SGOTM 11 - Team Newbie

why not use inner-turn sling shot?
researched philosophy, and inner turn trade it with math and sling to construction safey.

Urm, we should be at 1500bc surely, not 2150bc?

Anyway, I'll have a good look at the save tonight - I had quick glance last night but I was drunk at the time so... well it looks like we have slowed up the settler factory to lean more heavily on Philosophy?
With regards to the slingshot, I still vote for Construction (trading for Maths on the interturn as archphoenix says) and the push on to Feudalism. With Construction in hand, we should be able to get Laws and Mapping in trade; the AI is quite reliable for researching these. So that leaves us working on Currency or Polytheism. As Poly is already out, albeit unattainable, I would recommend we do Currency.

No, it was a consequence of the trades not working out as we hoped; because I had to add 40g to the deal for iron, I was left short of money for a MA, and needed to keep the Gems being worked for a couple more turns.

Ah but that deal was with a Middle-eastern, so should have been done with 3gpt not 40g ;)

No big deal. It can't be that far off track. I'd rathe like giving AIs gpt when doing an alliance and gettng their money that way. In this case you could have taken the 44 g from India and gave them 3 or 4 gpt from them. They tend to not keep the alliance for thw whole 20 turns so we would have gained something from that. This would only mean that we'd have to stop or renegotiate the alliance after 20 turns, but that's not a big deal.

Hi guys. Had a quick scan while on my hols. Looks like you guys are doing a good job - keep it up! I expect at least three civs to be dead by the time I get back. And none of them should be ours! Later...

No, it was the same turn as the 11gpt with Egypt - all we had.

The trick is to temporarily rearrange the empire. Zimbabwe works both gems and two taxmen for 14gpt. The other towns all gather taxes for 14gpt total. We were paying 2gpt in support and 5gpt to other civs, for a net 21gpt.

Of course, I hadn't considered that. Thanks.

bad sleep these several days.slightly headache.
for tech I have some diff opinions.
I am sure construction is very fond so these must more than one civ researching it, since math appear early.
so unless we need early construction, we need not sling to it.
if in 3-5 turns two blocks sign peace, I still think sling to Monarchy,
and wait about 20 turns for construction appear.
there may be literate the less ai favor, I see china research it before.
and it's possible the currency will appear too, so I favor we go to literate.
notice there are two sci civ we meet, so maybe one get Mono and one get Feud, so they will exchange them a few turn later, and if we have no Rep or Monarchy, we have research Feud ourself!
follow this path, we will get Feud within 30 turns,
ok,
all above is consider by researching Feud is a bit long or
we MUST EXCHANGE FEUD using Monarchy,
do anyone has some idea whether we have enough gpt offerd Feud?

1500 BC (0) - OK.

1475 BC - A Japanese warrior approaches our choke.
Settler done. To get the combo factory on normal track, the gems would need to be mined.
I see what I can do.
Move workers to iron spotting a barb camp. But an Elite Archer is near.

1450 BC - Worker done in city4, start warrior.
Archer disperses barb camp for 25g.

1425 BC - Philo done, trade Philo to China for Maths and 52g. no one has Curr or Constr yet, so I take Constr as free tech.
Go for Curr at 100% (-4gpt)

China has already traded Philo to Russia. Sell HBR to Japan for 42g.
Maybe Arabia will now spread around Poly. Waiting with selling Philo any further as no one has something decent for it.

Found Intombe_city6 between Iron and horse.

1400 BC - MPP triggered, everyone declared on India.
Otto proposes peace but wants Philo+50g. I decline.
Horse connected. Set lux to 10%. Lose a vet Warr attacking a barb warr.
Trade Philo to Japan for a worker. Russia&Otto have Poly (but have Philo).
Arabia still lacks Philo but we can't sign peace yet.

1375 BC - Another warr kills that barb and goes to Elite.

1350 BC - Russia has CoL. Won't trade away Constr yet.

1325 BC - Korea has MM. They still lack Philo but they surely don't want to sell it now.
Zimbabwe has build another Settler, send him S to the forest on the coast S,S of horses.

I stop playing here. We could sign peace with Russia and get Poly and CoL for Constr in that deal and then we could get MM from korea for Construction.
I'd rather like to wait til we research currency and then have some units ready to sign peace with one, giving gpt for tech and then make them declare again.
Currency done in about 25 turns or so.
It seems there is a world war cause I have seen an Otto warr in Korean territory.

The roster appears to be:
Bucephalus
socralynnek -> just played
PaperBeetle -> UP
Taxpayer's Money -> on holiday
Wardancer -> on deck (meaning UP, after next one)
archphoenix

arch: Monarchy slingshot or republic slingshot would only have been possible if CoL or Poly would have appeared earlier. But even then, we would have to pay a lot for peace with s.o. from the Arabian block. Delaying Philo would also have been a huge risk to not get anything.

Now everyone is at war probably, so we might have to research Feud ourselves anyway, especially if we try to get their techs for gpt and trick them into declaring war again.

ok, now I know we will use gpt and parts of Feud to get Feud.
and we should value construction every turn, if some AI reduce it value rapidly, we should sell it.

I'll check on my test game to see how this works... in the sign-up thread it was said that if we got peace with one AI, we got peace with its whole bloc. Does that mean that we put ourselves into a 20-turn deal with each AI in the bloc, and would we lose per-turn rep by attacking one of them, even if it was not the AI to whom we originally gave the peace deal?
My guess is that we would be okay if we give a straight (i.e. no per-turn trades) peace deal, and then do the tech for gpt in a seperate deal. In any case, I'm happy to stay at war, researching Currency, at least until someone gets close to doing Construction.

But I wonder what the Middle-eastern bloc would give us for war with the Orientals eh? ;)

Yojimbo - the illustrated plot synopsis...

1. Our hero Shaka, perfectly portrayed here by Toshiro Mifune, the very picture of cool masculinity.

2. Shaka nonchalantly ignores the Oriental bloc, so they agree to hire him. Becasue he's so cool see?

3. Look out, here comes the Middle-eastern bloc. They don't like the Orientals one bit, no sir.

4. No problem for Shaka though. He's so tough!

5. Awed by Shaka's power, the Middle-eastern bloc agrees to hire him.

8. Return to #2.

You are watching too many bad movies ? .... ;-)

Nice post, Paper Beetle.

I don't how signing peace works, would be strange if we could sign peace with the weakest and getting something while someone big is about to crush us...but please test it.
