SGOTM 01 - V Q

I will be skipped if eektor can grab it before I do.

Unlikely though :mischief:, since I was back to the hotel (which thankfully, is offerring free internet access) tonight at 9pm and was able to play another SG. So, I don't foresee any problem playing tomorrow night.

Nice job :hammer: saladin and getting Mecca ... but a :nono: losing a city. On the maybe brighter side, does it gives us extra gold for capturing a second time?

Here's what I'm thinking:

Finish off Sally. Immediately create a DP with Gandhi. Build up troops in prep for assault on FDR, but I won't pull the trigger. That way we can blame GreyFox if something goes wrong :groucho: ;) ... but seriously, it'll give us time to discuss how we want to go forward.

:( On 2nd though ... just skip me, eektor

Seriously, that's what I am thinking too. I seriously doubt I will get any action unless Maquis set ChrTh up very badly. I was looking forward to a builder's turns getting our militray up, then we can see if we can get PA and kill Gandhi off.

:twitch: ... guys, I may need a skip. I was trying to load the save at lunch and my PC started having issues (not with the save, just in general). I've had this before and I had to reinstall from scratch, so I'm not sure when it's going to be fixed. I'll keep everyone updated when I'm available to play again.

Sorry

ack... I guess then eektor is up now, unless GreyFox can take it... but I assume GF won't be able to take it for ~15 hrs or so?

Nice job Maquis.

 Yikes! Two people wanting skips? I wasn't expecting that. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to play until Wednesday night, so maybe we wait?

"Hey Murphy! :gripe: What the heck are You doing here??? Haven't seen You nominated for the VQ-Team!"

... but seriously, it'll give us time to discuss how we want to go forward.
Well ... so I'll be waiting for the discussion to start ;) If I do find the time I'll try to post a "script of hitherto mentioned alternatives" tonite*. If one of you will be doing something alike - That's fine with me ;).

Regards, .

*My tonite will be around your 8PM I think ...

Opps, sorry, bob, I mean FDR. Not Gandhi :p ..

Sorry abt your comp, ChrTh.

But how long would a re-install take anyway? 2 hrs top to reformat and reinstall Windows, 1 hrs max to reinstall Civ4 and patch up to 1.61, and you are back in the loop!

Anyway, I should be able to take it tonight (14~15hrs).

I see get to have some action in killing Sally-Wrappedhead afterall. Plans is to finish off Saladin: leaving him with one city until Gandhi finally is in a position to take the city. Basically playing the same HC/FDR trick on Sally/Gandhi.

Thereafter, we can sign DP and rebuild army. Once we are ready to take on FDR, kill cyrus and take as much city from FDR as possible and win dominantly. The key question here is when would we be ready. That, can be discussed.

Pfft. I am a professional ... why spend 3 hours fixing the computer that way when I can spend 30 hours trying every little thing possible to fix it! :shake:

Be careful, we wait too long the WW could cripple us. Of course, wait long enough and we can PA with Gandhi and win :D

I wonder if time in a mutual struggle + time in a DP would work .... or is it just one or the other?

My guess is that it's cumulative, doesn't seem like it'd be fair otherwise.

BTW, one thing I did see before my comp decided to go on holiday: Gandhi was still saying "not long enough" against the PA rather than "too powerful", so apparently the AI can sign up with a #1 team (in a test scenario I ran, I got "too powerful" first, even though "not long enough" was relevant as well).

iirc, bob did the MS starting in his turn 5, so it'd be 17 turns so far. It's 40 turns at Normal Speed for DP, so we're guessing 60 for Epic. However, the Mutual Struggle bonus might kick in sooner (if it is non-cumulative).

Shouldn't someone (else) be able to check the XML?

I took a look at the XML, but didn't really have much luck at understanding the permanent alliance. I do believe that Gandhi won't be able to sign a PA when his attitude is below Pleased or Pleased and below. Some help that gives :D

Some Governing Stuff

As with all change of rulership, this one is no different: there will be gripes. The new ruler is dismayed by the lack of military, lack of monastry (yet we are learning SciMeth in 3 turns) ... so, a revolution is planned. However, since some Hindu cities of Egypt are still building infrastructure, the revolt to Theocracy is delayed until these buildings are completed.

Research is another matter. All scientists are exterminated. Instead, orders are made to learn us railroad (for better troop movement, for something to let the idling workers do, and for better defend units).

All About Gandhi

Once upon a time, there is a baldy named Gandhi.
Surprised that he is getting spices from us for 1 gpt

vq-sgotm01-ad1730-gandhi-trade.jpg

So it was increased to 2 gpt,
which was 10 turns later further increased.

He soon tell us all cool civ run universal sufferage,

vq-sgotm01-ad1732-gandhi-ask-civic.jpg

and so I tell him,
it will be a real suffer-age,
if we make the conversion he asked.
And he came showing off,
his new infantry units.
And I am most grateful than ever,
that he is our always peace buudy.

vq-sgotm01-ad1750-gandhi-inf.jpg

War Report

Relatively less action in my entire 10 turns,
since target is to drag unit we get permanent alliances.
On top of that.
we have pitiful military IMHO.

Sally then provides me,
the best entertainment ever,
when he asked for peace,
with a whooping amount of gold

vq-sgotm01-ad1744-saladin-peace-off.jpg

Too bad Firaxis didn't provide an option,
that says: ROTFLMAO!

To show him we meant business,
I promptly have city of Kurfah was captured:

vq-sgotm01-ad1744-capture-kufah.jpg

Lastly, like to draw your attention,
to the city of damascus.
It has only one tile,
so I whip the hell out of it,
Since we are going to lose one pop every turn anyway.

vq-sgotm01-ad1744-damascus.jpg

To show you how lucrative a PA is,
I end this report with the victory conditions.

Nice work there Grey. Always fun to get offered 10 gold not to attack... and then get 133 gold for capturing a city... Maybe Saladin should think about offering more (or not upgrading units before making the offer).

We don't have the land mass covered quite yet for the PA to be an auto win... but darn tootin close. Sally is down to 1 or 2 cities now?

Has Ghandi shown up with any land units yet or are we still just seeing frigates?

Ok, so we've been in a MS for 27 turns. I say we drag this war out as long as possible to get the PA. If Gandhi makes peace, maybe we need to go to war with Cyrus and get Gandhi on board.
