Turn 46 - Workers begin road to Washington. Beijing MMed for growth in 5 turns. Open borders with Asoka.

Turn 47 - Roads finished. Trade crab for gold with Asoka.

Turn 48 - Two trade routes show up with Asoka. Move workers to marble and fur. No one appears to be planning for war.

Turn 49 - Axe -> axe. Warriors move south to prepare for exploration.

Turn 50 - Roads completed. Fur hooked.

Turn 51 - Writing -> Alphabet. Pop5, work coast. Open borders with Washington. We now have 3 trade routes. -1 diplo with Washington for close borders. New York is getting sqeezed. Warriors begin exploration.

Turn 52 - Axe -> library. Confucianism FIADL. We meet Julius Caesar's scout in American land. Julius is Hindu. No one appears to be planning for war.

Turn 53 - Refuse open borders with Rome, for now. Meet Capac. Marble quarry completed. Our borders push onto the silver.

Turn 54 - Hinduism spreads to us. I do not convert yet. Open borders with Capac. Workers move to silver with an axe.

Turn 55 - Meet Alex, a Buddhist. Meet Frederick, a Hindu.

Turn 56 - Parthenon build IADL. No one appears to be planning for war.

Turn 57 - Beijing Pop6, work stone (working coast would not speed up Alpha, but stone would speed up library). Pyramids built IADL. Open borders with Fred. Silver mine completed.

Turn 58 - Meet Issy, the founder of Buddhism.

Turn 59 - Begin cottage east of Beijing.

Turn 60 - Library -> axe. Cottage finished and worked. Try to MM for faster Alpha date but no use.

Turn 61 - Meet Kublai. Begin cottage north of Beijing.

Turn 62 - Alphabet finished. Paused for discussion.

Nice work SCT!! :goodjob:

An interesting situation...
Caesar is pretty far ahead of the others in power. Followed by Mongols, India, England and America, with Fred right in there as well.

Looking at the Foreign Advisor matrix, thing are certainly starting to break along religious lines. Given that the top four civs are Hindu and that two protect our southern border, I think we should adopt Hinduism soon. Looks like Toku is everyone's worst enemy. :)

Would love to have Bombay, three religions founded there!

On trading, this is where I am not certain what to do. Alphabet leads directly to Literature and we need to get the Great Library. How long should we hold Alphabet? I also like to try and pick up Math and Iron Working for Alphabet, so I'm not sure it si best to start trading it right away?

Trading Pottery to Isabella for Mysticism would be good. Then we may be able to pick up Animal Husbandry from Washington for Writing. Fred doesn't look too eager to trade Iron Working, unfortunately. Perhaps we should wait a turn and see if we can pick up Polytheism from him for Writing and Sailing? Then we could go directly to Literature and the Great Library.

Julius has started building Praets. I'd like to be on the same side as Julius in any early war.

Yes, we can adopt Hindusim after we do our tech trading over the next couple of turns. I wanted to keep our tech trading options open.

After we adopt Hinduism, we have a happy cap of 8, and I believe we could trade our stone for incense with Asoka, for a happy cap of 9. :goodjob:

This is good news. It looks like our continent is going to break along a single religious line. That should make it easier for us to choose our friends and enemies. I suspect Confucianism was founded on the other continent, so we should probably see a unified group over there later.

We don't need to worry much about losing the GLib. No one else has Alpha right now. As long as we don't trade Alpha to the tech leader Asoka, we should be the first to Literature. We will have a 200% bonus for building the GLib, and we have forests to chop. I can't imagine the AI building it faster than we.

The one question I have about trading techs with Issy is whether we can get a "you traded with our worst enemy" penalty for tech trading. Or does that penalty only happen for ongoing trades? We don't want to risk a -4 diplo penalty with any of the Hindus.

About tech trading and diplomacy:

I believe Issy may be the worst enemy of Toku. If we trade with Issy, we may have a hard time getting any help from Toku. Issy will give Mysticism or Archery for Pottery.

Fred may be the worst enemy of Issy and/or Alex. Fred will give Mysticism or Archery for Sailing.

Washington may also be the worst enemy of Issy and/or Alex. Washington will give Animal Husbandry, Mysticism, or Archery for Writing.

I'm leaning toward getting Myst and AH from Fred and Washington this turn and avoiding trading with Issy. Archery is not important now.

Great progress :goodjob:.

