SGOTM 12 - Spooks

It is retaken already. It was barely defended. It has one citizen who is resisting. Don't remember, but pretty sure he is French.

You guys think i should try and keep the city ? After ending the resistance, i'll still keep the units outside town though.

I may also be forced to give up the city if too many French units appear on the scene of course.

Just got out of bed, playing will continue after a shower etc.

Yes I would, if we quell the resistance in the next interturn. I guess flip risk should be "moderate"... :mischief:

We'd need to look for a different civ to gift it to - India? Increasing their unit support should not help them anymore, right?

Just got out of bed, playing will continue after a shower etc.
 How long does it take you to take a shower?!?
I had hoped to see some progress during my working time... :D

 We might want to have a webcam running whenever one of us plays his set... :p

"And now we switch to the broadcast from Wacken's living room..."
Of course without sound, I guess not everbody wants to here that stuff you certainly use to get into the right "combat mood" :band: :crazyeye: :p

Have fun - and success!

Turn 0:
Plant forest near Const.
Build mines near Teno.
I choose not to go for the forest cut for Kyoto.

ROP with Persia for 2gpt+7g.
Mono to Scandi for 3gpt+4g.
Mono to Korea for 16g.
Currency to Arabs for 18g.

Upgrade vWarrior.
Move curragh near Paris a tile to have a view on the battlefield.

turn 1:
zzzzzz.

turn 2:
After a long debate, Ragnar and I decide to extend our Alliance against the French without the addition of any further transactions.
Const: MDI-MDI

turn 3:
Orleans is recaptured by the French. This causes us to lose our supply of wool and we have a riot in constantinopel.
Defended by a longbow and a spear, i retake Orleans without losses. I also kill an extra longbow just outside Orleans. 3 Scandi boats are approaching here.
I trade new Silks for Gems from Ragnar.

turn 4:
zzzzz

turn 5:
Rome demands Gems. He gets them.

Const: MDI-MDI.
Teno: Aqua-MDI.
Kyoto: AC.
Kyoto: Lib-MDI.

One worker is joined into Teno to reach 10spt there.
The rest does some more little jobs first.

orleans is now a 1 scientist town, building a warrior for upgrading later.

War on India.
Embassies with Maya and Portugal.
For Engineering, i buy them both against India.

turn 6:
zzzzz

turn 7:
Thebes: Lib-MDI.
Const: MDI-MDI.

An Indian boat heads for Teno, i bombard it with dromons and kill it with the curragh.

turn 8:
Teno: MDI-MDI.
5 workers into Kyoto for 10spt.
2 more workers into Teno.

Drop 14 units near Delhi.

turn 9:
Another Indian boat goes for Teno. Again, i bombard and sink it.
There are no more boats in Delhi and the dromons do a total of 5 damage to 3 pikes.
5/5 AC - 4/4 Pike = 3/5 AC
5/5 AC - 3/4 Pike = 2/4 Pike
5/5 AC - 2/4 Pike = 3/5 AC
4/4 MI - 2/4 Pike = 1/4 MI
4/4 MI - 2/4 Pike = 1/4 MI
So thats 1 AC lost for Delhi.

Scandinavia was using our Orleans area to retreat their wounded soldiers. The evil french came in there to kill those wounded soldiers.
I in turn kill the french longbow.
The MDI assigned to this taskes becomes elite.

Theology sold to Ottomans for 21gpt, 28g, Monarchy, Spices.

If we mine 3 of our cows and forest the one and only cow that is on non-bg grassland, we get to 30spt exactly.
We could now start this job. The advantage would be in building future stuff like science wonders.
The disadvantage is that we can then not easilly make it a 1 turn worker fact again when we get hospitals, but we can irrigate some thing again by that time. I start mining the first cow.
WW requires 20% lux.

turn 10:
I have done some moves, and boarded 2 units for transport to India.

-There are trade options. Korea will pay us gpt, maybe there is more to get.
(I kinda forgot to trade on after selling theo to the ottos last turn  )
-Bambay is surrounded by units. We do now have the chance to kill 2 Indian units in the open with the risk of being counterattacked.
-Do we want the irrigation to stay as long as possible for Osaka or do we minimise used worker turns and mine it immeadiately?
-Teoti needs workers joined in for science soon.
-All 3 of our productive cities will produce an MDI next turn.

future
Please let the curragh be curragh. Do not upgrade it. Killing redlined boats with it is loads of fun :) Wish we'd have more of those.
For micremanagement flexibility in the future, Teno could use a forest, so keep replanting it after cutting.
To optimise production, Kyoto needs 1 swamp cleared. This does not have priority since it is useless without courthouse and even with court, it may not get to 14spt. However, if we still have some workers left after doing the important tasks and worker joins, we should do this.
Workers around Teno have been used to cut and replant forests for 3 turn MDI's. They could do this a few times more.
Don't let Thebes use that hill. The city must keep growing.

