I was under the impression that UN benefit goes to the one who built it and not to the one that controls it. Then again I never lost or took a city with the UN before.
 
I can't find anything in these forums about if its ownership or building of the wonder that confers the control of the UN. Interesting concept tho.


I suspect that like other wonders, its who controls the city that matters and not who builds it. The difference being that you will get voted in as sec gen with the first vote and I also suspect that will hold over until the next general election. A lot depends on the logic in the code behind voting and the UN.
 
Well, I imagine the sec gen stays until the next general vote. This is because population can change; if the #1 pop Civ builds the UN, and after the sec gen vote #3 passes #2 in pop, the former #2 would stay sec gen (because what if they swap places again?). Then when the next sec gen election comes up, it could be a different opponent. So I would think a swap in who holds the UN would work the same as a swap in population position.

AFAIK the one who holds the city with the UN is automatically eligible. But I've never conquered or lost a city with the UN in it.

2000 beakers is about 3 turns research, when will the Iron works become available? Can we spare the 3 turns? In actuallity It is 3 turns on 100% so that is atleast 6 or 7 turns.... maybe more...

On UN how far is that ? In tech cause I think we can take normal domination before we reach UN, Dont know about Gandhi tho.... I dont think we can realisticaly think about getting the UN before Gandhi :(

TPTB (the employers) ask one to do the strangest things (i.e. work instead of CIV :lol:)

Now that I think about it, building UN and gifting it to FDR in order for us to win the game would be high-larious. I wonder if there's a way we can work towards that without screwing us up if we missed.

EDIT: BTW, it's a good idea to go Universal Sufferage now. Baldy is likely to go Free Religion at some point, and we'll want the Civics bonus to (eventually) replace the Religion bonus.

So it's quiet......here's some noise

I have built the UN and lost out due to votes from second party whilst I was in 1st position. What is necessary are friends to get the majority vote. IMHO go for Pentagon and pass on UN. Ghandi will build it why waste hammers on the UN when you are at war. The Pentagon makes more sense (if it's available still). You can see if it has been built by accessing the graph screen and to wonder/cities. You have a long road ahead for domination and do you self a favour watch the diplomacy screen. For UN Ghandi will be against you and Roosevelt/Cyrus will likely vote for him. So unless you get PA with Ghandi it's going to be difficult. Would you have enough for domination Saladin/Roosevelt is possible. Sometimes that domination can be tricky, as you are well aware of, that it can be out half 1 percent meaning to take someone out or settle some more whilst the competition is growing still too. Tricky....

Saladin does appear to be extremely weak so as already stated it's a mop-up. Tech wise you need to do some trading/infrastructure as soon war is over with Saladin. (or earlier during war-time)

Heres the kicker though FDR will sign a DP with someone whilst you are warring. Hopefully it's only Cyrus not Ghandi.

EDIT: what I meant regarding the UN is you don't necessarily control it having built it. If the other party gets the majority he/she controls it. Gift it to FDR how would you do that gift the city too? There is a lapse from building to voting so maybe then gifting it. If that means city too YUK.
 
By the time we conquer Saladin, we should be big enough to win the Sec Gen vote every time, so I'm not really worried about accidentally losing Diplo--unless we know we're going to win, there's no reason to have a win vote.

Yes, you'd have to gift the city too; however, one city is a small price to pay for a victory 2 turns later.
 
Well... I'm satisfied with my time as benevolent dictator. I didn't kill as much as I'd like, but I'd like to think I left the world in a better place. Maybe.


Turn 0: I checked around and find out that Ghandi will jump all over Saladin for the low, low price of just 1020 gold. Kinda steep since that would cut into our Steel research which G doesn't have yet...

Turn 1: His price jumped to 1030 and our treasury dropped down (100% research and all)

Turn 2: Baldy converts to Free Religion (and of course emancipation)... I check and we can no longer afford to bring him on board with us as we only have 768g in the bank. :( We've got workers all over the place with just about nothing to do. So I axe 3 of em to make the others work harder.

Turn 4: Steel comes in and I queue up Steam Power.
Baldy will jump in for Steel, but I don't want to give up the monopoly just yet, plus I'd hate to lose a city to Baldy. I did also note that Cyrus and FDR have signed another DP. I've got my forces very close to Baghdad and of course Saladin throws a counter attack... Since I had been a bit greedy, my mounted force were closing on the lightly defended Basra with only Macemen covering my cats. Thank god the maces hung on. Lost all but one of our CR3 ball and chain boys. I quickly brought the mounted group back to defend the cats and begin the siege of Baghdad.

Turn 5:
Baldy asks for Steel for free. I have to say no.
Cyrus asks for Steel in exchange for Rifling + 20g + world map. FDR has popped Steel, so my monopoly is gone. Better to get what I can for it.
I dial up Baldy and ask what he'll give me for Steel... Constitution + 80g + world map. That's nice as it would get us closer to democracy, but I'd rather work towards the PA. So I give him Steel to declare on Saladin. Hate to think we miss the PA by 5 turns....

IBT More counters by Saladin. He's really throwing a lot at us. The cavalry really does save the day tho.

Turn 6: one bombardment takes the defense of baghdad to 0. It was awesome to see. Forgot how many cats were upgraded.

Turn 7: In one swift turn, we capture Baghdad (and another worker):

Also in this turn the Copper near Sidon finally becomes ours. Two turns later its culture popped, but copper remained ours (they got more sea spaces).

Turns 8 - 12: I'm doing my best to set things up for a quick fall of Saladin, at least along the coast where Ghandi can strike. I've only seen frigates from him so far, but I haven't been watching FDR's coast. FDR has a -1 to ghandi now for declaring on his friend. I don't know that we can bribe FDR into a war against Saladin for two reasons:
1) We don't have much he wants
2) He still really likes Saladin
Additionally, if we're going to milk this war against Saladin to get the PA with Baldy... we should probably try to reduce Saladin to one interior city and wait until the last moment to kill it (ie Baldy at the gates). FDR is land route based to it so we couldnt' really hold him back. (Psyco thought: gift El-Amarna to Saladin for peace. Very VQ04 I know, but we control the area around it and we would be making a nice trade of sites. Does keep war wearieness and return to fatherland around tho).

We're in great spots to take two cities next turn Basra and Mecca (be sure to capture Basra first so it doesn't suddenly become the capital on us!)

Builds in city wise? I tried to keep our income increasing. I did get three more religions to Thebes, but its 2 turns away from West Point. I put the Ironworks (started) in our second biggest hammer site with Cuzco. No units were built during my turn with the exception of one Frigate and the missionaries that were queued up.

Research is at 60% with a small loss. I'm not real big on the MM of the research, sorry!

I can't imagine that it doesn't; the whole purpose of the UN is to guarantee that you're one of the candidates.

I too hope that Mutual Struggle/DP is cumulative. We'll find out, I guess (I bet Gandhi makes peace at some point).
