SGOTM 03 - Smurkz

Ok, well done!
I think you missed a trade opportunity on turn 0 which cost us a turn of research, but oh well.

It seems I miscalculated the build time of Apollo, because I thought at that time that "double production with Aluminum" means what it says. I now know that the Firaxis meaning of "double" is "+1". In hindsight we should have researched Rocketry before the Robotics path.

We could speed up Apollo by switching research to Biology now. Switch two of Kievs citizens away from farms to workshops (steal one from Vlad). This will lose 3 fpt, but Biology will come in just before starvation and stabilize the situation. And Apollo will be done in 16 turns instead of 20.

Mining the Uranium at Mozcow might be worth it. It trades two gold for two hammers.

The GA will help on Mass Media which is useless indeed. Will this change as we uncover more techs? Otherwise we could save him for a Golden Age, or add him as Artist to Shanghai (gold + culture).

Alex and Mozcow need more happiness. Temple?

There's a lot of gold available from the AI.

State property might be good towards the end, when there's nothing left to research: workshops all over the place!

Research: Switch to Biology (will complete in four turns)

Keiv: Take a workshop from Vlad and move two farmed grass citizens to workshops. Will shave four turns off of Apollog and cause the city to earn +3 :food:/t. When Biology is complete we'll be at 1 :food: so we will not lose any population.

Great People: Save the artist for a possible GA. The engineer from Fusion can either be used for a GA or if threatened to do a partial rush on the UN to make sure we're a candidate.

Techs Needed:
  • Fusion (7 turns)
  • Biology (4 turns)
  • Refrigeration (4 turns)
  • Genetics (7 turns)
  • Satalites (6 turns)
  • Ecology (5 turns)
  • Robotics (8 turns)

The above is using 100% research, meaning we'd have all techs required in 41 turns. We should be able to continue with 100% research by trading techs and resources around.

Slider: Since we're obviously out teching our Apollo build realize that we can always lower our science rate and either take it as wealth or increase the culture rate for happiness.

Can't do it right now, but we need to discuss possible trades. We don't want to get any of the AI near Mass Media if possible. With the PA we could get royally screwed if the UN comes up. Hence my reasoning for saving the GE from Fusion as a backup to rush the UN. If we can get us as the Sec. Gen. we can keep the vote from happening.

Edit: I plan on playing tomorrow night.

Plan looks good. One comment, one question:
- We should first research Biology. Then Fusion, and then Robotics.
- To win by diplo, an AI needs support from a significant part of the world. Is this feasible? Perhaps we alone represent enough pop to prevent that?

- To win by diplo, an AI needs support from a significant part of the world. Is this feasible? Perhaps we alone represent enough pop to prevent that?

Remember that there is a PA out there, meaning more than likely one of the members of the PA would qualify as a candidate due to the increased land. Second is their ally will vote for them, so they already have a significant advantage. Granted, this doesn't mean they'll win, but I'd rather not push it.

I'd only consider the UN if it looks like someone else is about to finish it. Otherwise, ignore it if possible.

I'm away from my game computer, but I did some work on this last night. Note, if we steal some tiles from Shanghai, we can make Beijings base production quite a bit higher (up to 52 if memory serves). That made Kiev and Beijing our best cities by my research. Working from there, the other cities that had production in the 40's could all finish a Casing between 14 and 17 turns, while the Engine in Kiev would take 23 (iirc), and Beijing would finish the cockpit in +/-20 as well. The question comes up, though, that we are 1 turn away from robotics, which opens the stasis chamber. Anyway, others are better at the number crunching than I, but that's what I found.

BTW: Is the last save a handoff? I will not be able to play until Friday night, so if you want to get a few more turns in, Methos, fine with me.

Yeah, it was a handoff. We need to discuss where to build each SS part.

Any suggestions anyone?

@battchy:
sorry for low input, but I do not have all the time I expected (the twin sisters are ill, that's a tough period....). I can only give generic advices, which you probably do not need anyway...

Anyway here they are :D :
- use engineers liberaly (we have huge production multipliers on big cities for SS parts)
- getting 2 more GP would be nice, whatever they are, if we want to trigger GA (could be worth it) since we already have 3 waiting (GS, GP and GA iirc). The GE could be used to rush the Elevator.

What we could try is for you to start playing 1 turn for robotics and look at if the elevator is useful (ir how fast can we rush it). In any case I'd suggest stopping in your turnset whenever you think something should be discussed...

That's some low level input :lol: but in any case go Smurkz :goodjob:

save

This is what I did in between upload and my 1 enter to get robotics...

Kiev -> Theatre (took 1 turn to finish and I wanted Kiev free for post Robotics decisions...had 14hammer rollover too)
Irk -> Casing
Smurkz -> Casing
Rome -> Casing
Ant -> Casing
Rav -> Cockpit
Beij -> Engine
Arret -> Docks
Moscow -> Open for use as it's our next best production city. W/ engineer, SE will cost +/-30 turns here, but would open Kiev to get to "work" on something now. It can finish our last Casing in about 18 w/o SE.

So w/ the engineer, Kiev would be able to finish SE in 10-11 turns. That won't help "most" of the casing parts being built (some a little), but it will help the Engine, Stasis Chamber, Cockpit (some), and Thrusters (we need 3). I think it's workth it.

Also, I sold techs for diplo (def. pact w/ Mansa and "make peace" with a couple others), and cash (+/-700gp and sold no tech that cost more than 6,000 beakers).

Please advise as I will not be able to play again for 24 hours. If anyone wants to take it from here before that like that 1 turn was a hand-off, feel free. We are on a serious clock.

Cheers,
B

SE in Kiev sounds like a good idea to me, much better than Mozcow. The sooner we get this the better. And please use the great engineer for this.

We could consider starting a GA as soon as SE is finished. That should help both production and research.

I think battchy is right - anyone who feels like playing a set should pick it up now. We lose too much time because people who are up don't have time to play. (I don't really have time today, unfortunately).

We could be able to cash rush the SE if we need to, by shutting down science for several turns... It could save 1/2 production turns...

I cannot take the save now, but I should have sometime tomorrow CET. I agree on having an anarchistic turnset :lol: I want us to finish this one... We should be at ~60 turns from completion. So let's play.:goodjob:

Got it.

I'll play a few turns as I have some time to spare. Playing right now.

I think the road from here is fairly well mapped. As Methos says, watch city production closely, that's almost all there is to it. Good luck! :thumbsup:

Good luck, battchy!

When we get (close) to the end of the research path, let's replace cottages by workshops in the builder cities (while there is surplus food).

The important thing is to make sure that the final part finishes as soon as possible.