Looks good. Having fun with the curragh, I see

Science wonders will be built in Paris, right?

There is one more trade avail. Portugal has a worker.

I suppose we have to go for it. Where is/was the Indian iron, BTW?

Irrigation looks right to me. The duct will be finished b4 the city reaches size 7.

Workers around Teno have been used to cut and replant forests for 3 turn MDI's. They could do this a few times more.
Which tiles have been cut?

So the plan is Bombay, then Paris? I suggest 15 troops and the leader.

With only 1 unit lost, i think we can attack Bombay with only the 2 reenforcements just boarded and the other units there when healed.

It will take about 5 turns to get those units healed and ready to invade bombay. 8 more turns are then needed to sail from bombay to Paris.
With 15 units to attack bombay, if we are lucky, we may have as many as 10 undamaged units to sail to paris and arive in 13 turns.

In 4 turns, the core can get 6 more units ready to arive at Paris in 13 turns. Together with the 4 units already there, we should have a total of 20 units ready to attack Paris then.

Science wonders will be built in Paris, right?
-Oh yes, of course. So do we actually want the 30 spt? or should we just ship the worker to do more important work elsewhere?

There is one more trade avail. Portugal has a worker.
-And possibly gpt deals? CivAssist doesn't tell me what gpt they have available.

-Indian Iron? dunno, looks like they may have traded it.

Which tiles have been cut?
-See picture.

This would be my opinion.

It's annoying isn't it? But I checked. The only other gpt is Gandhi (7) and Joan (1).

Which tiles have been cut?
-See picture.
Thanks.

We should however upgrade our production for the capital incase we get a golden age. If our capital is upgraded to 27spt, a golden age could make it 40.

This requires only 2 mines and only 1 needs to be reversed for being a worker factory again later.

Just play, hmm?
Dunno, it's ok with me i think. Everything seems properly planned for the next 10 turns.

Oh yeah, orleans is building a spear, change it to warriors. For upgrading later.

We should also think about how many more units to make.
The first 5 turns, you produce units for taking Paris. Scandinavia should be conquered by the same units and maybe reenforcements from paris.

After those 5 turns, we can build more units for science farms, or we can build infrastructure.
A few more units won't hurt though, it is good if we can actually defend ourselves a bit. So i guess producing units during your whole turnset is ok.

OK. Sounds good.

That's what I thought. Next tech is astro, right?

Astro is a tech that the AI has some priority on. If Persia brings us guns within 3 turns, i think i would avoid astro and hope for Persia to research it. If however we don't get guns fast, i guess you could just go for astro. Without France and India, i guess there will be no more AI researchers than Persia.

We may by the way want to get Hittites and Mongols into war with eachother. They have not yet been in any wars and therefore still have their units. They are stronger than the rest of that island. If they decide to attack Persia, Persia is toast. We can prevent that by making them fight eachother.
This does however not have great priority, so i would wait and not declare on anyone until we have enough units to keep some home for defence.

OK. It's turn 4. The Indians have been dead for a couple of turns and 15 troops plus one MGL are on their way to France, due in 9. We also have quite a bit of money. The question is: what next?

We have quite some options now.

-India needs a worker force to make some mines.
A library allows use of the mountains, but those are useless without mine.
A marketplace will provide a more happiness than we would lose to whipping it.

-Egypt needs workers to be joined in Thebes.

-Workers on the JapTec Island can all be joined in the cities there.

-Markets in our core towns would allow us to run 100% science. At a cost of 500 shields, this will provide us about 50bpt, more when we have Paris with FP.

-Courthouses in Kyoto and Teno would provide extra production, possibly 14spt. and likely 3bpt in each city. 200shields for 6bpt and 6spt

-Universities in our core cities will be worth a about 10bpt each at a cost of 100 shields. In Kyoto it is not as good as in the other cities.

Science farms are hard to develop, provide 10 bpt on average if we don't take the worst of towns and they increase the corruption in our second core.

I lean towards building infrastructure now. I would do that like this:
Osaka & Teoti: Market (takes like 15 turns)
Kyoto & Teno: Uni - Market (takes like 15 turns together)
This will allow the markets to be completed somewhat simultanious and thus end the need for the lux slider at that point.
