SGOTM 15 - Kakumeika

I think everyone agrees 3N1W of Giza is a good spot to settle. Use the first worker to run up there ignoring roads and chop the forest for fast galley is probably best.

agree, but I'm off to bed also, so I won't be able to look at the save. We may need the corn site too because we could lose the waterway if Genghis' borders pop.

Settling the spot 3N1W of Giza is a good idea. :)
Playing with tunnel vision not so much ... ;)

Settling 3N1W.

Excellent. It seems we won't need to bash Ghenghi to get him into Hindu or obtain a coastal city to build boats now. Holy war will open his borders T136 and we should win the game T156 if we can infect the last two civs before then.

Plastic Ducks have already passed beyond T156.

I am stopping here and loading the save. We need to reconsider our builds.

Please don't judge me too harshly. I now regret using my missionaries so aggressively for scouting on both sides of the world. I could have used the scout trailing into Shaka's lands to scout around Shaka's capitol instead of using the missionary.

I am stopping here and loading the save. We need to reconsider our builds.

Cool. Ya, we have to decide if we still want to build all that military. Hopefully you can still catch some sleep!

I don't think we need to rush turnsets. We have 3 more weeks and 3 more turnsets after Shulec to win I'm almost certain. Just 2 civs left to infect!

Don't sweat the aggressive scouting. The last 2 civs are probably on some crappy islands somewhere. The game keeps exceeding our best case scenarios and we didn't build enough scouts in previous turnsets to give the missionaries a break.

Hopefully the last 2 unmet civs are off the coast of Cyrus and Hatse and two more city gifts will net us T134 win.

Looks like when Liz went to Buddist again, Hamma went to cautious with her. So it looks like mass tech stealing without having to flip to Hindu after is a go. No relations penalty when we re-declare war on her.

Hmmm. If we cancel all resource trades to Ghenghigawa, and cease fire with Liz on T124, then no resolution will come up T125 or T126.

An election vote will come up T127 and we will be the AP resident on T128. Then we could do holy war vote on T137 and win the game in T148. Is this possible?

Alternatively, we have 33 resource turns (I think) built up with Ghenghigawa on the current T121. If we gift him gold, then he should hit +1 resource relations T127 and another +1 from (Liberate) for a 2nd city close to his capital should allow us to open our borders with him naturally as long as we don't declare on Liz again.

I renegotiated the stone trade to him. We settled on it so the trade cannot be broken. I was following your rule of turn 124.

Liz also has compass for us to steal from her.

If I get time while at work today, I will try to update the PPP focusing on wealth, workers, a few settlers, a scout for Hatty's SE lands and getting Sheeptown primed for missionary production.

Question: Should gateway city produce a tririme for upgrade to a caravel or continue with the galley. I like the trireme.

Ok, looks like T136 open borders with Ghenghigawa then. I don't think the team wants to give up settling that corn for a possible gift to an overseas AI for a gamble to maybe (Liberate) another city to Ghenghigawa. Who knows where his capital is.

Woo Compass AND Machinery, very nice. If we steal them both about T126, then hopefully we get a Great Scientist to bulb optics and can get some caravels moving in the world. We would just have to avoid Code of Laws to bulb I think.

Maybe we should build a trireme for upgrading in our new city. We could upgrade it with our Great General and give it extra movement points or maybe +1 vision and a free upgrade.

I think galley first. We need to sail out as fast a possible and have the option to carry a settler. If we had a worker there it would have been only 4 turns to build a galley :(.

@shulec; Great work! Exciting turnset! I don't think you did anything to apologize for with the missionaries. Even if there was one with our settler, we would not want to use it yet and give the city to Genghis. It seems likely that he's the last one on our landmass, so we might not need OB with him. Sailing out to sea is the #1 priority.

Galley can't sail in ocean tiles. But it can carry a settler hrmm. Don't know. All the religions in Hatty's lands indicate there is a trade route connection to a nearby religious juggernaught. Is it through Hatty's waters or Ghenghis'?

Once we meet one AI it should give us contact with the other team member. It is probably a religion spammer like Isabella paired with a gawa so we can't get easy borders, techs, or maps since the team picks the worse AI to break ties on that kind of thing.

Yes, nice reconnaissance, shulec.

I'm not sure whether we'll be able to reach anything with a Galley ... and chances are quite good that we won't need to ship Settlers to other landmasses.

The AI team does not consist of Tokus so they should be willing to open borders @ CAUTIOUS -- we only need to ship our Missionaries on Caravels to them for direct Hindu spread or to gift them away in case they run Theocracy.
Or we are even able to gift them the Corn-city north of Alexandria, this would require that their lands are also connected to our landmass but unreachable due to peaks and ice.

So I think Trireme (->Caravel) is better.

BTW Shaka doesn't have a city on an island, it's the same culture effect for Ulundi as for Babylon's culture, because the wall of peaks is part of our continent.

I didn't know we were going to broker peace between Shaka- Toku.
There must have been a reason (oh yea, to prevent ghosttown from changing hands), so I guess peace is ok. However, this means we now have no way to get Toku to close borders with Hats. Hats is pleased with Liz. Can't they make peace next turn? or the turn after?

We are the only Cautious civ for her, and now we are in her land. We could bribe her to close borders with Toku. Thoughts?

There was thought that holy war would drag her back into war with Liz. Holy War overrides peace treaties doesn't it?

They hopefully still refuse to talk to each other after we bribed Hatse to stop trading with Liz plus Hatse DoW'd Liz -> without war success for the war target Tokus refuse to talk for 20 turns after they declare.

Peace Treaties prevent the Holy War resolution from coming up!

Updated my mapping.

The culture 3NW of Shaka's capital indicates that the land continues NE of where we know Genghis's culture lies. So probably Genghis or a pair is there. Hatse has a city we have not found yet, which is a bit weird.

The density of religious spread in the lands of Shaka and Hatse suggest the AI pair is north. I don't think there's any conclusion to be drawn from the density of different religion spread. Islam can be found with Shaka and Hatse. Confu only Shaka. Christianity only Hatse.

I think a trireme is best for the new city near Giza. I don't see any reason to presume that a settler is needed or will be useful, or that we'll have Genghis OB soon enough. Presumably worker en route to chop and improve. We want mines if/when we capture tiles. Setting up to steal Mach+Compass and teching Optics looks like our top priority to me. Argo needs to head home to be upgraded ASAP. Does anybody think we need more army? If so, why?

2 missionaries should be planning to get on board the trireme->caravel out of the next city, I think. The last should stay within range of getting on a caravel heading north past Babylon?
