SGOTM 01 - Chaos

Oh well, under threat of being called stupid by all the people who aren't posting and I have figured out exactly why we are researching compass, I am not switching research to math.

Really, really boring turns. No screenshots because there just wasn't anything important enough. Except the demographics (statistics!).

Turn report:

Code of laws to Qin for masonry and math. CoL to Roosevelt for Hunting and Iron Working. iron is over on the peninsula near Qin. Research to 90%.

0. MM for commerce and growth. Switch research to math(due in 32).

1. Monarchy and Alpha to Roosevelt for Construction-Mono-Archery. Research 80%. Delhi Axe-Axe. Bombay Barracks-Cat

1. Whip Lighthouse in Memphis

IT: Memphis: Lighthouse-Great Lighthouse. The only other thing to build is troops, so why not?

2. zzz build cottages and MM more.

2. Delhi Axe-Axe Whip barracks in Bangalore so it can start producing axes.

IT: St. Pete: Worker-Lighthouse.

3. zzz

3. Rice to Roosevelt for Spices. Delhi Axe-Axe. Bangalore rax-Lighthouse(but not for long. it switched to axemen). Kashi Vishwanath built in Spain. Whip rax in Madras.

IT: Great Lighthouse BIADL. Oh well. We still get 72 gold out of it.

4. zzz

4. Delhi Axe-Cat Great lighthouse BIADL Bangalore whip axe.

IT: Memphis switches to a galley. Rostov: Library-Lighthouse

5. zzz

5. don't know what happened to my notes here:confused:

6. Research up to 30%. Math in 16

7. zzz

6. Literature-Metal Casting(due in 14). Delhi Cat- Great Library. Bombay Cat-Cat

7. Qin adopts vassalage. Research to 70%

8. Research at 40%. Math in 9.

8. Axe whip in Madras.

9. zzz

9. madras Axe-Axe. rax whip in Calcutta.

IT:Memphis Galley-Worker.

10. zzz

10. Calcutta Rax-lighthouse.
11. GL built in Delhi. Calcutta lighthouse-Cat.

Quiet turns. All I did was basically get the research to go up by MM-ing for commerce almost whenever workers built another cottage. As it seems to be working, I encourage the next player to do it too.

The All-Important Turn Statistics:

Cottages built:7
Units built:2
Buildings built:2
Roads built:2
Resources improved:1

General Stats:
Unhappy people:2
Unhealthy people:0
Specialists:2
Resources connected:15
Resources unconnected:8

:( Bad stat:We have seven buildings in our whole empire. 5 granaries and a barracks. That's one per city.

:) Good stat:We are #1 in production according to the demographics. This makes me think we should go domination.

:p Random Cool stat: Farms in empire:0

good report my fine fickle friend. I'll take it from here.

Since nothing really happened i'll continue to build glorious cottages and make way for code of laws.

We already have COL - we traded it to Roosevelt for some other techs.

He is my boring report that had an absence of fun. You guys have to tell me how to get pictures on here!!!

Turn 1,2,3,5,9=nothing

Turn 4: Settler finished in glorious Thebes and switch to walls because walls won't cost us anything. Moved the travelling settler north to get us silver to keep our stark raving mad people content. Hi ho silver, and away!!!!

Turn 6: Memphis finishes worker and start to build a work boat for the great coastal city of Atlantis!!! or maybe Heliopolis.

Turn 7: Our silver city of the north is built but it reduced our pitiful income to -7 :(

Turn 8: MAN DO I LOVE THIS TURN!!!!

We meet GHANDI!!!!!

The best is that he has resources that make people happy and I traded for them

Another good thing is that he is our special friend!!!
Also on this turn Math is finished and we start the long, long trip to currency. Lastly buddhism has spread to our land and I convert. This means that we are now allied with Cyrus (he will be punished his crimes against humanity, we don't know any yet) and Ghandi. Also it's another way to kepp people happy.

This has to be the biggest and most exciting turn yet, maybe besides taking Moscow :goodjob:

Turn 10: I start exploring Cyrus' land and great scientist is born in thebes. i use him to make an academy

That's pretty much my turn. We are still -10 in gold. I wish I didn't build the new city since we didn't need it once I met Ghandi. I suggest exploring Cyrus, finish currency and col and go on to alphabet.

Hookie is up!
That was some nice builder turns. How is our special friend faring?
If we are aiming for domination, we must make sure he doesn't become to large...

Ghandi is first in points and has built most of the wonders. We are the largest civ on the demographics.

We do have more cities then him to.

How do you post pictures in the forums?

How to do pictures.

I'm assuming you know how to do screenshots in the game. The best resolution in these forums is 860 wide and however deep that is. I use gimp to edit the screenprints (combining info, cut and paste, add words, city squares, etc). Once I have a jpg that I like, I then load it up to my free hosting page (http://imageshack.us/. Membership is free and they give you lots of space for your prints. You can upload one image at a time, or upload a zipfile full of images (this cost you credits - you can buy 6000 credits for $15). Once you have that, they provide a thump print plus code for showing your image in forums (look for '' tags), code for web pages (look for '<img src=' tags) etc.

