal Natural and World Wonders? - This would be harder, because there is not all that much consensus on which need nerfing or buffing, and Balancing changes would be very dicey without a lot of time in Playtesting - unless, of course, they follow past practice and just release it and let us players do the play testing for them. IF the 'Mystery' on the Terra maps is Real and related to Wonders, this becomes more likely.

So far, of course, all Speculation . . .

Very nice, but before any of that:
1. Revise the Aid Request emergency, ideally by implementing my idea for a World Congress Treasury.
2. Address the nonsensicality of how a diplomatic victory works right now, particularly with regards to the Diplomatic Victory Dogpile.
3. Give lakes some sort of specific buff (don't wanna hear 'bout no fisheries), such as a pantheon to call their own. Oh, and let them be included in national parks.

The repair times for districts would be well-handled by giving military engineer's the ability to expedite district repairs. That is something they do.

Lots. But right now I'm waiting to see what the Firaxiods will do with the Maori Start mechanism, which appears to me to beg for a land-based version to cover early nomadic/pastoral starts. Since the new Humankind 4x game announced for next year apparently starts with all factions as nomad groups (which is more historically accurate than the traditional Civ start) for much of the early Era, that may 'push' that kind of start mechanism in the Civ franchise as well. We'll see how it all works out.

So far, at least, there is not a hint of anything like this in the September Update, but I wouldn't expect such a comprehensive change in a Civ to be in anything less than a DLC.
Indeed. There are aspects in Civ6 that make the game feels like there still are a missing piece or two. Especially when it comes to people/population where I think all mechanism and outcome often feels too artificial - I expect they will eventually add a layer regarding that and I've been writing on a post including some suggestion, but like you I'm waiting to see what's "soon" to come..

I don't think anyone has pointed it out yet, but at 2:33 of the September update video there's a Lakes map option shown there with it's own icon above Pangea and below Inland sea.
It wasn't mentioned in the video, and I'm not sure it's included in the count of the number of new maps. They said they'd introduce 6 new maps, and showed those 6 maps with Terra, Continents and Islands, Mirror, Primordial, Splintered fractal, and Tilted Axis.
Is this a map type they're still working on and won't introduce until the next update, or will they introduce it as well in this update? Maybe they simply forget to mention it, but I find that to be doubtful.
Honestly though, it interests me the most, since a map with tons of lakes sounds really fun.

The Diplomatic Victory and World Congress were just added to the game, and the entire Diplomatic Game feels like it was added - as an afterthought, without testing, and with very little thought given to how it plays or why anybody would bother to play it. It needs a complete revamp, but I don't think it's going to happen this soon: the September Patch is certainly not likely to touch it.

I'm all in favor of more uses for Military Engineers in he Renaissance and later Eras: the military engineering and civil engineering 'careers' were almost indistinguishable until the Modern Era, and the military academies like West Point or St Cyr taught as much or more engineering as they did tactics. Allowing ME Charges to be applied to District Repair/Building, Dam Building, Canal Building, and Railroad Building would match their historical importance, and speed up some interminably slow processes in the mid and late game.

I could make the historical case that they could also be used to build/speed Wonders (Panama Canal the obvious example), but that, I think, would Imbalance the game, allow too many exploits, and cut into China's UA.

Well, I think we already have a Lakes map. It's called "Seven Seas". :)
Having seven seas (Which are for the most part connected) is very different from a map with many independent lakes.
And of course Seven seas is shown separate to the Lakes map, so they aren't meant to be the same at all.
From the looks of the map icon shown for the Lakes map, it looks to be like the pangea map, but with many lakes of varying size throughout the map.

I’m pretty sure quite a lot of thought went into the Diplomacy Mechanics, particularly the World Congress. Indeed, I’m guessing a little, but it looks to me like FXS were targeting releasing the WC for RnF, but ended up delaying (I assume because they still wanted to keep working on it) and we therefore only got Emergencies in RnF.

My seven seas maps sound very different from yours, as they are rarely connected or even connectable via canals. Mostly just big lakes that are scarcely worth dropping naval units in.

Huh. I just finished a Seven Seas map that was basically a ringworld, with a few inland seas and oceans near the poles.

If a lot of thought went into it, then why did we wind up with World Congress initiatives that are randomly generated regardless of In-Game situations? Why is there, apparently, no connection whatsoever between Diplomatic Strength and Trade, Civics, or Internal Politics? Why is it that 'Emergencies' are apparently generated at Random (Disclosure: On Pangaea Maps, where every Civ is more or less in close proximity, I have been involved in an Emergency about 3 times in over 100 games. Specific proximity to my Civ's borders does not appear to have any effect on Emergency declaration or involvement)
If Diplomacy is going to be random or appear to be random, why bother with it?

My conclusion is that they still have more work to do on it. For one thing, without specifically excluding every other Victory type, I find it impossible to make the game last long enough for a Diplomatic Victory: Science, Domination, Culture - even a Religious Victory is more likely. I've played several games in which I specifically tried ignoring Diplomacy and it made almost no difference in the outcome of the game. That indicates an entire Mechanism that isn't working the way it is supposed to, because Diplomacy should be of paramount importance if there are other Civs in the game. Right now, my personal experience (and that's what I'm going by - I'm sure other people have different styles of play and different interests and so completely different In-Game experiences with Diplomacy, World Congress, and Emergencies.) is that Diplomacy is an Afterthought, and that's sad

I think firaxis will take its time to milk the new multiplayer scenario with another livestream and talk a bit about untold changes in upcoming patch.
I'm under the impression that it's a new multiplayer mode (like internet, hot seat, or play by cloud), not a new scenario. I would be quite surprised to get significant new content in a free patch - the new map types are quite a lot already. The chances of a new leader, wonder, or scenario are very low IMO.

But I think there's a good chance of a livestream this week, with the patch coming out by the end of the week.

Besides district/building repair military engineers charges do apply to all of those that you mentioned already in addition to speeding up the Aqueduct and building Mountain Tunnels.

Oh.. about these 6 new basic Maps.. the TSL variations seem to (now) include a more generic "Earth" along the other two (Asia & Europe == Video simply stops scrolling there!). Doesn't necessarily means those concepts have been changed or improved -- i'm just hoping strict calibrations (of many other regions) for sizes and grid spanning (similar to what Gedemon already offers within his configurable YaMP systems) would also be integrated along as formal templates like the others.

I've already suggested stuff to him in the official thread for such controls.. but i'd like to see if Firaxis still should borrow a few of his cool principles -- they're expanding Maps (with quality & variety) anyway, right?

PS; This comment **isn't** implying they could "steal" some of his excellent ideas, btw. His Mod still stands as a major asset in anybody's toolbox for fundamental Mapping. It's just that SOME stuff would be shared when preferable for additional user potential.
