SGOTM 01 - V Q

Report is going to be light on details because I have to pack tonight :)

Ok, I'm going to finish Sailing, just because I think it'll be more benificial to us sooner than later (since we'll be able to use it to get around Cathy's jungle).

Looking through the diplo screens: Cathy is currently denied Horses and Iron. That'll change once Yekaterinburg hooks them up, but at least that indicates those are (possibly) her only source.

Looking at Techs, HC is up Meditation, Poly, Sailing and Math. Cathy is up the same except Poly. HC also obviously has Code of Laws since he's Confused. That means he also has either Currency or Priesthood, although I think Priesthood is more likely. Neither have Alphabet.

It's obvious we're behind and need to catch up in techs. I switch to Math ... we'll worry about Sailing later. We'll probably need to go for currency afterwards, although I still like the idea of going for Metal Casting, but at 51 turns I don't know if it's worth it.

Turn 0 -- 340 BC

Nothing to change, everything looks good.

Turn 1 -- 325 BC

Peace Treaty is over.

Memphis: Archer > Research. This shaves 9 turns off of Math, and we can't afford any more soldiers. I send the Archer down to Sugar City Site.

Turn 2 -- 310 BC

:coffee:

Turn 3 -- 295 BC

I think the mountains were a trick. Looks like it's just ocean.

Turn 4 -- 280 BC

:coffee:

Turn 5 -- 265 BC

I start pre-building cottages for Sugar City.

Turn 7 -- 235 BC

Toynbee compiles his Largest Civilizations of the World. We're 5th (puny). Cathy is 7th (Hopeless), and HC is 4th (Mediocre).

 Yekaterinburg's culture has pushed back on Heliopolis, losing us the cows and cottage

Turn 8 -- 220 BC

Thebes completes his settler. Starts a Granary (which will finish before Thebes grows again)

Turn 10 -- 190 BC

Elephantine is built. Starts Library.

I whip Heliopolis' Library.

Turn 11 -- 175 BC

Helipolis: Library > Barracks

Ok, this is odd ... Catherine converts to Buddhism? :hmm: ... she must've met someone else, methinks! (It's not HC, I checked)

Turn 13 -- 145 BC

Heliopolis got the cows and cottage back.

Turn 14 -- 130 BC

:coffee:

Turn 15 -- 115 BC

Ok, Math is due in 2. Our science is currently 50% at +2gpt. I think our infra is a little better at this point, but I'd recommend holding back on the whip as it seems our cities are slow growers.

To give you an idea of how non-dramatic my turn was, here's the upload turnlog:
Here is your Session Turn Log from 340 BC to 115 BC:

Turn 154, 190 BC: Elephantine has been founded.
Turn 154, 190 BC: Catherine converts to Buddhism!

:shake:

And yes, the Mountains were red herrings.

Save is on the Results page, still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

EDIT: Oh yeah, we should probably have the Workboat work the fishes now for the extra health.

Very nice that looking up HC's Techs did work. And on 51 turns on Metal Casting ... :nope: ... I obviously underestimated Monarch.

--> Maybe she recently founded another city and Buddhism did only reach her via coastal trade??? AFAIK it needs neither missionaries nor the 'concious' encounter with another Civ to have :religion: spread in one of your cities.

She still has the same 3 cities ... it's possible that it comes by trade routes, but I thought you could only start a trade route with a city you knew? ... don't know for sure. However, if Cathy has met someone, and has opened borders, then I imagine we'd meet them pretty quick.

Man. I should go to  Correct, she does need to have open borders for that. Never experienced anything else. So you might already have to deal with ... you declared war on our friends

Interesting that she has met somoene.... maybe we're not alone on the continent. I only :worship: it is our always Peace civ. That way they won't go after us for taking Cathy out

Oh wow, I missed a lot. Yet, I can't understand german and the acronyms very well, so not much I missed excluding those :p

Might want to check the religious advisor to see who has the Buddhist holy city so we can have an idea of who it might be that Cathy came in contact with.

@GreyFox I think that's a perfectly good excuse to not be able to do your turns. This is for you

Isn't hatschi creative and spiritual? What do you mean by waring, then?

@ChrTh Thanx for considering my thoughts on Metal Casting as good.
Goal: Early win by Domination, What is it we need? Yes more land => war....
=> Warring nation

What's a what about changing what signature? Lost me somewhere Dot :)

ChrTH did ask for ideas... and since I cannot play CIV, I must think about it ...

