SGFN-09: Constantinople stands alone!

Okay, then, I think this is the new situation:

1: Overseer => Just played
2: Sparthage => Skip
3: DWetzel => MIA
4: Bowsling => Skip/swap
5: Elephantium => UP!
6: Charlemagne => On deck?

I'm also up in Rat42, so it might be a couple of days before I can play this one.

Pre-turn:

I look at CA II for culture. We need...
5 Stock Exchanges for Wall Street (300s, 2cpt, 1 under construction)
4 more Hospitals for Battlefield Medicine (500s, 1cpt)
1 more Army for The Pentagon (400s, 1cpt)
Economics for Smith's (600s, 3cpt)

Minimum of 18 turns away:
Computers for Research Lab (100s, 2cpt)
Computers for SETI program (1000s, 3cpt)
Fission for UN (1000s, 4cpt)
Fission for Manhatten Project (800s, 2cpt)

I'm going to switch builds to open up Wall Street ASAP, then research Economics and build Smith's.
2 turns to finish Hoover's
300s / 84spt = 4 turns to build Wall Street
600s / 84 spt = 8 turns w/prebuild to finish Smith's

With those, plus building the UN in 1500, we'll win in 1575.
I wrote up a spreadsheet to play with the numbers, and the best I could do was 1570 -- assuming we get at least one Leader in battle.

IBT:

Pollution at Const
Athens: Workers
Barcelona: Bank > SE

TUrn 1 (1355 AD):

Move workers around, trying to improve our core.

5 Cannons at Thessalonica - one damage. Okay, we'll try again next turn.

8 Cannons at Ephesus - 5 hits

eCav kills redlined Rifle
Cav kills LB and takes Ephesus.

IBT:

Two Greek Rifles and one LB come into tiles around Ephesus.
Athens: Workers

Eeples, I lost track of this when no one commented after my midset post! I'll have the second half of my set posted tonight.

Spoiler :
Continued (sorry about the long delay) ...

Cycle Scientists to Taxmen and sell a Lib in hopelessly corrupt Ngome.
Short-rush SE in Barbaropolis and Barcelona
Short-rush Bank in Toledo

IBT:

Aztecs move out forces to attack us. They send ... a Swordsman and a Longbow. Our troops are terrified, especially when the LB suicides vs. our A-cav.

Madrid: Bank > SE
Barbaropolis: SE > Infantry
Seville: Factory > Uni
Toledo: Bank > SE
Intombe: Mkt > Uni

Rush Wall Street.
Kill two Spears in Tlacopan and take the city -- this time, I don't raze it.
Kill another two Spears in Malinalco and take THAT city!

Short-rush Uni in Toledo

Notes:

Oh, Murcia is about to riot -- I forgot to fix that before saving. Other than that, the war is going well; the Aztecs are on the run. We can make peace with Greece anytime .... I held off because they've been accumulating gold.

Research is closer to 6-turn than 4-turn. Some Uni builds in core cities should help with that. I've been disbanding new Infantry builds to help speed those along.

Easy to lose track of, isn't it? I was scared for a moment when I saw the update, I thought I might have been supposed to play again. I'll take it within a week, but I'll give time for either Bowsling or Sparthage to take it if they can.

AFAIK Sparthage lost interest in Civ 3 (at least, I haven't seen any posts from him recently), and Bowsling just got back from vacation -- he'll probably need a few days to get organized. At this point, we're cruising to victory, with future culture builds taking 2-3 turns off the win date at most.

More like 35-40 :)

35 turns will be 1575 AD, and that was the "perfect luck" scenario in my spreadsheet. We're already guaranteed to take longer than that (though not MUCH longer).

Sparthage is playing Civ5 SG's.

A good plan.

I have played halfway, however, I won't have access to the save until Sunday or Monday. Not a whole lot has happened, but:
- Greece spent their gold! :pissed:
- The entirety of the continent is ours, with the exception of Ottoman-held Swazi.

Here it is. Only five turns, unfortunately.

Spoiler :
Turn 0:
Hire a clown in Murcia to pacify the population

Shift production in Toledo to generate more food while still finishing
the university in one turn

Ditto for Salamanca, but on a smaller scale

Constantinople is one heck of a city! :eek:

We make peace with the Aztecs, obtaining 11 gold, 2 gpt, and their world map

Put science at 90%, bringing MP in in 4, with a deficit of 27 gpt

Switch Corinth to library to facilitate border growth

IBT:

Nothing

Turn 3:

Madrid University>Hospital

Murcia University>wealth. That brings in 11 gpt

Asturias Library>Worker

Greece spent all of their gold! :pissed:

I shell Eretria to try and convince Greece to give up communism, causing the
Aztecs to break the truce and declare war

Cavalry army takes 4 damage killing a regular rifleman

8 additional cavalry isn't enough to hand over their precious Communist Manifesto

IBT:

we lost our supply of gems and silks

Turn 4:

Constantinople Stock Exchange>Army

Toledo Infantry>wealth

Salamanca Infantry>Infantry

Turned out Genghis was the one that didn't even renegociate our luxury deal.

Greece only made one gold this turn. It's time to pull the plug.

Artillery bombardment fails

Elite cavalry takes two damage killing a rifleman, and the city falls.
We get our well deserved one gold
