SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

SOS!

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

First we get this (ok, whatever, you hate us anyways)

Then this:

Uh..... we have a problem. I've stopped play for now.

Bloody hell!

What do we do now? We won't be able to take it back for some time. Gandhi's got a catapult or two, and his iron is hooked up already...

Was about to post that a couple of phants and some siege could retake it, but then I remember the rules... this one is gone till fission :(

A bit lost on what to do currently tbh... :goodjob:

@Shyuhe: sorry to have let you in this situation, I didn't expect a barb landing

Can we take cities by culture? We could settle next city north of the fur to try and take Rostov back?

Yeah, that doesn't look good at all  (better to laugh at it I guess ;))

Indeed we are screwed
I think we should accept to loose a position in final rankings and take back the city building two phants and a treb in Moscow after that settler

We could just forget about the rules, take back that city and go on a cossack rampage in a bit. At least our score graph would give the other teams heart attacks for a while. :D

Seriously, though, I'd like to try and finish the game following the rules. If we were ever in contention, we're not anymore, but we could still win it. What would we do next? Found the northern iron city instead? Try to culture pressure Rostov with the next city? Unfortunately, we can't found one between Moscow and Rostov. There are potential sites in the south, but now I'm worried about being swarmed by barbs immediately. If we go northern iron next, while exploring the west continent, we could be safe enough 'till after we have Lib & OU and our other cities grow a bit. Then, see where we are with exploration in the west...

I think the biggest problem is Gandhi being able to expand further now.

We can try to continue the game without breaking the rules. I guess we might as well since we've put in the time so far.

If we guard the coast with a trireme, I think we can settle the south. For now, I'm thinking of shipping Moscow's settler + galley to the west. We can also try founding on the big continent near the river if we get OB with Mao (gift education or something?).

From pre-play plan:

I don't think we need LB yet, as our cities are ok with :) and there are no barbs running around on our continent. As long as we watch for barb incursions from the sea (a trireme is starting to sound like a good idea), we should be safe.

My thinking was, maybe we kinda sorta need a trireme and some LB's sometime in the next 20-30t. What happened was just ridiculous...

Well... What sucks about this is that we can't really hope for a GAge / slavery / university rush after Lib. It was a close call to begin with, but without Rostov ain't gonna happen. Still, another city north of Moscow would be the fastest by far to set up, as it could potentially borrow a food resource for a bit. I think we'll need some fogbusters if we're going for the west continent. The whole thing will take some time to execute.

What do the others think about next city location? Other than that, the previous play plan still stands, I think (except, ofc, for workshopping Rostov).

This is a pain but if we found the next iron city next I think we can still whip the universities if we do it at the end of the golden age instead of the beginning. As for the captured city I think we should leave it for Gandhi. We should probably also insert a trieme into the build queue in St Pete to protect the South, and fire a few scientists in favour of production to make sure it is in position before the barbs can land any more units.

The barbs will also have prevented other teams from settling the South quickly so things may not be as bad as they look.

^ I doubt many other teams have lost a city. ;)

Yeah, I'm for founding the iron city next, I think we should be able to get it to within a university whip in time.

I am OK for iron site next. :)
Good luck Shyuhe (hopefully, there isn't another galley loaded with maces coming in 2 turns for Moscow ;))
