SGOTM 19 - Also Sprach Sid

If you prefer the opening, go ahead and post your PPP. We'd better to have a clear roster now so that we could have a smooth going. 3 month deadline is really quite tight.
Nope that's alright, take the first go and I'll follow if that's ok with everyone.

If so, who'd like to go 3rd?

All right.

PPP for the 1st 5 turns.

Tech -- Banking beakers for 5 turns

T0 -- Adopt slavery. Worker to Pig, Settler to 2S, Warrior heads for east since that's the most possible direction to find our neighbor, Scout will scout north a bit and then follow the warrior since we need it to secure the way for stolen worker to go home.

T1 -- Found capital in place (granary), worker pasture Pig
... nothing else until turn 5

What tile(s) do you plan to work at size 1?

If the Pig is pastured on T5, the Forest will be chopped on T9, enabling a whip on T10. Working the improved Pig from T5–10 = +30F before the Granary is active, or 8/22F (assuming the instant whip, with no food before that).

EDIT: @ size 2 the surplus will also increase, to +7F (via the FPs or Corn).

The city governor is ON by default, so it will pick a 3F tile and will work on improved pig automatically.

I did not mention the micro after. The 2nd citizen will work on the silk tile before whipping. That will be mentioned in the next session.

Food

T2: 3F
T3: 6
T4: 9
T5: 15
T6: 21/22
T7: 5/24
T8: 10/24
T9: 15/24
T10: 20/24 (whip)
T11: 4/24

Hammers

T2: 1H
T3: 2
T4: 3
T5: 4
T6: 5
T7: 6
T8: 9
T9: 32/60
T10: 65/60 (whip)
T11: 6H

I think? Plus some commerce.

Seems ok to me anyway. :) Good luck.

Did you work on 2F1H tile in the 1st 3 turns before Pig is improved. I ran a test on that to T18, the result is quite big, really surprised me. Compared with 3F tile, it's 1 turn slow of settler, 3F and 8H less.

I haven't tested at all. I'm away from my Civ computer for the next few hours.

One possibility I'm considering is whether it would be best to maximize food at size 2 (to 23/24F) in time for the Granary whip, to ensure the quickest growth to size 4:

Food

T1: work Plains Hill
T2: 0F (switch to Pig)
T3: 3
T4: 6
T5: 12
T6: 18
T7: 24/22 = 2/24 (work Pigs; FP)
T8: 9
T9: 16
T10: 23/24 (whip)
T11: 7/24F

Hammers

T2: 4H
T3: 5
T4: 6
T5: 7
T6: 8
T7: 9
T8: 10
T9: 31/60
T10: 62/60 (whip)
T11: 3H

^^^ We still grow on T6–7, but work the Floodplains instead of the Spices. My math/timing might be off.

I have tried 3F1C tile instead of the silk tile last night, no good.

Edit: All my tests now improve copper before Corn, so we we also need to work on the improved copper at size 2 and could grow to size 3 immediately.

No good how? Delayed Settler?

I'm going home now, and will test. The above would lead to...

T11: put OF into Settler, and work a Spices to bring hammers to 12/100 (edit: wrong, n/m)
T12: 7F (Corn = 3/5)
T13: 14 (Corn = 4/5)
T14: 21 (Corn = 5/5)
T15: 18/26
T16: 15/28 ----> 15/24F whip

T17: Settler

I think? Not sure how that compares, or even if my numbers add up.

3 quick tests to T17:

Corn 1

Size 3, 14/26F, 13H in Warrior
Produce 1 Settler (on T16)

Beaker: 195

Copper 1

Size 2, 17/24F, 8H in Warrior with 8H OF
Produce 1 Settler, 1 Warrior

Beaker: 200

Corn 2

Size 2, 22/24F, with 2H OF
Produced 1 Settler, 1 Warrior

Beaker: 195

My runs seemed to result in more food and fewer hammers/beakers compared to yours Duckweed:

Copper 1 vs DW

+4F
–3H
–3B

Corn 2 vs. DW

+9F
–17H
–8B

Corn 1 vs. DW

+13F
–21H
–8B

(N.b. Settler = 1 turn sooner; size 3 on T17)

Good job, your test on Corn 1st looks better than I have expected.

My rationale of not testing improving Corn 1st.

1. I'd like to have an axe ready as soon as possible to suppress neighbor.
2. I'm afraid that soon our happy cap won't be enough to support whipping.

Your test on the copper is probably better than mine if we consider 1F=2H, we might be able to get the next worker 1 turn faster.

Calling vote! Mainly Corn or Copper 1st.

My runs start off the same, so we could postpone the Copper/Corn decision for a while if you guys are happy with one of the two.

City micro:

Spoiler :
T0: move/revolt etc.
T1: settle. Work Plains Forest. Improve Pigs (1/4)
T2: 1F 3H. Work Pigs. Pigs (2/4).
T3: 4F 4H. Pigs (3/4).
T4: 7F 5H. Pigs (4/4).
T5: 13F 6H. Worker moves 2N.
T6: 19F 7H. Chop (1/3).
T7: 25/22F ----> 3/24F 8H. Build Settler. Work Pigs and Forest Plains Hill (= 10H). Chop (2/3).
T8: 3/24F. Worker completes chop. Return to Granary. Work Pigs and Copper.
T9: 9/24F, 30/60H. Whip Granary. WORKER MICRO DEVIATES HERE.
T10: 15/22F. OF into Warrior.
T11: 21/22F.

... and so on.

I can't test and the city micro is a little bit beyond me.
Go when you feel like it Duckweed

As I said, I'm not entirely sure that 4F is better than 3H+3B, one factor needs to be considered is that if I'd like prioritize hammers for a couple Axes and beakers for potential Alpha beeline. One important benefit of Alpha is that we could bribe someone to help the war so we could take an extra capital simply with Axes.

I think everyone should do a test game with the settings. I do not think we need any help taking a capital. Even more true if we harass and keep them from getting copper.

I think our priority should be to expand fast to 6 cities.

I like SIP but team seems to have decided on 2S. I like improving copper.

^You are welcome to run tests, post you results and we could do the comparison easily.

One thing to be kept in mind is the cost, sure we could take our neighbor by our own, however, think about when and how many Axes are needed to take a capital with at least 5+ archers.

I plan to finish my set this weekend as I have more time to update the test game without delay, so please hurry up for your tests and votes.:)
