How hard are we pushing for this new, more-out-of-the-way island hop? Did we not anticipate spotting an island with our chariot?

No, but we probably should have. A galley + 2:move: land mover seem to be the ideal scouting team. Throw a missionary on board too and that would be the Dream Team (TM).

So if we are going to go to the effort of sending a boat to the SE, I'd much prefer a galley over a wb.
 
The galley will clear a water path even if the scout doesn't but I feel ya.

Out of curiosity, would the fogged tile at scout-3E1S prevent a trade route? Or does the trade route algorithm traverse past that tile Diagon Ally?
Diag, so that's fine. But it' seems more likely Peter is not up north in the Ice.
To get connected to his capital, the galley may have a long trip or run into impassable ice.
So, keep the scout revealing the south shore.

Here's a fast way to explore SB's new islands. Get Paper. Trade maps.

Of all the options (other that skipping boats) maybe Canal's 3rd seafood is not needed yet. +9 food is plenty to work with.

If this is what we end up doing, then I'd like our current wb near Clam City to stay there and net the clams and build a galley (after we whip the worker into the Mids) in Canal rather than starting on a library. The galley wouldn't start until the next turnset, BTW.
 
In any event, permission to play on until the start of T85 per the current PPP, good sirs. I think Kait and WT are on board. LC is contemplating his veto. MG has not poked his head in yet.

If I don't start soon, we can continue the discussion and I can play tomorrow. Either way is fine with me.

Also, the boat decision (EDIT: If we go with the option of building it in Canal) would happen after my turnset so maybe LC can hang onto his veto until T85.
 
We've already put 10H into the worker. But in any event, is this the agreed plan to whip a wb next turn? Sounds like WT and LC are on board (pun intended).

Send the Clam City workboat we already have to explore the south please.

That fogged tile 3E1S of scout will not block a trade route.
Trade routes go along coast diagonally just fine.
 
We can meet any meet-able AI with our chariot spotting their scout boats.
Allowing tech trade.
We can open resource trades & trade routes with maps trade.
I don't see any reason to sail down there.
I'm warming up my veto.
 
Options:

1. Use Clam City wb to explore

2. Turn galley with warrior around (it's near cows) and explore; Whales or Silver can build a new one to spread the love to Pete.

3. Build a galley in Canal and explore.

4. Others?

I'm fine with any option but #1 is the least disruptive. Clam City can crank out a wb pretty quickly and the wb is several turns ahead of the existing galley.

This put me firmly in WT's camp. No need to panic. We're not far from Paper.

I think our chariot should scout the northern shore (if we even care to do that???) and then go back and hang out on the peninsula, yes?

If I understand map trades, every tile we reveal is one we don't have to pay for. So we should be able to get any mystery islands + gold for giving him our knowledge which includes Peter's.
But it can't hurt to minimize the # of tiles SB knows that we don't.
