Preturn

We have education and fairly behind technology wise so we need some good trades.

Engineering/optics for education so now we can move those units faster to the battlefield and build pikes/caravels.

Next trade:

We make this trade with Mehmed although it will give a negative for GW but who cares I hate that guy. In every game he makes a lot of demands and never trades diddly.

There were other trades to make but I decided gunpowder was more important namely giving us the ability to get chemistry started. I feel that Hannibal is teching away and we need Grenadiers to deal with him.

We make this deal with GW but in hindsight I wish I hadn’t. The music for cathedrals to help Birka and philosophy to get us to liberalism should we feel the liberalism race hasn’t been won yet.

As to Birka’s dilemma I do whip the theatre and put the overflow into monastery.

And now we have guilds but some of AI is starting “you are becoming too advanced”. Geez meanwhile Hannibal is in the industrial age already having Steel as I notice a drydock at one of his cities.

Now after some thought it was a toss up between chemistry or astronomy. Astronomy is out as I noticed GW has it (getting nicely fed from Hannibal) and Hannibal too. So I opt for Grenadiers as much better to have them in case Hannibal gets frisky which I doubt as by looking at his landmass he really hasn’t got much. Brennus I think is much stronger military/production wise and as the game progresses he becomes pleased with us. Though I’d rather face Hannibal with Grenadiers if he’s sporting rifles/grenadiers.

We continue to bombard Karakorum and should be ready to take it next turn. (btw Greyfox thanks for the great set up and that’s what I call an army not a bunch of swords facing longbows.)

The battle of Karakorum goes quite well and only need one cat to soften up the defenders and he retreats so no losses of any kind taking Karakorum.

Those CR3 berserkers are really something I find. Even better in a galleon with some frigates.

We are basically living off the spoils of war and our finances are really bad. Can only run science at like 20% in the green.

We also whipped the hindu monastery at Birka and notice that the gems dropped to 49% but as the game progresses increased to 50% again. I did hire an artist there as it will be more detrimental to loose gems then loose a tile being worked. Plus he provides some science and 4 culture giving a total of 12 culture in Birka now.

Also Nidaros built a caravel/workboat so the clams are hooked up again and protected.

I notice now that Sanchu has 2 pop and feel that it’s position isn’t that bad so we loose a berserker to weaken crossbow and then take the city. Of course I renamed it Nara to fit the theme.

Our troops embark on Old Sarai and take it with no losses again. (Having good luck with RNG so far)

Our finances are getting tight so I opt to sell some maps to keep us afloat for a bit.
In the meantime some courthouses are whipped (including Karakorum which whipped theatre/then courthouse since there were so many red faces there.)

Nidaros builds a musket that is on the way to garrison Karakorum and to free up some berserkers to do what they do best.

It starts on a university as I believe our battle with GK is pretty much over only three cities left and I should be able to take one more.

We also make this deal with Brennus and open borders with him. He is now pleased with us so we could if we wished spawn some missionaries on him.

Bjorgvin finishes settler who has not been used since we are bleeding coin bad. Also Gandhi has settled near the intended spot so I leave it for now and the next player can decide what to do with this unnecessary settler. (don’t we have enough cities already??)
Start a Hindu monastery there so that we can send some missionaries to those towns that need culture like Nara.

I also disband that Trireme since he can’t help us see anything and saves us 2 gpt per turn. We did get a caravel out towards the dark space but he’s going the long way to avoid Gandhi’s navy. (via Brennus )

The only battle that kind of hurt. We loose a CR3 berserker at 95.9% odds which is unfortunate but to be expected. We take Beshbalik although the screenie didn’t take.

That leaves two cities but one will need ships so maybe those two caravels at Nidaros can take out Trireme hindering our galley.

Last turn

Troops are one turn from Nsing Hsia and should be able to take it out in two turns. As to the other city we need to get a galley there and drop some troops there and I don’t imagine he has much. Please don’t settle for peace finish him off so no yearning for motherland crap.

Birka is building a Hindu temple and should be whipped. There is still an artist working there. (also an in artist in Karakorum to pressure Hannibal’s new city founded on the city that was razed)

Nidaros is building a university as well as Haithabu as we need the science boost. There is 8 turns left on Chemistry and after building/whipping some courthouses we can run science at 30% no loss.

Bjorgvin is building missionaries for the cities that need culture. I don’t know what to do with that settler. Just keep him handy I’d say to stop AI if we take more land.

