SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

Not much to add... though we do need plenty of scientists still to help with the research of chemistry -> SM ->physics -> bio. I guess we want bio first but the GS will bulb physics then biology so maybe it's worth doing it in this order to lock the free GS. Ofc we would communism before physics/bio, but GS won't help there :(

I agree with BBBP, Taj is a dream...

edit: my personal opinion is that we should go toward communism/bio asap. if we miss the GM, economics is a complete waste. that's a big risk.

O.K I can play later today (researching gunpowder) if there are no more comments.

^ Yeah, I think we should move this along now. Gunpowder is better - it's what we were planning to do all along.

Note: I think Moscow has some time to spare before the other cities complete universities, no? Would you keep building the settler or should we push out a couple of units?

PS: @RRRRas, what does the first B in BBBP stand for? I'd vote for *itchin' :D

BaByBluePants? :) I can't read the word you have typed because of the forum check... though it looks dirty... nothing like that for sure in my mind ;) (do PMs correct every words as well? would be interested by knowing what you typed)

Yes there will be a gap of a couple of turns, I was thinking of putting the spare hammers into the settler so we don't suffer from hammer decay whilst building Oxford. We don't have any urgent need for more units as the trieme will stop the barbs from sending more units over, and the units in the city won't move out until the city can build more units which is not going to happen any time soon.

I've played till the end of our golden age. We are 7 turns away from Oxford and can build a settler in 1 turn. A barb mace appears to be approaching us si it may be wise to build an XBOW in Moscow first.

Looks like Roos got the economics GM?

Seems like it yeah...

I am out of town till sunday night... I can prolly comment then and play monday... if that's too late guys, swap me! :)

Got it... :)

I think we should grow our cities a bit switching to food tiles (Moscow Novgorod, iron city)... Mao is in war mode, I hope he is after Roosevelt :D

Expect a PPP tmr.

Cheers,
Ras

edit: western islands (sugar...) look nice :goodjob:
edit2: couldn't afford civ time yesterday :( I hope I can post a PPP today. sorry folks.

Mao's worst enemy is Gandhi so we should be O.K for now.

In Moscow I think getting Oxford online quickly will be more beneficial than growing the city.

Short plan:

Grow Novgorod, Yakaterinsburg, finish NE in Yaro, Oxford in Moscow.

Moscow: Settler will be done when the hammer decay kicks in, heading west toward sheep/copper island. Other option is to go for the sugar site right away but I would think we can delay that a bit more...

Builds: St Pet could use a grocer or a market more than a courthouse, only 3 gold of maint there. Novgorod court is more justified (and we have room under the caps there).

Thoughts?

What are you planning on doing about the barb mace heading towards the capital.

There is a crossbow due in two turns... I guess he can take it out on the open. Other option is to let the barb suicide on the LB (hill/fortified).

Question: can barbs and barb cities still spawn? No, right?

Are we giving up on silver? We do have an extra LB in Novgorod and now a XB coming. The odds of barb landing wouldn't be much higher than in Moscow (similar distance from Parthian), but I guess the overall odds of it would increase... I think we should settle sheep/copper before sugar, since Gandhi could potentially grab sheep soon.

Tech: Should we consider pushing a GS out of St. Pete ahead of Yaro? I'm not sure which is better, too lazy to calculate right now. We're about 17t from self-teched Chem, then could bulb both PP and SM (or double bulb SM if we can trade for PP).

St Pete: Doesn't have much commerce... How about a theater for border reinforcement?

Where is the eastern galley going? Suicide mission? ;)

Game mechanics question: How do we not have a "close borders" minus with Gandhi? (just out of interest).

Guess not. Unless unknow civs haven't learnt a tech.

Not giving up, but I think western sites are more under risks... and we have a bit room under happy cap it seems. Beside sugar can substitute.

It would allow to avoid wasting St Pet GPPs, so I think that's a good idea (growing St Pet GS first then switching everything on workshops/mines). I think that's a bit more than 17 as we lack some cash. Another plan could be to trade PP (if that's even possible), then bulb chemistry for faster improved shops. We can decide that while accumulating cash after gunpowder.

St Pete: Doesn't have much commerce... How about a theater for border reinforcement?

With our set up (no cottages), coastal cities will be our best commerce cities. And growing cap is always valuable. These cities will benefit from markets. Though I don't vetoe a theater  What do you think team? :mischief: More opinion on St Pet next build?

Where is the eastern galley going? Suicide mission? ;)

Maybe calling it back is the order of the day :)

Game mechanics question: How do we not have a "close borders" minus with Gandhi? (just out of interest).

Good question... Maybe it's overided by war minuses? no clue

Cheers

The silver is on an island so we should be able to hold it provided we build one more trieme. I think Gandhi will probably build copper/sheep next if we don't settle it, but there is no risk of them getting the silver site. If we found copper/sheep we can block India from the islands pre astronomy I therefore think we should build copper sheep, finish Oxford and then found the silver site. We shouldn't need the extra happiness before then. Sugar is a relativly poor site and can easily be postponed.

I agree with trying to get another GP from St Pete, we should still be able to use it as a secondary GP farm.

We can move the warrior to act as military police in our GP farm.

I don't think a theatre will be enough to hold the tile (he has built Versaille there), and that city has very low production, Given that we will be running 100% science for a lot of the time a market is probably roughly equal to a courthouse, so we may as well start what we have finished.

The galley to the East was sent there to scout for other Civ's.
