SGOTM 03 - Team VQ

I disagree with the comment that we don't need more troops.

Sorry I should have clarified. What I meant was that Moscow wasn't building any troops because of Eiffel Tower. I like that wonder for the happy/culture affect but was kinda of following your suggestion. Personally I like it but can do without it. The other two cities are definitely still building military.

I forgot to whip that bank in Holy city.

I never have enough troops for my liking and really was torn about starting Eiffel Tower.

That "vilcabamba" isn't that far by ship and I think once we take Kufah we load up the ships and finish him off. I don't like loose ends....

I caught that later too about Hatty and kind of laughed but Vicky/Izzy are still at it. Also about the autolog. (whine, whine what a fine whine)....It didn't turn out as desired and was mixed up with another game so I couldn't use it. But will rename it and it won't happen next turn.

Looks good. I may divert a small set of troops down to the southern Mao city to remove its cultural pressure. I'll digest all of the above and get my turns played in the next 48 hours. Glad to see the war with HC turned out so well. I'll definitly be able to set the next player up for an good dustup with Monty.

Some other thoughts:

I'll definitly finish of HS post haste. Mao may very well be gone during my turns if the naval forces just accidentally end up near his second city. However, given that Monty is prolly next target (yes/no?) I won't take too many away from their current staging positions for that battle.

If we're certain that we'll be going up against Tok in the UN election, then we should consider *not* buying him into any more wars. He gets free mutual struggle points with the other friends helping us out - we need to distance from him, not keep pace.

Being in Free market will help us gain votes from Mansa (his fav civic), so no sense moving away from it any time soon.

Every player needs to keep a few things in mind:
- Do Not Research Corporation (or take it in trade) - the TGL is helping us too much to lose it.
- Be very aware of which civs like us better then Tok and make sure that all requests for help/halting trading/etc are done in that vein. So if GW asks us to stop trading with Monty... and GW is even with regards to us v Tok (and Monty likes Tok better then us), then do it! Forget the 8gpt we might lose, those 8gpt are prolly trivial in comparison to the votes we need. (remember you can hit F4 when a trade is offered to you and you'll be able to view the advisor without affecting the trade/request).
- Remember that tone doesn't convey well in typing and that the above was an example and not an attack/disparaging remark/etc.

Other thoughts or suggestions from folks?

The big question is whether Toku is or is not going to be the UN Sec rival. If any two civs join hands in matrimony, they would overtake toku. That's the reason why I choose to ignore such speculations and concentrate on bring all those pleased with us to friendly, and hammering on those who are not friendly with any of our potential friends..

Re: Mansa ... that guy has been annoyed with us since day 1, I don't think fav civic would help that much.

--

:agree:

The game is fluid and whether Toku is the contender is a big question still?

I think MM was "cautious" during my turn.

GreyFox, if you want to pick this game up and play it, I won't be able to get to it for at least 12 hours and more likely 24. I've held this up long enough and don't want to impact the flow.

Or alternatively, if Scowler wants to jump in.....

If no one posts a got it when my RL resolves, then I'll still play - but will post an official "PLAYING GOT IT" at that point.

think I've seen another tumbleweed blow by.....................

We seems to be in an undesirable situation of not knowing who got the game and who's playing ...

In interest of moving this game along, I will step in and take the game in 4 hrs time. So if bob or scowler is indeed playing, please voice out within 4 hrs or forever hold your peace.

Some thinking:

- Our galleons are way too south to apply the Sirian Doctrine on HC's current capital (Kufah). The troops in Huamanga should be more than enough. So suggest not bringing the galleons north, but instead load some troops from the cities nearby (eg Cuzco, Macchu Picchu, Vitcos) and let the galleons sail south to pay HC's southern city (Vilcabamba) a visit.

- Once HC is history, we can then move the galleons and forces at the Vilcabamba to Mao's city (Macau) in between Cyrus's land to let him join Alex. With that in mind, all troops produced Sparta and Yaroslavl should be moved south to eliminate the southern chinese city Chengdu.

- Beijing is due for a great person in 8 turns, add some specialist (preferably engineer) to hasten it, since Beijing is angry anyway, no point growing further.

- The bank in Guangzhou is ripe for whipping to remove the 4 red-shirts.

- Vitcos can use some MM'ing, and production should be set for Andahuaylas and Macchu Picchu

As far as I'm concerned you can take the save right away if you wish. I was going to play last night, but by the time I'd re-read the previous posts, examined the save, and made some notes for myself, I'd run out of time.

On the plus side, I should have some spare time to play tonight (or even tomorrow, if Bob prefers to go before me), but if you can take the save first that would be ideal as it will give me time to grab a couple of hours of much-needed sleep ;)

Is that okay with you?

I'm fine with Scowler going after you GreyFox - so I'll "have taken" the skip and we can go from there. I'll pick the game up in the next go round.

