SGOTM 01 - Rat Pack

@acid
I noticed you're up in several SGs.
Some other teams are still in BC.
We can wait, but I'm not the teamleader.

I'd say we can wait here too, SGOTM's usually progress very slow and I guess especially this SGOTM has seen many new players that udnerestomate the committment needed for SG's.
That said, acid, if you can't take it soon, ask for a skip, thanks

Maybe I wasn't clear enough.
I tested the defensive pact between Gandhi and Roosevelt
by declaring war on America and this initiated a war with
the Indians.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have played ahead to try this then you are committed to it. You cannot try things out and then back up to a previous save and choose whether to do them or not.

@AlanH
First,no one knows how permanent alliances exactly work
and I couldn't test it in a custom sologame.
I had an idea, but I think the option ""permanent war or peace"
in the set up is bugged.I never had a permanent war result.
I also don't want to use an option if I don't know the result.

Second,I've also the feeling the permanent alliances are bugged.
I encountered some PA problems before I joined this SGOTM.
See the thread I started.

Btw Alan, you aren't that naive to think everyone plays 100%
clean on the net.Do you?
Look at our team,we have several members who won at Immortal
and still we are doing bad in almost every category.

Yes, I am naive enough to try to ensure a level playing field for all players in the competitions I help to organise. If you don't want to play by those rules, please don't insult my efforts by joining in the competitions and breaking them. Just play solo games according to your own rules.

If you had a question with respect to the way the permanent war and peace were set up then you should have asked.

ok, so if either knupp or acid can play this, we will follow AlanH's point and declare war on America as 'tested' by Tatran. We do honor the rules of this game. So, please from now do not play forward any longer.

I guess I always felt it was ok to test with older saves but not the current one (being careful not to learn new info in playing old save - learning the strength of a potential enemy is bad - trying to duplicate someone elses result for example would be ok - though it best to wait enough turns that any info can't possibly spoil). Since the def pact is new that means we tested with the recent one and so I agree with Alan. We should declare war immediately. Besides Alan is the arbitrar (if that is the right word) of the games and gets to make the calls.

Seems a good way to go anyway. If I was up, I would have probably wanted to test it in the real game. The worse that happens is we end up with a phony war with America and not at war with India.

Agree with ThERat on honoring the rules as well.

I don't know if this is allowed, but we can get Calendar + Polytheism + Archery for peace, but she has also Monotheism + Literature.

Well,no one whined at this comment.Same situation, same person

I 100% disagree to declare war on America and this time I won't follow
the majority.I made enough comments about the permanent alliance
in previous posts and no one gave the info I (we) wanted to know.
So if everyone is consequent the game should be replayed from the
above quote,but

And before I break more it's better I withdraw from this game. It's my mistake and the team
shouldn't suffer because of it.So replay my last turns and make the best out of it.
Also maybe this thread will be less :D

@Alan

for calling you naive.Everyone appreciates your work.

Lurker comment.

It is generally not my buisness and may be bad form, but If you read VQ spoiler thread you will find out that they were asked to continue with piramids after one of member of the team played a bit trying to find out do they have time to build piramids.
So, you are not alone and AlanH try to be fair.

Don't take it too hard, Tatran. Since nobody played after you yet, there has been no harm done, right?
Let's just get on with the show. War with Ghandi should be spicy. :)

It's not the same situation. You can look at trading opportunities without making any commitment. You can only find out what would happen if you declare war by doing it.

I made enough comments about the permanent alliance
in previous posts and no one gave the info I (we) wanted to know.
I'm sorry we didn't pick your comments up from your posts. No reply from us means we didn't see the question, not that we are ignoring it. If something is important enough for you to know then you can ask me or Gyathaar via PM. You'll at least be sure to get a reply then. With 20+ threads to check here, and another 10 in the Civ3 SGOTM, we are not always going to pick up your concerns from within your team thread.

... it's better I withdraw from this game. It's my mistake and the team shouldn't suffer because of it.So replay my last turns and make the best out of it.
I don't believe this is necessary, or a good idea. And now that the information is out there I don't know how you can unlearn it. As your team mates suggest - please play on :D

Alright I can get at this tomorrow. Unless acid can get it before that then I got it.

I will declare war on Washington starting a war with Gandhi. Right now I think the best approach is just to screw everybody and kill the world as soon as we can. :)

knupp, that sounds good. We can't win this game anyway...so might as well screw the whole world starting with Gandhi

Alright, I played 12 turns. They went by so fast, there isn't really much to do.