Great to see the tech trades working out and you taking them the second step of trading what we got for even more techs. Yes we're bringing everyone to parity (except GW), but I'm ok with that. We're one of the two largest civs, so after finishing off Khaaaaan we need to get our bulk working for us in the GNP department (thank you for not founding *another* city). I'll happily curse the single Nara we have in this game.

One question (since I'm not looking at the save). Can we pointy stick GK with the sole intention of trading 10 turns for whatever techs/gold he has?

Yep he'll give us gold/world map/1 gpt/banking. (not a lot of gold iirc) but we could use the banking.

I did notice too later in the game that Hannibal has liberalism and he has chemistry/steel too yuk.

As to settling I just didn't want to see that maintenance on the whole creep up as before courthouse Karakorum was -11.60 gpt main. That would have been affected even more so with another city. Nara is actually not bad with all that wine and two coastal tiles won't be much use.
 
I was thinking the exact same thing about Representation. Only real unhappy we are experiencing is in Birka and that's from whipping but I did a trade with Mehmed for silk to alleviate that. Gave him sheep or something but not happy.

GK is almost finished two more cities maybe after we finish him go to rep but we don't have a lot of specialist too. Right now two artists and one scientist only, so changing is only 9 beakers but we could use everything right now and maybe once Karakorum starts growing more put more specialist in there.

Bobrath was thinking extorting tech from GK but he only has banking to offer which we can do in 4 turns. Do we want to go thru the increased negative with his friends a second time around? A bank would help a lot in Haithabu.

EDIT: I notice that our trade routes blow chunks. Is it that Genghis war is blocking trade? Then holding off taking that island may not be wise so that we could open up those trade routes.
 
Trade routes are stanky (imo) mostly because lots and lots of folks are in mercantillism right now.

Nidaros is building a university as well as Haithabu as we need the science boost. There is 8 turns left on Chemistry and after building/whipping some courthouses we can run science at 30&#37; no loss.
While running at 30% science, build a University?? Maybe a market+Grocer would be a better choice?

Bjorgvin is building missionaries for the cities that need culture. I don&#8217;t know what to do with that settler. Just keep him handy I&#8217;d say to stop AI if we take more land.
Add the city north of Nadiros?? It will cost us 6 gpt like Tonsberg.... But once size 4 should atleast pay for itself at 50% and not having any city improvements (lots to chop there, still, for some rapid improvements like a granary) and the +1GPT for the shrine offcourse :)

Trade routes I think is blocked by GKs city, we dont have Astronomy => We can only follow coastal routes. Also we dont have OBs with Hannibal, yet again blocking us from the rest of the mainland :(

Couple of comments on the save :
- Universities... Nice and all, but a market or Grocer is going to help much more and are cheaper to build => Earlier benifits... while we remain below 50% science.
- Isa is willing to give us Dye (+1:)) for copper (out of date resource anyway).
Then we can sell our sheep (we have 2) for 4gpt to her.
- A lot of cities are working sub-obtimal tiles, probably :smoke: on the part of the governers. I suggest some MM.
Haithabu is working the plains hill (probably for hammers) but I suggest swapping to a milled hill to gain 2 food and grow, it has 4 :) left over.
Also it doesnt have a forge, thats another 2 :) we are missing out on. It does have a market, but no grocer. Both Grocer and Forge IMHO are more important than a University... Even a courthouse, while beeing cheaper, will net the same 3gpt/bpt the University will do. The Forge will also aid in giving more hammers from the chops that are beeing done there.
- On Mercentalism, Only Mehmed is merc. Hannibal and GW are in Free market. Brennus and Isa are in Decentralism (or some you know what I mean)
- GK will give 130 gold along with Banking. I think we can take the 10 turns for (free) banking. Also to whipe out GK we will need to get some ships (galleys??) to the southeast, which is going to take atleast those 10 turns anyway.
Banking is 11 turns at 30%, it will not only give us banks (+50% GPT) but also give us Merc. Merc right now is much more valuable than trade routes (non excisting untill either Astronomy or OBs with Hannibal + GK).
Also our traderoutes (to AI with astronomy like GW) are helping them, while if we are in Merc no longer so. Merc + Representation even if we only run non-scientists will yield 14 cities * 3 beakers = 42 baeakers. Given we will run some scientists, lets asume 3 more. That is 51 beakers a turn while at 30% we are generating a mear 102 beakers. That is a 50% boost, while not even counting the libraries causing yet more beakers. And any GP points should they trigger an (additional) GP someplace.
Edit: Whoops I forget the Artist in Birka, but more so the 3 scientists in Nadiros.
The thing I dont know is, how much do we rely on the MP for happyness vs the +2 :) for the biggest cities of Representation?