The game takes longer then I expected, and a crash to desktop had me worried. This time, however, I play from the autosave ... hope that is not going to cause any issue with the moderators, but I can do nothing.

Anyway, in the best interest of having this game moved forward, I am going to forgo screenies (even though I have taken quite a few) ... maybe I'll retro-fit the screenies tomorrow lunch time.

To cut a long story short, Huayna bites the dust, and I am setting up a some troops to have Mao join him as well. Consider gifting away the city of HC to freddie.

Diplomatic wise, I made too dubious decisions. First, is Gandhi. He came begging for electricity ... after much consideration, I agreed. We are not going to Space, hence it does not matter if Gandhi takes the tech lead. Since Gandhi has Electricty and Physics, I decided to get artillery and rifling from Vicky and Mansa.

The second dubious decision is Izzy came asking us to stop trading with cyrus. I thought about it, and agreed as well. Cyrus is going to hate us for declaring on Mao once more anyway.

I veto-ed Communism, and went for Biology.

With some careful MM, I have Beijing produce a great person before St Pete, and the effort pays off, we got another engineer. So, we have a total of 2 engineers and 1 scientist. Suggest using one engineer to build broadway / rocknroll, and the other to build UN.

We have a great general in Yarsolavl. Suggest building the mil academy. Note: That's what I did during the turn that crashed ... however, after the crash, the great general is borned in a different island, thus it takes some time for me move it to Yarsolavl.

Suggest building the Forbidden Palace in one of HC's former city.

One of HC former city decided to join Egypt :aargh:

We still only have one friend, but I think we should be close to converting Gandhi and Izzy. Try having them declare on Monty as well.

Infrastructure build is getting more and more worthless ... so suggest start switching some city to build wealth/research, while more cities should produce troops.

Thanks for taking over, GF. This is my got-it.

"Sirian doctrine" Ok I admit it, don't know what the hell you are talking about.... Me only understands simple stuff like bashing heads, and burning cities to the ground which to my dismay isn't possible in this game.

mmmmm you're experiencing lots of crashes with your computer GF. Too bad always look forward to all your cutting and pasting and pretty pictures. Well nice to see the game moving again. Biology a good choice but I really was curious to see where we are at with Vicky.

Please put the military academy in a good military production city. That one placed in (geez can't remember the name it's been so long since I looked at the save) Rostov?? sucks bananas production wise and don't think a very good spot for it. Moscow would have been much better.

Have fun Scowler.

EDIT: I don't if anyone has noticed but Trash Team is likely done since there hasn't been activity in a while. We are going to need to beat that date. (I think they definitely PAed with somebody)

It's half-time and Mao is down to his last city. Sadly, Shandong is currently suffering a Chinese revolt

We've popped a second Great Scientist - any ideas what I should do with these two?

Vicky has Rocketry

Troops are slowly getting into position to attack Monty (though we still need MORE of everything...!), but nobody else seems willing to join the fight.

civ4warlords20070205055xx3.jpg

There are cossacks, arties, and a medic gren in our galleons.

More later...

I think AI may be more agreeable to a war when you are already at war. i.e. declare on Monty first, capture a few cities then ask AI to join in. The scientists can be used to get Fission. This will serve as a pretty good money-bringer and war-bribery.

Anyway, a little flash back to 10+ turns before all that :) ... I have processed my screenies:

Seeing that Physics is out, I got rifling from Hatty:

vqsgotm3-AD161-hatty.jpg

Here is the attack and razing of Kurfah, before the causality loop:

vqsgotm3-AD1625pc-kurfah.jpg

and here is the general borned in Moscow, before the causality-loop also:

vqsgotm3-AD1625pc-general.jpg

and then it is KAH-BOOM ... Welcome to BSOD.

So I get to attack Kurfah a second time:

vqsgotm3-AD1625-kurfah.jpg

Battle results is largely the same, lost 1 grenies and 2 cannons in both cases I think, but the general is borned in different continent.

As I said, I MM'ed Beijing to produce a GP before St Pete:

vqsgotm3-AD1631-engineer.jpg

He got ferried over to Mainland Russia together with the General.

This is our big gift to Gandhi:

vqsgotm3-AD1631-gandhi-beg.jpg

Seeing that electricity is out, I got artillery from Vicky.

vqsgotm3-AD1631-vicky-trade.jpg

And this is the elimination of HC:

vqsgotm3-AD1631-HC-eliminated.jpg

The Big Bang must have affected my thinking (or is it because it was already past midnight?), but I totally forgot to capture the worker first before eliminating Incan :hammer2:

But as a compensation, we Popped Another One:

vqsgotm3-AD1637-iron-pop.jpg

Here is the relation screen. Those in the blue box are our target voters. Those in red circle are their respective most hated enemy. Never trade with them.

vqsgotm3-AD1640-relations.jpg

Looking at this, apart from Monty and Mao, we could consider taking on KK, Louis, Freddie and Cyrus.
