SGOTM 16 - Maintenance Thread

oops, shoulda PMd a mod with this post, not put it here, and someone else told me what i needed to know anyways.

Just a random thought.....

As I am now starved of being able to follow all the teams, I have spent an inordinate amount of time staring at graphs.

Another interesting graph could be the cumulative number of thread posts when each save was submitted. Obviously it gives absolutely no clue as to what the team is doing, just showing when periods of intense discussion occur.

I was thinking of a good benchmark representation and that would be:
- cumulated beakers used aquired / - cumulated hammer spent / -total food worked.

Would be exciting to have that as well :P

I don't think graphs should be used to give away that sort of details. Number of posts is harmless but food and hammer graphs?? I think those should be revealed once the game is concluded.

The graphs will stay as they always have for the duration of the game. If you want to discuss changes to the graphs for SGOTM17, it would be better to start a new thread and leave this thread for SGOTM16 matters.

I know, this thread isn't getting much use, but from the mapmaker standpoint, that's a GOOD thing. :p

I could totally see why you would want the posts metric....easy 1st place for PR ;-)

Naming no names, there are a few instances where team members other than the first player opened the starting save and moved a unit.

I am giving the benefit of the doubt that perhaps this was carelessness, and I'm not penalising teams at this stage. However, if I see any further events of this kind, I shall have to take action.

Please be warned!

I hope you told them personally as well. I think the rules are clear enough that if they realize that they have done it they would not have done it.

Alanh revealed exactly as much information as he intended. End of discussion.

Can I have a rule confirmation regarding this Decathlon requirement:

  • At least one AI opponent has been eliminated (conquered) by your team.

I assume this means that our team MUST deal the killing blow, as in take the last city of the AI, thus conquering them.

If we take 9/10 cities, but someone else takes the last, I assume this does not satisfy the requirement.

Correct. That is how I will interpret the results. I know all teams are skilled enough to deal the coup-de-grace on at least one AI.

Please note: Five teams still need to submit a save at or beyond turn 100 (375 BC) by November 21 in order to meet their 2 month deadline for one of the Decathlon objectives.

[PS] You do NOT have to upload a save exactly at turn #100. Any turn greater than or equal to 100 will do.

Hi, I'm dropping out of Phoenix Rising. Thanks to AlanH and kcd swede for organizing and hosting the game and good luck to the team :)

Sorry to hear that, UnforcedError. I do hope you will be able to join in future SGOTMs.

In other news, I have added a check to the download system to attempt to protect against accidental download of the wrong save from the Progress page. If this change has any unexpected consequences, and anyone has problems downloading the *correct* save, please contact me.

Alan, please explain this in a bit more detail. Not sure if it is what I think it is. Sounds great though. (My assumption is it does a check against a table of teams/player ids)

It does what it says on the tin. A few players have inadvertently clicked the wrong link in the past. I'm just trying to head these miss-clicks off at the pass.

Since I have to guess who you are when you download a save, I *could* guess wrong. Hence the possibility of unintended side effects. Equally, I might not pick up an error, so please don't assume you are safe to click any old link.

Four days left to the 100-turn deadline. Two teams have not yet met this decathlon requirement.

All the teams have now made it to turn 100, 375 BC or beyond.

Well done. One down, nine to go :)
