    Ok, one more thing :).
    I don't think we gain a lot by going after Genghis now. Instead, I want to to get him to friendly :eek:, so he trades again. On top of the other things above, we can bribe Genghis against Gandhi for CS. I don't think he really has a chance to do much to Gandhi, so that's no big problem.
    Revolting to confucius should do the rest.
    It would be nice if we could get a missionary (or several missionaries, if he picks up a religion before) to Hannibal. Then we could have the good researchers on our side, while we take out the others on the other continent. Obviously this means again astronomy as high priority.

    I will be out the next two days, and my RL has been incredibly busy and doesn't show signs of slowing down until perhaps early May (when we're actually in our new house). I know a number of us are also busy, but our team thread has been really silent and it doesn't help to have the Captain be as missing in action as I have been. I would be very happy to pass that position to another team member for the benefit of the team if a more active player in that role would help discussion (and keep the game flowing).

    I am afraid my RL situation is not much better. I am in the process of launching a start up company and will continue to be intermittently absent for the duration of Q2. that is also the reason for my lack of contributions to the game progress discussions. I am very sorry about this.

    Will be "locked up" with the other founders from thursday until sunday. So if I am up please swap me to play early next week instead if possible. I have not even had time to look at the latest save. Will try to do so later today and make some hopefully informed comments. ;)

    I'm back now. I believe malekithe and myself are buying houses and moving, a space oddity just won a major contract at her company, and Wotan has announced his RL situation. MailMan has a young child (1 1/2 IIRC). Discussion is hard to come by, and I'll admit I've only opened the save for just before my turnsets. I appreciate that klarius has contributed as frequently as he has or this thread would be really bare!

    India attacked twice at Uppsala, so I'd keep the at least one caravel (probably both, since he sent a Galley/Trireme stack both times) nearby to intercept before he lands. Continue to develp our army and our 4 cities. I believe we plan to found a 5th to grab the Iron, and I think the best space is 1 move SW of the Iron, to control most of the river there. I've sent another Caravel up our eastern coast to protect Sarmatian; India has sent a Trireme down this coast.

    klarius suggests that we research Astronomy next; not bad, and we could use the trade with the other continent. But it would turn off our Colossus, which we only recently finished. I've set research to University, but perhaps we should move ahead further into the research table, and leave some of these earlier Techs to the AI. klarius has also posted some other suggestions that sound good.

    We're too weak to take on Genghis yet, but that'll change.

    I'm pretty sure the better trade routes and resource trades are worth more than the colossus, so that's no reason to delay astronomy. Observatories are cheaper than universities and have the chance to stay, when Gandhi at some time will get our core cities. They also allow a third scientist, though that'll be probably not used in many cities.

    "Emergency Holographic Team-Captain here ... what is your SGOTM emergency? 18 days since a turnset has been played. hmmm. I see. I suggest 12 hours to receive a status from the current player, then open it up for any player to post a 'got-it' "

    ainwood, what is your status? Are you playing a turnset? To move along, I suggest playing for about 15 turns, if you can afford the time.

    Played an extended set - 20 turns.

    Start:

    We're in anarchy, so can't really evaluate what's what.

    Bribed Mehmed to take on Isabella - construction, metal casting & CoL (construction & Metal casting to help do some damage).
    Get Genghis at war for world map & civil service. Get 30 gold for our troubles too.
    Switch research to astronomy

    Turn 1: 425 AD.
    We're out of anarchy. I've had to drop the slider to to 90% - actually, we'll need to alternate around 80-90%.
    Uppsala has grown and hired a scientist. I put it back to growth.
    Groundnuthill - continue with settler.

    Turn 2: 440 AD.
    Start farm to spread irrigation from uppsala to nidaros.
    Have caravel positioned so that it can see Delhi, but is three sea-moves (so will get to attack, rather than be attacked, although with the defensive bonus, that's not necessarily a good thing!)
    Research back to 80%

    Turn 3: 455 AD:
    Mehmed completes the great library in Istanbul.
    I have our explorer there, watching to see if he is actively attacking Issie. Looks like he is massing troops.

    Turn 4: 470 AD
    Two triremes appear near karachi.
    Settler completes - start confusion missionary.
    I attack & sink a trireme (2.0/3 str left), and then run-away.

    Turn 5: 485 AD
    Islam FIADL

    Turn 6: 500 AD
    Complete missionary, start worker (we need many more)
    Oops - scratch that - we grow in two turn. Set to beserker instead.

    Turn 7: 515 AD
    Swap world maps with hannibal (plus we get 50 gold)
    Trireme spotted between our continents, but galley from delhi has gone!
    Our caravel attacks trireme - and loses! Second one cleans-up.
    For some reason, our caravel (retreated to samratian) is still 2.0/3! Gandhi's trireme has now appeared to the north.
    I suspect that gandhi is taking the long road around the coast with his galley - north. We'll get another caravel out of groundnut hill.

