SGOTM 01 - Chaos

That would be a YES (unless either Hookum or Chris actually post here). Where are you - Eastern Europe?

... which is +1 GMT v New York which is -5 GMT thus making 5pm EST, 11pm your time - which is still late but not quite 1am. Anyway - go get 'um and also get us a Defensive Pact (or just jump straight to the PA :D).

Oops, I somehow counted with 7 pm.... Ah well

Inherited turn (1580 AD): Research decreased from 70% to 50%, culture to 10% to counter WW, no loss of research.

Turn 1 (1583 AD): I lose 4 units at Macchu Picchu despite favourable odds.

Turn 3 (1589 AD): I get screwed by combat odds again, but take Ollantaytambo. More units land near Macchu Picchu. I increase research to 60%, 2 turns left now for Scientific Method.

Turn 4 (1592 AD): Machu Picchu is captured, start sending some units to Vilcas.

Turn 6 (1598 AD): This time, my Catapult has 17% odds against a Longbow… and wins:P Capture Vilcas.

Turn 7 (1601 AD): Troops from all directions approach Huamanga, the last Incan stronghold (I thought)

Turn 8 (1604 AD): I besiege Huamanga, and make a trade with Roosevelt, Liberalism for Divine Right and 190 gold.

Turn 9 (1607 AD): Continue siege of Huamanga, increase research to 70%, Military Tradition ready in 2 turns.

Turn 10 (1610 AD):
Huamanga is taken. However, the Incans are not dead, and I find out that they still have an island stronghold. I’ve already sent some galleons to pick up troops.

Population won't be a problem for domination (we have 39% and Gandhi has 19%, 44% total is needed), but we will have to attack another civ (Saladin or Roosevelt) to get enough land (currently 32% and 22% (54% together) with 64% needed. How long do we need a Defensive Pact before we can become Permanent Allies?

got it - playing now.

I trade world maps with Roosevelt (I have to throw in 40 gold) and find ...

I guess there are two cities that we need to take out. I send one of the galleons near our home ports south to the ex-Russian lands and whip two Grenadier (other forces are too far away and the WW is starting to kill us).

I also trade Deer (his) for Spices (ours) with Roosevelt and when Military Tradition comes in (Turn 1), I trade it to him for Corporation, World Map and 30 gold (basically got the gold back that I gave him on Turn 0. I also notice that Gandhi doesn't have Liberalism but the best I can do is World Map and 60 gold - he is probably researching it - I make that trade.

Communism (1 of the techs that opens up a permanent alliance) is due in 8 pre-corporation trade and 7 after the corporation trade. However, given our current economy, we cannot afford to tech that fast.
In 1622, ...

... and so he is down to just 1 city. Then in 1628 ...

 [party] :band:    :bounce:   :trophy: :woohoo:

I imediately sign a Defensive Pact with Gandhi. I dial down research to build up some cash, then back up to 100% to bring in Communism in 4 turns. I then try for the Permanent Alliance when Communism comes in. Unfortunately, Gandhi says "We're doing fine on our own." We should try for the Permanent Alliance each turn. We should not declare war on anyone (will set the PA back). However, he is willing to trade Communism for Replacement Parts, World Map and 80 gold.

I start ferrying our troops to Cyrus's holdings - placing them in Ghandhi's land ...
sgotm01sc0449zi.jpg

I have also started building some troops for this campaign too. However, we cannot start this until we have our PA - this must be our top priority at the moment. Unfortunately, PAs are just a matter of time. I have heard that it sometimes takes 40 turns under a DP before the AI will sign a PA. However, as we shared in a war, the number of turns should be less. I would suggest checking each turn or so.

There are some cities of ours that are under Gandhi culture pressure. We also have some of Gandhi's cities under our cultural pressure. When we sign the PA, you will see those cities jump out and claim their BFC regardless of cultural pressure. This will be really good for our cities but we could lose some gems etc to Gandhi - nothing we can really do about that.

So, there you have it ... the marching orders are just tech, keep Gandhi happy, no offensive wars (but prepare for one the turn after we sign the PA).

Here's another 10 turns that I have done.

1. Trade gold to Gandhi for 3 gpt, switch to state property and that increases our gpt greatly

2. Use engineer to finish west point (don't know if that was planned)

3. zzzz

4. zzzz

5. Steel is researched, switch to steam power because railroad would be nice and no one else has steam power yet

6.zzz

7. I decide that attacking Cyrus is pointless so i move our troops from the persian capital to near Susa (staging point) to prepare for war with Saladin.

8-10zzz

In conclusion, steam power done in 2 turns and we might be able to trade it for something to roosevelt and Gandhi (we still dont have a PA yet)

I mostly built structures to improve our cities like, markets, banks, universities, dry docks etc... I also suggest building iron works in Thebes but it takes 35 turns:cool:

Good turns IP4F (your name's too long;) ). Now, who's up next?

Bahhhhhhhh - this statement had me worried that we would be in another war.

Hi guys,

Just a quick check-in. I mentioned in my last post that I will be out until July 12. Sorry not to have made it more obvious. I'll have internet access from now until then but not Civ access. I scanned everything and it looks good. I'll have more time to look later.

Good luck

Hook 'Em

Hookemhorns: Ok, sorry we missed the post. But hey, this is still Chaos!

Turn 1 (1673 AD): I see no point in constructing Ironworks (35 turns) in Thebes, as with some luck it’ll all be over before it’s of any use to us.

Turn 2 (1676 AD): Steam Power comes in. I don’t really see much point in starting on Railroad either, since we’ll probably be done by the time they become of much use. I start on Assembly Line, we do need Rifling for Infantry as well, however we can probably trade that. Set research to 0% for upgrades first.

Turn 4 (1682 AD):
Enough units upgraded, set research back to 70%, Assembly Line due in 10 turns.

After that there's not much to report. I have arranged a large force in Galleons near Saladin's borders, supported by Frigates (see screenshot). Gandhi's still not ready for a PA, but we're ready to roll over Saladin when he does and win the game.

I don't really know how to go on from here. Shall we continue with 3 players or wait until at least Munterpipe and Hookemhorns come back (July 12th). I don't think we'll get into trouble with our deadline, seeing as the game is nearing its conclusion.

Ai...... Hehe. My mom was screaming outside because our dog was being attacked by another dog (while in fact the other dog only wanted to play) when I was about to upload. Sorry. It's up now

ok then - un-un-got it ... as in I have it.

This one is up for discussion. I did some research on the forum about PAs and found this comment ...

"We're doing fine on our own"
Look at the Power graph again. You're Pact brother must also not be on top or you get this problem.
This means you probably can't gift him your units. If you didn't give him any and he's still on top, then you have to give tech and probably military units to another Civ. One that you don't plan to attack probably. Just a couple units makes a significant jump up on the Power graph, so it's easy.

The whole article is found here. I checked the save and Gandhi is first in power and, thus will never sign a PA with us. We need to give some of our units to Roosevelt - maybe quite a few. How do people feel about that? Assume that we have to give all the units we currently have staged to attack Saladin - what do you think?
