Notre Dame is an interesing idea... (not sure if we have, or how far away from Music? I see we traded for Drama.)
Here's a couple thoughts... first off, the on each city is nice in itself. What interests me more is the +10 culture and artist GPP. We sure could use some heavy culture down in one of the southern cities (maybe Yaktusk?)
The sooner we can pump out some culture, the sooner those AI cities will get all flippity...

As I posted earlier ... Theology might be an alternative since it has two major benefits in my eyes ...
1) If you change to Theocracy - once you've got hinduism spread - your units will all gain 2XP. This does work with naval units, too. That might be nice for defence. And Theocracy is cheaper than OR.
2)The Sistine Chapel is giving +2 per specialist in all of your cities. That is making each artist a +6 'superman' iirc. Not to mention the +10 in the very city where you've build it.
If HC's cultural borders are letting him get to our shores (potentially) then anything we can do to push that border back (using our superior creative trait) will add to our defense...

I don't know whether HC has the Colossus or not but the tiles shown in his cultural borders do have three . So they might be coastal tiles ... which would mean, that ... ... Did anybody yet check out if they're sea tiles or coast?
OK if you checked ... because him being financial does not explain three on ocean tiles. Financial is only giving +1 for tiles that already yield two - which ocean doesn't iirc. So he's the one who's built the Colossus

In the year 1244 AD, Lord Eektor was elected Pharoah of the Egyptians. During his reign he noticed a disturbing influence of Indian and Persian influence in the homeland of his Egyptian people. Unlike most of his forefathers, Lord Eektor was a pacifist. He decided not to conquer the regions of influence, but to overwhelm them with Egyptian culture so they would be assimilated into the Egyptian empire. He ordered theatres and libraries to be built around the empire.
In 1268 AD, Lord Eektor held a meeting with Ghandi of the Indians in the city of Yakutsk. After a long discussion, Ghandi converted Lord Eektor in his religion, Hinduism. Lord Eektor finally felt complete. Praise be to Brahman! On his arrival to Thebes, he went around talking about his newfound faith and the people in the capital were eager in everything he had to say. Lord Eektor had a new purpose in life. That purpose was to convert as many people in his empire to Hinduism. Since he was the Pharoah he could not go around himself spreading the word, but he had a plan. He trained and spent money supporting missionaries of the Hindu faith to go around and spread the word.
Everything went well in the empire. Lord Eektor was generating good karma for the Egyptian people. His karma was so good that the people in the city of Moscow discovered a new source of gold in the year 1316 AD.
Lord Eektor finally retired in the year 1334 AD. His reign was known as a renaissance period for the empire. A time where culture and religion flourished throughout the empire.
Anyways, nothing really happened during my turns. I concentrated on getting libraries and theatres in the cities that needed to work on the culture. Here is my manual turnlog:

The new source of gold!
A little more information on the Incans.
Could it be the possible Indian homeland?
Persian and Indian cities are starting to feel the cultural pressure.
I was thinking about that before. But now I think Ghandi might not be too happy about that.
Oh and right now the only one that has astronomy is Ghandi. So when we get Astronomy, we could see if we can trade it to anyone. Maybe get Music as one of the techs if we want to build Notre Dame.
Good job spreading hinduism. But remember, each city converted add 1 gold to Gandhi's confers, so keep monitoring his gold per turn available, and keep increasing the price of our gems.
We should start shiftng gear back to an equal mix of building/troops/navy.
I think its time to prepare for an overseas invasion. It could be the Incans, or it could be the Persians. Persians is the easier target, I think. It depends on which victory condition we want. If we want diplomatic (backdoor), then invade HC. Hopefully we can assimilate enough of populations from HC land to win use a diplo against possible rival Gandhi. If we want domination, then Persians might be the better choice right now (since sooner or later, we have to invade him).

I think burocracy is way overdue, we should have picked up CS a long time ago... I seem to remember we were aiming for a CS slingshot a looooong time ago...
Nice turns GreyFox, Yep yep yep, nice trading. MC is long overdue as well... Maybe we should find that one unkown civ?
We should get Baldy involved against HC not Cyrus, Cyrus is ours
We just need to get the rep between Baldy and Cyrus low enough so we dont get the -1 Dowed a friend thing...
On civics, something we didnt do before... If we are going on a unit spree again, lets change to Police state.
1) Bonus on building units (right)
2) Less WW.
3) If/when we start to move on HC lets make friends with his neighbour and build up a force there.... while having OBs

Yep, that's it. Which is good because he won't be rushing to Astronomy then ... unless invading us is more important to him.
[rant]I have never seen an AI avoid a tech just because it would render a wonder obsolete, one of the things that need fixing in the AI [/rant]
@Eektor: Nice and quite set...
1) Why wasnt that lib whipped at Novgorod? Looks like it would have finished a good while ago then... More culture
2) Yakutsk, is that all cultured out? Lib+Theatre?
@All I think we want to keep Hyderabad if it flips right?
I would think so ... no point wasting a perfectly good city which can actually work on gems. Plus you don't want a "-2: You razed our city" from Gandhi, do you?
Eektor has already built one caravel, without another in the process of building. I say we build more and go exploring. Find out how strong Cyrus/HC really is/are before moving against him/them.

I wouldn't advise whipping Novogod unnecessarily. Unlike Pi-Ramesses, Novgod cannot grow so fast. Plus, it has all the cottages. Plus it is only size 3. Let it grow. And, cultural flip is not something you can say "I want this city to flip" and in 10 turns, you did something to make it flip. except of-course a cultural bomb. Culture takes time to build up, so I don't see the necessity to whip it and sacrfice all those cottages waiting to be worked on.
Same for Yakutsk.
I seriously don't see why the urgency in building cultural buildings. One or two, such as temple or theatre is needed early, yes. Thereafter, things like courthouses, forges where instant benefits would be seen, should take priority.
I looked in the wikipedia to try to get some references on Hinduism, since I had no clue what that religion was about.
As for the Indian city, that city I think would be the first to flip. The Persian city might take some time.
For Yakutsk, IIRC I think it could use one more culture building (Library), but I wanted to get the courthouse out to improve our finance first.
Novgorad, I thought this city would be great for commerce and still has room to grow. It has mostly cottages and I was building some windmills for it too. Right now the Persian city is starting to feel the culture of Novgorad and Moscow. Soon Yakutsk will be pressuring it too.
As for taking a preference for culture, although I did build a lot of theatres and library, I did build a lot of forges and some harbors and courthouses too.
Right now Thebes and Helio are building a missionary. I think when the missionary in Helio is done, we can start producing at least one more caravel. I would advise to send the caravel and check out the Indian and Persian lands. While the new one can be sent to HC.
As for who to take out for domination, most likely Persians, Indians, and Americans would have more than 36% of the land. But if we are successful in getting a PA with the Indians, then I think Persians and Americans will have less than 36%. So, first thing first should be Incans so we don't get some negative modifiers with our relation with the Indians.
