SGOTM 01 - V Q

Well I played, and this is my log :sad:

I start off with an MM session... I find this:

We may be in for some free pop, Did we spread Judaism there? If so?? Why??

These are the most important MM-things:
Thebes => Fire Engineer (18=>8), 2 Plainshills => Food (8=>4)
Yakuts => 11=>4
Moscow => Now grow in 2 (forget to note the original)
Alexandria => Fire the scientist (6=>3)
Pi-Rameses => Fire all specialists (159GP point to go and at 18 per turn = 8 turns. I hope we win before that) and MM the mines to food. (31=>2)
Giza => Mines and specialists (+2f => +10f and grow in 1)
Novgorod => Stagnent=> 5
Vitcos => 8=>2
Tinana => 4=>2
Vilcabamba +3f => +9f (grow in 1)
Cuzco => 31=>3
Cori...something => 9=>5

:mad: I hate myself, I forget to cancel the deals with Gandhi and Cyrus. In 1794 Gandhi cancels our Hitsingles deal and reminds me... So I Cancel all the deals and up our excisting Gem deal with FDR 1gpt

Directly after Gandhi want to trade Dye for Gems. What did I just do? Cancel... So would I want it NO...

Save the GAME.... in 1794 and in 1796...

Save the game for 1796... And... NO YOU ARE KIDDING RIGHT?

Just 4 votes short??? Well atleast allready our Votes seriously increased (19) and Ghandi got 4 extra votes. FDR on the other hand lost 1. Cyrus remained the same...

1800 our research finishes. I select Biology to the next but dont revolt yet. Because I want the culture to continue to try and flip something for more votes...

*chit* sorry guys I have to run :eek: Something come up... I will finish the log later...

You didn't have to cancel gems for dye, that's going to hurt us by taking away some of our happiness. The only deals I thought we should eliminate are the ones that give Gandhi and Cyrus :health: (including the ones they get with a grocer).

Why not revolt? We're spiritual, we won't lose any turns doing so. And if you want culture, have we gotten liberalism yet? If so, let's switch to Free Speech for 100% culture.

The only city we might be able to flip that would help us is Hyberabad (spelling?) ... there's no point in flipping an FDR city since he's voting for us anyway.

Well considering we lost by 8 votes the first time and now 4 votes, we are almost there.

After we get biology, we might want to crank up the culture slider so we can try to get the Indian and Persian city in our homeland. I really hope we would win before then though. Also if we get the American city it would help us, since we would be able to grow it much faster than the Americans can since there is hardly any spaces it can work right now.

If it comes to it, maybe we should build Settlers and create a bunch of Naras to increase our population. I suggest making at least Nara1 through Nara5. :)

Building Naras.... might take away food growth time. Plus where would you put them?

There is an island just south of HC land with two fishes ... that will give us some quick pop. Otherwise, we have some tiles in the original land that is not in any city's BFC, can also be used to create fats 1-2 pop cities.

The game should end in the next turnset ... let's break 50 pages of posts by ten ... :cooool:

If you can build a settler in less turns than a city can grow, we don't lose anything. As to where we can put them, any place there is an extra place. We don't have to make them grow past 1.

Its just wrong that a win may come due to Nara 1, Nara 2, Nara 3..... blargh!!!

Well offcourse my turnset continues... :lol: sorry to leave you guys hanging like this...

Nothing much happenes till 1804, I like up some builds, including some Christian missionaries in an attempt to convert Cyrus if we can... and/or need...

As Gandhi compleets Holywood in 1804 I get a new shot at voting... Wow, I hadnt expected to get another voting chance... As we are running 60% and +31gpt we have 7 turns left on Biology as the vote is published in 1806

We win the vote right on the money... Not 1 vote to spare...

Some highlights of the replay...

And some usual stuff...

Looks to me as if you are using the wrong upload page. The page you are using is complaining that you are submitting a Civ4 file and it's expecting a Civ3 file. Try the Submit C-IV SGOTM page instead?

BTW, you will not see your final save appear in the results or on the graphs, because we suppress the final save to try to limit the poiler information available to other teams. You'll have to post the link here for other team members to get to it.

Those jumps in culture are because of a great artist's great work.

Wow, the exact number of votes! I dare anybody to try to do that :lol: . Then again I think I've only won once diplomatically.

Great, now I can check out the other threads now too!

I should have included my congratulations on a successful finish :D :thumbsup:

We win!

[party] :dance: :banana: :band: :woohoo: :dance: :beer:

Nice work on getting the exact vote! It's a good thing that was our plan all along (...goes to change a post on the first page...)

CONGRATULATIONS!

:cheers:

Some post-game analysis

- We had been doing well initially, I think our first starting city was the most brilliant choice of all (given that we have a full 120 posts of debate before making that one single decision!).

-- I think we had been a little sloppy after that. The war with Cathy dragged too long, although we did get ourselves some techs. IMHO, we were too hasty in the war, not well-prepared. A more well-prepared campaign would have killed cathy in 2 wars instead of 3. The first would have milked us the technology, and the second kill cathy off. That would lead to better GNP for the later part of the game.

-- After Cathy, we did the best we could, and the war of HC was an example of a well-prepared one. Although we got lucky once or twice, but I think it was a good war. I'm surprised by HC's medicore defenses. Look at the graph: he lead us GNP wise. The only explanation I can give is his lack of production.

- The war with Saladin is again a bit hasty, but we were forced into it. I think it was the correct move. We did well in there, dragging in Gandhi and all that.

- The later phrase of dipomatic win race was simply superb.

In all, an educational game. Learn sometnhing in almost every facet of the game: warring, diplomacy, and the working of permanent alliances.

EDIT: and also learnt that I still can't type.

Sweet!! :dance:

Good game all! This was tons of fun, a great challenge to overcome. I applaud everyone for some great turnsets! :clap:

Now as we await SGOTM2, it's on to VQ06a! On to VQ06b!

Team One has come to the conclusion reading through the threads (I haven't done it yet) that the teams that went for the Pyramids made the wrong move. Not sure if I'm convinced that's true, but that could've been part of our slow start.

I think what killed our chances at the Golden Laurels was the nitpicking about city placements in Cathy's lands. She got settlers out faster, so we basically had to conquer a bunch of cities twice. So I recommend in SGOTM-2 that we just keep the cities :D

If you look at Team One's cities pre-HC, not only did they conquer Cathy quickly, they actually got across the water and settled before Cyrus got there. That head start allowed them to get to HC earlier but more importantly they got Chemistry just in time to wipe out FDR and Saladin.

That being said, after a couple early missteps I think we did pretty dang well. HC and Sally went down easily and the diplo win was choice. We're not going to get the Golden Laurels, but who cares? We're still up for the Wooden Spoon! :D

...and we have a lot of free time to play VQ06a and b ... assuming Maquis ever starts the threads like he said he would last night :rolleyes: ;)

And don't you forget about VQ05, ChrTh! :mischief:

hmmm ... we failed at our target of 1000 posts before winning .... but since technically we had not yet win (the save was not yet uploaded), we still had a couple of hours before namliaM wakes up and post the save to hit 1000th posts.

I'm waiting for other people to comment before I finish playing, if y'all would stop goofing around ... :rolleyes:

;)

I think the fact that we were too slow to expand and get our first cities out there led us to declare war with Cathy when we weren't ready. After Cathy was taken down I think we played the best strategy we could.

So, I think we need to get our second and third cities founded faster.

woot, congrats!

I really enjoyed reading your teams comments and strategies. Overall I think you guys did really well, a lot better than I could've :P
