Agnostic de facto, catholic by origins, i don't love so much the consumist Xmas, though it can be a moment for "good" thoughts.
Thanks all for the b.day wishes, a quiet day, anyway.
Not much to add about the game, but that i don't understand what Culdeus meant in his post and that i don't know who between Sweeta and Civ is up.
Let's try not to do as Buridan's Donkey, which, undecided if eat the food on his right side or in his left side, died by starvation.
Shortly: go ahead!
Having played a few always war games where everything was going along fine until late in the game, I can understand what Culdeus meant. One of the unmet Civs shows up in force, slightly more advanced and proceeds to grind the human into the dust.
That's why it is important to meet and slow down all the other Civs eliminating as opportunity arises but not at the cost of ignoring the other Civs.
As soon as we can we could start checking the HOF to see whether we can win just by hitting the Domination limit:
From GOTM25 1st spoiler
Erkon;6270046]Because HOF will state exactly how many tiles there's left. If you calculate it manually, you may be one tile off due to rounding errors. The HOF warning will also state that you need to exceed that number of tiles.
It's just that I don't trust my own calculations...
It only works when you have passed ~18% area of course...
I seriously doubt that Gyathaar will allow us to win domination on the land mass that we are on, and the cost and delay to go for a domination victory is prohibitive (especially on multiple continents), as borne out the last time we tried it.
We need to keep a conquest mentality with regard to this game, IMO.
I'm considering myself as up next for the time being, although I've been busy with family and with being kinda sick over the holidays. I suspect that I should be able to play tomorrow (Friday). So long as there are no objections, that will be my goal.
Merum, if you ask me to bet if our landmass is enough for domination, i refuse.
I was meaning that, *if* Astro is required, domination will be the only way.
Longer:
- If we discover everyone is reachable by galley, we can keep the AI capitals, in case settle some *good* spot, then with enough galleys, cats WE and axes we can win.
- If we find we need caravels to reach someone, then Astro is needed for conquest, *maybe not* for domination, and we must settle our continent, then count the tiles (as GB suggested) and find the best way to hit the limit.
The first thing we need to do is take Athens, rush a courthouse, then a trireme. Surely easier to say than to do.
Okay, I'm looking to play very soon. My specific plan for the turnset will include:
- 0% research until London's library is completed.
- London will built axe, axe, axe after the library.
- I'm a big fan of agri before construction. Getting York up and running faster will be more than worth a delay of, what, 4 turns?
-I will make a judgment call on whether or not to attack any of the plains cities (particularly Utica and Corinth). I think I'll be willing to risk any fight where I'm 75%+, but no more.
I'd like to take one of those cities, but i wish prioritize the pillaging of Carthage (the city).
There's a pair (axe+archer) NW of Utica, i'd like to use them to try to find Carthage and pillage the copper, along with any other improvement we can see.
This means no more axes or spears from any AI, thus less trouble.
- there's a worker on a hill close to London, road it, then send him to York
- as soon as horses will be on line, build a chariot and send it North in scouting duties.
quoted myself, i think this is my answer to your question, plus some more things i still think are OK.
Don't forget the "rule" attackers=defenders*2.
and, if i'm not wrong you got only a true attacker there.
Free an archer, and bring the other with the axe to find and pillage C.
If you feel safer, keep the stack as is (remember your relation with the RNG)
The biggest development so far has been that Alexander has York in a stand-off with two archers nestled in the forest to the south. The city has two archers and an axeman in it, so it isn't threatened, but it's hurting our ability to perform worker improvements in the area. Because of those archers and barbs I've kept the workers parked in York for a couple of turns. They should be moved out ASAP now, though. Exactly how to handle this should be up for the team to decide.
Spoiler:
London needs to be re-MM'd before we go to the next turn. It's off the copper somehow. I was checking it about every other turn so it can't have been there for long. Perhaps a mistake on my part.
Built a chariot to explore in the north. A couple of barb cities up there, otherwise not a whole lot up there.
Spoiler:
BTW, to the West, there's no land bridge, just to clear that up. When London's borders expanded it made it clear.
Carthage has been found and been pillaged pretty well. I kept the axe x2, archer stack together (as per my relationship with the RNG). Carthage had copper, and has/had iron somewhere, as he has swords x2 at home.
Spoiler:
Hanni also founded a city to the E of York. Couldn't stop it. Just a sword and a spear there for now, so if we can get a couple of axes there, it will fall easily.

We'll prolly loose an axe, but we need to wipe those archers.
Iron... we can pillage everything, but not if there's a city on it (and we can't see it).

Yeah, I was wondering if there wouldn't be a way to lure them out of that forest, and was really hoping that they'd roll onto the elephants to try and pillage, where I could destroy them easily, but instead, they fortified
At least we have horses and ivory hooked up now, and Construction should arrive in the next TS.
I agree with Merum about the worker. It is worth the chance to move the worker two spaces away from the Archers and see if they move to the attack.
It seems like Alexander has learned a thing or two from us!
It is extremely annoying to have City Management turned off and then to find the next turn that the program has reassigned your workers.
We need to get more Axes up and moving. Parking the 2 Archers near us means that one of Alex's cities has been left lightly defended. When attacking a city without the benefit of Catapults I prefer to have 4 Axes and 2 Archers for backup. If we don't have enough military to attack cities we need to have another stack pillaging. We need to keep all three Civs off balance.
It could obviously be a potential culture bridge, we can check that out at some point. We have a warrior in London who's not doing much of anything.
I don't know if you noticed, either, but there is a bordering landmass to our North, accessible via galley. I don't THINK this is northern tundra, I think it's the tip of another continent. The chariot can make that clear in one turn, at least. You can see it in the screenshot in my report post.