I declared on Washington so Gandhi declared on us. With all those deals canceled our cities are in ROUGH shape. I sent our stack down south which took a while. I upgraded our two galleys to galleons. We've got a small stack outside of Gandhi's city. We are still shipping over units. We should be able to take the city once we bomb down the defenses.

staged a small campaign against Gandhi burning our obsolete units
took Tarsus first, burned Kolhapur and the last turn took Susa

while sending our units north discovered that Gandhi has cavalry

in 1547 computer dies as usual, reload autosave

got gunpowder and went for a drama detour
went for chemistry, which is due in 5 turns

went for peace with Roosevelt and traded 4 luxes with him giving us 2 happies, thus reducing lux to 0% again

got banking from Cyrus for gunpowder

tried to talk to Gandhi, but it seems we are locked now in a perma war?
and he has cavalry, that ain't so good
we have the choice to burn our units and wait for chemistry and grenadiers to attack and we need pikes for the Cavs for the time being

I think this game has become ridiculous. First we didn't really know how to get Gnadhi on our side. We even gifted him cities to get him on our side. Once he had a permanent alliance with Roosevel, that option was out. Declaring on Roosevelt seem to have resulted in a perma war with Gandhi as well.
Hope we can just get through this game in which ever way :(

Got it. This game feels like my solo attempts on immortal. Outeched, outgunned and probably outmanned as well.
Amazing!

:ack: i accidentaly downloaded the wrong save and was about to ask why Susa still is in Indian hands. Fortunately, i noticed my error in time.

Things look grim. The units outside Susa are most likely toast. We can count ourselfs lucky, if we can capture Bombay. If i can caputre it, i think it is best to raze it. In fact, i think we should raze every city we capture.

There is just no way we can hold our captures, while Ghandi is such a powerhouse.

Inherited Turn:
I debate switching most cities to pikes but decide against. Chemistry comes and 5 turns and whatever pikes we could produce would come too late to secure our Indian captures.
MMed our cities for shields

1
Ghandi cracks open a can of whoopage:
Our mace kills his cat
Our knight gets slaughtered by his cav.
His cav withdraws from our mace.

Not half as bad as i feared it would be.

Two cavs and a 'pult near Susa now. We have 3 maces and two sowrds + a pult. I decide to sacrifice the pult to keep the cavs at bay.
The stack near Bombay is heading nowhere fast. Without pults we have no hope to take the city. What saves us last turn was a mace with Jungle warrior promotion. But it is injured now and we will most likely take a pounding.
There is a nice hill nearby, however. Hill+jungle+river, perfect. Only problem is, that our army needs to cross two grassland tiles to get there.
Ghandi will most likely attack with 4 units next turn, one of which is a pult.
I decide to try and get to the hill. The units are dead anyway, and this way we can do some pillaging.
A town brings us 60 gold.

2
Ghandi is upon us again:

Mace takes out Indian pult.
Knight gets Killed by Indian cav.
Mace dies from Indian cav bullets.

One tile until we reach the hill. A town on the way sponsors our cause with 24 gold.
An english mace bashes the skull of some Indian cav in, which attacked Susa during the IT.

3
This time Ghandi really lays the smack down.
We kill a pult, but our entire stack is slaughtered by a massive assault of cavs. One turn before reaching (relative) safety. Tragic!

Cyrus no longer rules war against Ghandi out because he fears his military might, but because he doesn't like us enough.
I trade gems for 2gpt and gift him horsies.
Still redlined. Cyrus would be useful as sandbag for Ghandi to get us some breathing space.

4
We lose another mace in Susa. One turn until all important Chemistry. War weariness is rasing its ugly head.

5
Susa falls.
Chemistry comes in. Nobody has printing press yet, so i spend the Great Scientist on it. Two turns to go.

6
Huyana sinks our caravel next to his holy city.

7
We learn Printing Press.
Ghadi already has replaceable parts. We can look forward to riflemen soon, i guess.
Research set to scientific method.
It's getting crowded near Tarsus. Our pikes have their first battles against cavs and win 2/3.
Latecomers need not to worry, however, there are still plenty of cavs around to play with.
Dial up Rosi. Turns hout he hasn't figured out Chemistry yet, so i teach him some tricks on how to grow the mullet he so longs for.
In return we get Economics his world map and some money for sweeties. We still have a lock on printing press, as i didn't want to give it away for music.
Once we first wave of Grenadiers arrives, we should change to Free Market.

8
Lose a pike to a cav in Tarsus.
3 cavs are getting ready just out of reach of our pults to butcher us.
Nationalism has spread. It's World Cup time! Let's see if Rosi tells us how to love our country, if we give introduce him to the yellow press...
Nope.. no way he's going to agree. Too bad.

9
Incan caravel sinks itself while trying to sink one of ours.
Indian cav kills a pike.
Another cav loses to a musket.
And it is retribution time! Our knight rides down an injured cav.
Rosi has Printing Press! Damn.

10
We might want to consider switching research to music/military tradition. With only Rosi as trade partner, the usual approach doesn't seem to work too well.
Tarsus is boasting a small army, but no Grenadier has arrived yet. Ghandi is strong but not overpowering. As long as he doesn't ship units to our continent, we should be fine.