Just include the [img] code in your post and you are done.

Just realized I forgot and uploaded the save in the normal way and not onto the page. I guess I'll ask the staff what to do.
Your save (25BC) is missing from the official list of saves. You should ask AlanH what to do because it would be nice to have a complete set there.

It's too late at night to write it up properly.

0 Memphis changed from aquaduct to chariot. Moscow aquaduct changed to barracks and growth is slowed. St. Pete's aquaduct changed to axeman. Thebes's growth is accelerated by firing scientists. Whip in Novgorod and Rostov.

1: 155 AD Rostov lighthouse>barracks. Novgorod library>lighthouse.

2: 170 AD. Gandhi has a settler headed towards our lands Moscow and St. Pete production changed to settler.

3: 185 AD Helio workboat>granary. Memphis chariot>settler.

4: 200 AD: Whip Heliopolis for the granary.

5: 215 AD: Heliopolis granary>lighthouse.

6: 230 AD: zzzzzzz

7: 245 AD: Gandhi landed his settler north of the cow on the turn our settler finished in Moscow!

8: 260 AD: Gandhi settled! Moscow settler sent south.

9: 275 AD: Alexandria built in the south and begins a granary.

10: 290 AD: Two settlers are due next turn which will pretty well cover our land. When the silver mine is complete, Elephantine's citizen should be placed on it. I tried to time growth approximately for when silver comes up. Moscow, St. Pete, Memphis, Thebes, and Rostov will soon be ready to concentrate on the attack force for Persia. Taking Tarsus may allow us to flip the Indian city. Currency is due in 2 turns.

Moscow has gone Christian and Persia has some Christian cities. We could make missionaries to get Cyrus to convert and lose favor with Gandhi.

1 city founded
Lighthouse, library, granary built
Chariot built (I wish I'd built more)

We're #1 in land but #2 in production.

Good night and good luck.

Turn 7: Our silver city of the north is built but it reduced our pitiful income to -7 :(

Turn 8: MAN DO I LOVE THIS TURN!!!!

We meet GHANDI!!!!!

Good work on meeting Gandhi - we must keep him in our good books. This means trades, his religion, fighting his wars, etc.

I am surprised by your location for Elphantine (the silver city). All the dot maps have the city located on ice and leaving more room for the city beside the mountains (a kick ass science city with lots of floodplains and now a fish resource). Building cities on ice (or desert) turn a useless tile (ice and desert give you nothing) into a tile that gives you something (1F 1H 1C I think).

Also, and this is more general, what is with our research path. I have never seen someone research to COL v Currency. v Priesthood is much quicker. Also, we haven't got alphabet yet - we need to get that soon and get cracking on our tech trades.

I think we need a serious discussion about tech research path. The problem I have is that tech research path is the weakest part of my game. How score is down v the other civs because our tech is behind.

I just checked the save and we are last in soldiers at #6. I'm not worried about being last. I mention it because it tells us that there were 7 civs in total (including Catherine) and we know 5. We can visit the spoiler thread once we meet another 2.

The reason we went for CoL via currency is because we wanted currency too. It helps the economy almost as well as CoL. I thought our research path from back when I was playing was Math-Currency-CoL-Priesthood-Monarchy. However, if our citizens are happy enough we can probably go for alphabet before priesthoood and monarchy.

Now that I look at the save, I am not sure I agree with our descisions. It looks like we are basically expanding at all costs, war or peace, with two settlers ready and military units or barracks ordered in most of the cities. I think we need to support our two cities we are about to found before going to war to get new ones. I don't think it is a good idea to expand rapidly when we are at a deficit with 30% research. We need to get courthouses in most of our cities before we even think about war.

I also disagree with the silver city, I'm with ruff there. Also, Alexandria is IMO a completely useless city, I really see no benefit to it.

I think we need to have a discussion about whether we want to go to war soon or not. At this point, I think going to war would only llead us to 0% science. Cyrus dosn't have alphabet yet so we probably have lots of time before he goes medieval.

I figured with so many unhappy people silver would be a good idea, but once i met Ghandi it made that city useless. I completely agree with going to alphabet and to stop expanding.

Here's the pictures I took when I met Ghandi
Here we see that he is way ahead in tech and has the resources for making our people happy

in this pic we see that he is our special friend.

Chriseay is up. Great work everybody.

I am going to be away from internet access until friday, so if I'm up before then, skip me.
If Chriseay doesn't post a got it soon, you go get'em Strauss.

Okay okay, I'm back. I'll play today. After I read all your wonderful postings. I'm sure there are a ton of dumb and annoying things in there. And maybe even one or two intelligent moves (no doubt inadvertant).