    Turn 8: 530 AD;
    Found Haithabu - 1 SW of iron. Start granary.
    Trireme comes out of Delhi - hannibal has a trireme here as well. I don't attack - will improve our odds.
    Two triremes appear N of samartian. No great urgency to attack at the moment.
    Must remember to pop forge in uppsala in a couple of turns....
    Swap paper & optics with Hannibal for Feudalism.
    Sell paper to genghis for 210 gold. Ramp-up research to 90%.

    Turn 9: 545 AD.
    Galley appears near bombay. Mobilise caravel to deal to it - it can get there in 2.
    Attack & sink first trireme near samartian (2.5/3).
    Pop forge in Uppsala. Workers have finished irrigation spread, they will now mine hill.
    Just noticed that our spices & sugar don't have plantations.

    Turn 10: 560 AD
    Uppsala - forge => barracks.
    GnH - Beserker => Worker (may change, depending on how our caravel handles the trireme!)
    Jungle removed N of uppsala - 1 turn! Some forward-thinking person must have pre-chopped! :D
    Caravel sinks galley, and we get a great general.

    Turn 11: 575 AD
    Caravel sinks trireme up north - its now combat 2, so its >95%
    Other caravel promoted to combat 1.

    Turn 12: 590 AD
    Complete mining of hill north of GnH and also N of uppsala.

    Turn 13: 605AD
    GnH - worker => Market (using overflow).
    Our missionary isn't going to make it to Hannibal - with the loss of the caravel, we can't afford to send the other one. :( Send missionary to our new city.

    Turn 14: 620 AD
    Nidaros - Beserker => Longbow.
    Uppsala - Barracks => Longbow.
    Galley plus trireme escort appears fromDelhi.
    I attack (& destroy) the trireme, but it leaves us 1.6/3! I move a beserker to the jungle, so that he can't land and have an attack with defence.

    Turn 15: 635 AD
    gandhi lands a sword & a cat on our mined gems.
    A second (combat 1) galley appears to guard the second. With 20% survival odds, I retreat our galley.
    Two beserkers attack & win.
    Caravel up north beats another trireme - no damage! its now 10/10 XP.
    have roaded to Haithabu. Startto mine iron.
    Poprush market in GnH.

    Turn 16: 650 AD
    GnH Market => Caravel.
    Complete plantation on sugar.
    Trireme comes from Delhi - chasing our caravel.

    Turn 17: 665 AD
    Mehmed wants us to help in his war. i decline, but he will now trde techs - I swap paper for theology & some gold.
    Mehmed then immediately makes peace with Issie!
    Our caravel is forced to retreat.

    Turn 18:680 AD
    Complete plantation on spices.
    Iron now hooked-up.

    Turn 19: 695 AD
    Samartian aquaduct => Longbow
    GnH Caravel => Longbow
    Caravel sent south (automove) to go round to indian coast.
    Cat & mouse with caravel vs trireme continues - but I'll cut across the ocean to get back!

    Turn 20: 710 AD.
    Trireme retreats.

    We're two turns from astronomy - but we're falling behind the world in score - badly.
    Our power is dangerously low. Hannibal's GNP is skyrocketting!

    Thanks for the heads-up Steve, I will try to play tomorrow. If that attempt fails, I have to ask for another skip. I have a conference in Cannes starting tuesday. :cool:

    Any specific issues I'll have to tackle? I'm afraid I've gotten rusty with with Civ falling completely off the radar for me lately. :scan:

    There is a great general sitting around in Nidaros. I would settle him in GNH, where he will help also navy builds.

    I would get literature from Hannibal for Theology and build the heroic epic in GNH.

    I would like to have a monastery in Nidaros. That's pretty cheap for the 10% science.

    I think we can trade with Washington to get his few gold. Hannibal is annoyed with Washington and Gandhi, but the hidden modifiers should make Gandhi his worst enemy.
    We can also trade with Isa to get her gold and maintain good relations. In 7 turns when her peace treaty is over, I would look if she goes to war with Mehmed again.

    I want Istanbul as our first foothold on the other continent ;). The current garrison could be easily taken by a few catapults and a handfull of zerks.

    Good advice! What would be the best research path ahead? And our ultimate goal is to get Gandhi to launch. I suppose we should keep civs who are likely to trade with him, and get the proper Techs into their hands, while denying them the resources to build SS parts.

    Education or printing press are valid choices. Everything else we should be able to trade over time.

    BTW, another small point. Throw out all these engineers. Our cities should grow. Soon we will be able to trade for more resources, so we definitely can afford more population.

    :ack: I was trying to maximise population. It kept reassigning specialists in cities.
