SGOTM 01 - Chaos

Ruff's Method (RM) seems to be working great.

Here's my RM roster
Chriseay, (Mr Grump) UP!
HookEmHorns, (much better rhymer than some)
I play 4 fun, (excaggerator)
jeejeep, (mathematician)
Munterpipe, (general whipping boy)
ruff_hi, (artist)
Strauss ( furiously in luuuv with everyone)

Hey guys, I'm back! (and just in time apparently)

I haven't been able to play CIV for a couple of weeks (just played my first game in June), but holidays are around the corner, so I have time again now. I'll catch up with progress tomorrow and will be ready to play again from then.

Sorry men, I haven't been able to play yet. Somehow my last few days at school are the most Chaotic of the entire year, so I've barely been able to catch up with our progress until now and I want to put decent effort into it.
I will be able to play tomorrow evening. If chriseay can grab and play it before then, go ahead.

Ok - guess that means me. I will play today but someone (anyone) feel free to jump in before me. I will check back just prior to playing.

Well, I 'already' played the first 4 turns. However, the Settler in Moscow is now completed. Where is he supposed to go? According to Hook's report, near the second incense, but there's little space there at the moment. I can't find any other info on this. So where should the settler go?

keep going Strauss - put the settler where ever you think is a fair thing

Ok then. Will finish my turns before the next football matches.

BTW, ruff, congrats on Australia's progress to the next round. Do all you Aussies adore Guus Hiddink now?;)

Inherited turn (1118 AD): Switch to bureaucracy and whip Memphis for Maceman.

Turn 1 (1124 AD): Upgrade some units

Turn 2 (1130 AD): Increase research to 20%

Turn 3 (1136 AD): Tarsus comes out of resistance, start on Courthouse (9 gold maintenance atm)

Turn 4 (1142 AD): Settler finished in Moscow. Put him to wait in Kolhapur until we find some breathing space in Persia.

IBT: Cyrus comes begging for peace. Although he offers some gold (and looks reeeeeeeally handsome with that beard:love:

Turn 5 (1148 AD): Attack some Persian units on open ground

IBT:The Persians counterattack, both Maces kill Swordsmen, Mace west of the hill gets killed by Horse Archer.

Turn 6 (1154 AD): ......

Turn 7 (1160 AD): ..........

Turn 8 (1166 AD): ................... Isn't this lovely?:queen:

Turn 9 (1172 AD): ...........................

Turn 10 (1178 AD): ................................

-------------------------------------------------------------
Not the most pleasing set of turns... I spent pretty much all of my time waiting for reinforcements to arrive to take Arbela. It seemed to be an easy prey until they upgraded their Archer to Longbowman. Longbowman City Garrison I + city built on hill = a large defense bonus. I was able to take out a few Swords and Axes and 1 Spearman but at the cost of 2 Maces. With just one Maceman, 2 Horse Archers and 3 Catapults I might have been able to take Arbela but it would come at dreadful losses, and then either I or the next player would have to deal with Persian counterattacks and we might lose Arbela again.

Reinforcements (2 Maces and 1 Catapult) are sailing to the front and should be ready to attack Arbela in 2-3 turns. More reinforcements are waiting for shipping to the front. The 'first wave' will be enough to take down Arbela and combined with the second wave should be capable of taking out Persia.

All is still quiet on the Southern Front

The beautiful and charming Egyptian Empire:yup:

Yippee - its my up! Will play tonight or tomorrow morning. Say bye bye to Cyrus. I will also get cracking on our love fest with Gandhi - PA here we come. Have we meet everyone else yet?

Bye bye Cyrus, and I guess you'll be picturing a certain referee in your mind, when putting the pressure on the Persian capital;)

Firstly - what a heart breaker. I was sitting at work, checking the score every now and then and as the clock ticked over the 90' mark I started dreading the possibility of Italy going a goal up. That would give us no time to counter-attack. I haven't seen the video yet (but based on the 'official' coverage of the Ned-Port match, it seems that totally fail to give you a feeling for what is going on), but I would bet that we just didn't take our chances as they fell to us.

Summary: very happy with you guys (socceroos) but what a heartbreaker.

Now, getting down to this game. We have optics but we aren't building any caravels - WHY? WHY? Knowing other civs allows us to trade techs with them if they don't know the tech or gives us research bonuses if they do. I now have two caravels out, one heading East and one heading West - we must meet the other civs.

Secondly, I take Arbela with the units on hand - losing 1 cat and 1 horse archer (the last @ 65%). I also sue for peace (20 g + about 10 per turn). Cyrus has too many cities for us to take them without putting a whole bunch of units on his land. That said, by turns end, there are a whole bunch of units on his lands and I think we should continue the fight shortly.

I also whip a whole bunch of buildings (courthouses, libraries, forges) and set most of our cities to hammer production instead of concentrating on food. This activity has hurt our economy so I think that a bit of rebuilding is in order. Hopefully, finding other civs will help our tech rate because we are falling behind.

Finally, we need to turn this game around quicker. I looked at the last time I played (Jun 10th) and that is 16 days ago. Please play your turns or request a skip quicker - it helps everyone stay on tune with what needs to be done.

Looking back on it - war with Cyrus was probably a bad idea ...

1) Our arch enemy is close to getting ships that will enable him to get across to us. We need to start planning for the day he arrives (units to defend the home state, ships to take the war to him). For that, we need techs.
2) We need to form a PA with Gandhi - don't do anything to piss him off (ie declare war on his friend)
3) We didn't spend enough time building up an army (and a navy to carry that army) to deal Cyrus a knock out blow
4) Did we discuss it amounts the group?

Also, I left some units on goto's to a hill in our southern regions. We might think about catching those and sending them back North for our up coming war against our arch enemy.

And I got it, and I will play this in a super fast matter! I have probably allready played!

I checked the save and I am confused.
Ruff, you said, Arbela was taken, but it's not. It's still Persian. Could you be talking about Susa?