Report should be up so I flip the page....

@eektor, if we dont know the person and/or cannot see the city. It is listed as Unknown IIRC...

About religion, I have had my religion spread to a place I didnt know excisted on the other side of a Great Plains map... But I did know that China was somewhere ...

So I think atleast Cathy has to have met another civ, somewhere... All the more reason to go floating...

About HC, I think he founded another religion as well, Juda or Hindu, I seem to remember that somewhere...

If we cannot build anything but research that makes sence, but we still have a few towns to settle right? Why no settler build?

Math => Curency (Should help on the economy) => CoL (even more help)

On open borders and religions.

I checked some of my early game saves. And I have to correct myself on open borders and religion. It seems that I had religion spread without having open borders. You only need to have a trade route. And AFAIR I met Civs that already had converted to my religion without me reckoning that. But don't take this as gospel ... it's just what I could conclude from some of the saves of my games.

Isn't construction as expensive as metal casting by # of :science: ?

I'm keen to see what GreyFox will find out. Hope you'll have a good set (@GreyFox). :)

@namliaM: Forget about the signature. My german tends to be too complex or rather confused :crazyeye: sometimes.

@GreyFox: I switched to Math because of its flexibility. We can go with Currency if you'd rather build or Construction if you'd rather fight.

Well ... would building the Hanging Gardens then be an option to those who actually play? Because you'll have double building time (due to stone) and if build in Thebes you'll double the output of GE ... :hmm:
Not to mention the instant growth of all - hitherto build - cities.

Yes, Hanging Gardens would be an option; the only negative about HG is that you have to build the Duct first, and I think there might be higher priorities at this time.

I think there might be higher priorities at this time.

Yes, there might be, but I for one like HG. Starting off with 2 pop in a new city is a huge advantage, as well as growing a captured city by one. SInce our goal is Domination (or Diplomacy) the more population the better.

I just wouldn't want to rule it out at this point... It may be very helpful.

Oh no, I wasn't ruling it out. I would love to get HG (and Colossus). My concern is locking one city into a long build (Duct > HG) while the Cathy situation was still volatile.

Speaking of the Cathy situation, didn't GreyFox say he'd be playing 'within the hour'? ;)

EDIT: Looks like he just played and did FAB-u-LOUS!

2ND EDIT: Of course, we should also be generating a Great Engineer at some point. Maybe Hanging Gardens would be a good build for that.

Time for a new King in Egypt, Time for a Change.

First Change: Memphis's researcher is fired and asked to go home and make baby.

Second Change: Helipolis's cottage inhabitant is chased out to the sea and asked to go pick some clams (for growth).

vqsgotm01-BC0115-helipolis.jpg

Third Change: one worker is caught and charged with Treason ... he was summarily judged guilty and promptly executed.

vqsgotm01-BC0025-delete-worker.jpg

Forth Change: Alexrandria was built:

vqsgotm01-AD0035-Alexandria.jpg

Fifth Change: Egyptian now know how to count:

vqsgotm01-BC0070-maths.jpg

Sixth Change: there is no more changes.

...

Did someone requested a view of Thebes? Well, you know what? Today is your lucky day. Not only you get to view Thebes real close, we throw in a pair of legs with short skirt to whet your whatever desire as well ...

And here is the resource map:

---

I am building one more settler. You can go for the eastern desert tile. Workers are already sent farming there. But, someone need to build the workboats.

I am also practicing binary research ... as evident from the 100% research at the time of save (edit: or was it 0%? couldn't remember).

Whip the sugar city once it is whippable.

Save Helipolis for cats whipping once it become available.

re HG: Too late, already played, so no Adequct built.

I tot u are out of pocket? Not going for holiday afterall?

If you read the OOP post in the OOP thread, I have PC access until Noon EDT :p

it will be somewhere between 9 to 348 turns

That's ... what I was afraid of.

Do we want to build the Duct somewhere so we can GE-rush to HG? Do we know how long until we pop a GE?

binary research as in one turn 100% and the other turn 0%?

Looking good I definitely will send our settler to the fish and flood plains site.

As for construction, does that mean we have 18 turns left? Well we wouldn't have construction in my turn set, so probably next person up will be able to go to war.

Do we want to build the Duct somewhere so we can GE-rush to HG? Do we know how long until we pop a GE?

Good idea there... I would think we're getting closer to getting the next GE? This would be a great use of that engineer IMO. Since we would also be netting more engineer GPP.