I traded Alphabet away for Math in most of my test games so I'm not worried about trading it early. In several games I had trouble getting Polytheism in a trade. The only tech we urgently need is Mysticism because it's on the beeline to Literature so maybe we should start by trading for that and then see what is possible next turn.

We could trade Mysticism with Frederick but he may be the worst enemy of some non-Hindu civs. Otherwise we can trade it with Washington instead of AH.

If we trade for Mysticism this turn, we can set research to Polytheism. There was a large beaker carry-over from Alphabet, because we were only a few beakers short of getting it on turn 61. So we can probably self-research Polytheism in 2 turns if need be.

I noticed that Fred will not give any tech for Writing, meaning he's probably close to self-researching it. I think we should gift it to him, to pick up diplo points and to be able to trade Alpha with him next turn. Same with Toku. Gift him Writing and hopefully he will be willing to tech trade next turn. No one is willing to trade Math yet even though 2 AI have it, so we probably want to avoid trading Alpha to those 2 AI.

Just loaded up the save and asked what they thought of their AI brothers and sisters. I think the only civ we risk a problem with in trading with Isabella is Toku, who is Annoyed with her. All the other civs are mostly Cautious towards her except Alex and Asoka, who are both Pleased towards her.

The Hindu block is pretty solid. The only weird one is Caesar. He is Pleased with Asoka, Capac and Toku, Cautious towards Washington, Frederick, Elizabeth and Isabella.

EDIT - Toku is pretty weird too, but that is normal. He is Annoyed with everyone except Caesar, Alex and Capac, with whom he is Pleased.

Caesar is not ready to make any wars with us by his side. We need to work to up his diplo rating with us. :D

I would hold onto Alphabet unique at least until we can get Math for it.

I think I like the idea of trading for Mysticism with Frederick and see what we can stir up for Polytheism next turn so we can get on to Lit. :deal:

It's almost worrisome how smoothly matters are proceeding.

Haven't had time to look at the save, but a couple of quick questions:

Are we sure that there is another continent? If there is one with a powerful civ and land available, might it be a threat to build the GLIB?

Might there be enough land on our continent for Domination?

I don't think we need to be too cautious about trading away Alpha. The AI is not quick to trade Alpha away. If we can get some useful techs from the AI that don't have Math, there should still be a good chance of trading for Math with someone shortly.

Archery and Iron Working are not too useful for building units right now but iron could show up in our BFC, and both will give a big boost to our power rating. Monotheism is another tech that would be nice to trade for.

We can continue to explore, but I think we should avoid opening borders with Alex or Issy. Trading with them could piss off our Hindu friends. I suggest we open borders with Lizzy and maybe Toku.

If there is another threat to build the GLib, can we do anything about it? I think we're beelining for it anyway.

Might there be enough land on our continent for Domination?

We might not know for sure until we can trade maps.

All this sounds good to me and also leif's suggestion of trading Writing for AH with Washington.

I like trying to hold onto alpha for maths and trading for myst this turn. I also had trouble getting poly in trades in some of my test games. If we have open borders with Hyunac, we might send a hindu missionary there to convert him (once we get a monastary). I like him as a potential partner.

According to the testing, things can get exciting any time now. That is why it will be nice to become a "brother and sister of faith" soon so we can ensure we have protection along our borders. It is also important to get a tech lead in case we need to buy in an ally.

Are we sure that there is another continent? If there is one with a powerful civ and land available, might it be a threat to build the GLIB?
Yes, there is surely another. I never ran into this in testing. Later in the game, there was one instance where a civ became quite powerful on the other continent because they conquered two other civs and had the advantage of a larger empire. In most games, they pretty much hold there own over there.

Might there be enough land on our continent for Domination?
I think we have to wait and see what the other continent looks like. It will happen soon enough... :D

Plan for the rest of my turnset:

Workers finish second cottage, road stone, improve deer, start prechopping for GLib.

Trade stone for Asoka's incense.

Trade for Mysticism and AH with Fred and Wash. Hold onto Alpha unless Math is available. Gift writing to Fred and Toku. Self research Polytheism if not available for trade. Start Lit.

Finish building third axe and then granary. Emphasize growth and commerce in Beijing.

Revolt to Hinduism this turn.

I note that Washington already has Monarchy, though I suspect he will be reluctant to trade it.

Also, I'd urge that we do trade for Iron Working, as swords are significantly better against an archer rush than are axes.

Educate me. Does gifting tech and/or just opening borders risk generating you-have-traded-with-our-worst-enemy diplomatic consequences?
