SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Hey all. Sorry for being so slow about all this. Studying getting in the way of what's important, ya know how it goes. I'm working through Neil's micro and it looks pretty good. I'm going to do some practice at this myself, make some of my own notes, etc. etc. I'll test some stuff out and see what's going on.

1) Triremes: I don't think this is quite necessary yet. We're not going a super far distance so it should be possible to play hide and seek and drop stuff off if this becomes an issue.

2) WFYABTA: This does not hold if an AI is friendly. So getting Brennus to friendly might save the day a little bit.

Thank god he is a religious fanatic then  Friendly should be dead easy then :)

Micro for turns 82 - 86 has been added to the google doc. I deviate from Neil a little in the worker turns. I'm hesitant to continue with the micro for a few reasons.

1) I have to get back to work... :mischief:

2) We might learn something important in the next 4 turns.

How does everyone feel about this? I feel a little bad breaking the rules, so feel free to veto and make me continue the micro according to the PPP for the next 10 tuns. But I want to give you something to work with. :)

Also, finishing writing is a natural minor stopping point. This micro gets us to the end of turn 86. I'll hit end turn and then go into turn 87, and post some pictures and whatnot and we'll know, hopefully

1) Where Ramesses is.
2) Exactly how far away Brennus is and what the optimal way to road to him is.
3) Where we want to settle on the Sheep Island.
4) Who we want to open borders with on the next turn.

How do people feel?

Edit: Apologies also for not using the standard micro form on the googledoc. I forgot to ask Chris for permission so went ahead and made one in excel and then just copied that into the googledoc

Point 1: I think his position is almost irrelevant for this turnset.

I shall point you to this screenshot regarding point number 2. :) This is from the actual game.

Point 3: You should send the workboat to scout, I agree. That should be a stop point :)

Point 4: OB with Brennus of course, keep Ramesses out of it unless he gets Buddhism as well and this becomes a Buddhist love fest.

Agree on all of those, except your response to point 1. I think it will either be faster to road down the coast or road into the mainland depending on where Brennus is improving and building his own roads. I suppose we will probably road through the mountain range. But it's also possible Brennus settles a new city himself.

I'll play the first four turns in about 9 hours unless I get a red light.

Goodness... it would be better to play while you have a red light than while your car is actually moving. Better still, park the car and don't play in traffic. :joke:

 Bad joke!

Been reading ALL of the posts here (AND other teams)?

Been reading here, at the Ducks, and at the Kakumeika threads... skimming through the rest.

Congrats on the GLH+Oracle.btw.:)

I strongly suspect the road will need to connect Lyon/Clams to the river in the jungle, and that will be sufficient for trade routes to Brennus if we clear the fog between us and him.

We can use the woods 2 warrior to check if that will work. :)

Thanks, I hope that is a compliment :p (or maybe we suck so badly that you enjoy laughing at us  )

Presumably that's a compliment.

Of course.:)

You guys have a unique opening, very exciting!

Spoiler :
Of course, the fact that your opening is unique is one way in which you are exactly like everyone else.;)

Just a quick question Ben: From the moment the workers are 1S of Lyon, it will take us 7 turns at the minimum to road to him. So what turn do you plan to start roading? :)
Other than that, green light.

On turn 87, we'll have two workers sitting on the hill 1SW of Clams looking for work. I was going to have them build a road on that hill on turn 87. But we'll wait and see what we discover.

Short answer to your question: turn 87. And if it turns out we can road to the river to get trade routes with Brennus it'll take just 5 turns.

I'll look to play tonight.
