SGOTM 07 - The Real Ms. Beyond

Definitively upgrade soem trops with the cash.
We want Education badly anyway, because of university and Oxford. If we manage to finaly pop a GS at some point, we should try not to waste too much research with the bulbing, but that could just mean finishing Education manually and saving GS for Liberalism (if it is the next tech on GS priority, no idea, I am useless at knowing that).

We also should try to grow to a decent size, now that we can have relatively large health and happy limits.

There are about 1000 and 1 techs before Mil Trad. I'm not sure holding him is the right idea but it isn't something that we need to do right now.

  • we got our Great Scientist - unfortunately, I mis-calculated the beakers we were adding to our tech (forgot the bonus from other civs knowing the tech) and I wasted 151 beakers - about 1.5 turn of research.
  • we met catherine (top civ) and Louis (middle)
  • The GS will finish off Education, saving us 13 turns of tech. If we self-research, then his next tech is Printing Press (I think) which is basically worthless for us.
  • Beakers from GPs ... GS = 1500+3*pop, other = 1000_2*pop
  • I chopped the forest 1 East of the capital into a caravel and sent him West. I've been building a harbour for the health bonus and additional commerce.
  • other worker action - roaded out to the iron, but didn't mine it, roaded to the marble, started the quarry (due in 1 or 2)
  • tile MM: worked tiles that are 4+ food only, all other people were Scientists except for the final round, dailed down the scientists (GPP still in 1 turn) but worked 2 coast tiles (2F, 3C).
  • growth and harbour in 1 turn
  • we are currently at max health but harbour will add +1 health
  • need to connect deer, net fish and clams for additional health but that can wait a few turns
  • next tech suggestion after education, drama for globe (or trade for it - it is available)
  • we have lots of things to build: university, oxford, playhouse, globe, 2x fishing boats - suggest we set up city for max hammers and chop trees outside fat cross

Well, I'm back but utterly snowed under, so I won't be able to look at this until the weekend.

The usual RNG excepted, we seem to be bearing up well enough!

I would say keep most trees, but since we have lots of health (or will have easily), we could always cut a few ones (probably the ones next to the city).

We need to build a few more units as well.

Right, I'll have to play tonight because I am busy on Saturday. Is the team consensus that we want to bulb education with the scientist? And are we sure we want to build the globe theatre yet? HR seems to solve our happiness issues until we get constitution and globe gives us more GA points. We have more important things to build with military and the universities.

I say YES to the bulb and holding off on GT to get some more units and science buildings out there.

Good work ruff_hi! Had a look at the save..

If we want to bulb also the GA we need to get those medieval culture techs. Elizabeth will trade drama and 40gp for paper. Washington will trade theology for paper and 30gp. JC will trade engineering+70gp for philo+paper. Also we could trade education after bulbing and we could get guilds+music with that from cyrus I think. Asoka already has education, so we've lost the liberalism race I think. We should head for nationalism and military tradition. Also we could get a few gps from them backwards civs and upgrade the rest of our units.

Also before building uni we should build some defence! At least one or maybe two units.. Also move one citizen to work the stone hill immediately, we need those hammers. Also stone should be ready before finishing uni so we can get oxford as fast as possible. No globe theatre yet. We don't have any use for it before rep and we don't want GA pollution.

Btw did you guys look at the map? Saladin seems HUGE. We will reach him soon with the caravel..

I agree with the education bulb. And chmoosi' trades to open up using the GA bulb. We can delay the Globe, more important buildings are uni and oxford. It'll take 6 turns clear to quarry the stone - 3 if you use both workers.

Have we targeted a PA partner yet? It seems that Asoka would be a good selection.

Yes - logical target after clearing Drama, Music and Theology. It should bring in 1000 + 3 * population = 1030 (at size 10) beakers or roughly 10 turns of research. On the flip side, settling gives us +3 gold and culture. Given that this is a speed first competition, I vote bulb.

nononono - who needs that stuff? Uni + Oxford are much more important. We can always whip in a few lbows if we really need to.

Well the point of units would be to prevent an AI getting any funny ideas about the invasibility of our city..

Do we really want to abandon the Liberalism race ?
If the next GS could help 'bulb' it (need to check that, I don't know), could we have a chance with max research and max GP generation ?
(Or is building uni+Oxford too urgent to be delayed by less production ?)

liberalism cannot be bulbed IIRC. And if asoka gets it, which seems very likely, it isn't very bad for us as he is the most potential of our PA partners. So we should just focus on techs that get us to PA as fast as possible..

liberalism can be bulbed but it is about the 3rd LAST!! tech (ie way to many techs to clear) and there are lots above that. I would concentrate on uni - oxford and heading towards the defensive pact techs.
